This time, it finally looks like the end for Robert Mugabe. Zimbabwe's 93-year old president has not spoken since the military moved in overnight and seized key points of the capital Harare. They insist it's not a coup - but it sure looks like one. Some might even call it a palace coup, since it's supporters of newly ousted vice-president Emmerson Mnangagwa versus those close to 52-year-old First Lady Grace Mugabe. What's next for a country that was once the breadbasket of southern Africa?

How can a french channel be confused as to whether its a coup or not. First of all Coup d'état is a french word. Secondly coups are the national sport in the francophone (former french colonies). Its a Coup

So here is the take on this: Firstly when Mugabe needed to eradicate political opponents who supported him ? The very same military who is supposed to uphold the constitution according to this general is also the very same people who killed hundreds if not thousands who apposed Mugabe. Zimbabwe (Robert Mugabe) was a military controlled government pretending to be a democratic country and in their constitutional view if they don t like the successor its their duty to uphold it. When Mugabe killed black Zimbabweans who opposed his rule they helped and supported it (Hypocrisy as best) This take over stems from the fact that the deputy president was fired by Bob a person the military intended to succeed Mugabe is the only reason for this action. Zimbabweans are nowhere as important to them than the so called constitution - they would have protected all Zimbabweans in the time many were killed who went against Robert Mugabe. This is obvious, Zimbabwe will never be able to have a free, fair election process if there is a military who decide who the successor must be. It may look like and election, simply because the international community wants it, behind the scene its actually an appointed person heading the country appointed by the Military. Zimbabwe obviously understands the democratic principal of and elected person by the people for the people very different to the rest of the world. A military is A political and does not remove a head of state - the voter has to do that in an open, free and fair election. The African Union is also pro Mugabe - thus the reason they came out saying they will not or never accept a power shift done by a military takeover. Both ways its a F-up and people in Zimbabwe will continue to be screwed by their government. Show less REPLY

Robert Mugabe did not fall, the Africans were not applying the lessons he was was trying to tell them. Like Nelson Mandela said the enemies played on the divisions among them. Robert Mugabe is a hero.He fought very well and rodesiah,is no longer. He gaved the African Continent "Zimbabwe". That's what BBC MUST recognize.

NOT REALLY MY DEAR, IN THIS PART OF THE WORLD COUPS ARE UNHEARD OF, I MEAN THE SOUTHERN PART OF AFRICA, SO SADC AGREED NOT TO SUPPORT ANY FORM OF MILITARY TAKEOVER. SO ITS THE SAFEST ROUTE TO TAKE AS IT STANDS AS THEY ARE INSISTING ON REISTATEMENT OF THE FIRED VICE PRES AS THE INTERIM UNTIL ELECTIONS. AND AS ZIMBAS WE ARE IN SUPPORT OF IT SO THAT THEY ARE HELD EARLY NEXT YEAR!. GOT IT?

Little known secret...Grace Mugabe was born in South Africa. To the old guard-Zimbabwean Freedom fighters in Rhodesia, she is South African, even though her parents were Rhodesian. Just ask any foreign born South African that comes back home to RSA to try to reclaim their heritage. They are not acceptable leaders. Because their patriotism is questionable. Grace becoming president of Zimbabwe would be an insult to Zimbabwean pride. Her reputation doesn't help either. The military are not against Robert Mugabe, just Grace becoming president. That's my 2 cents.

Comments and opinion: This situation, is what one can called the peaceful siding to, rescue and free the people of Zimbabwe from what evidently proved beyond reasonable doubt as individual dictatorship for life. No matter we salute the the man historical role as revolutionary VA yet he wants alone for there many more who also deserves his similar chance too, all that would requires the hero to give up his greed either way leave alone the life cycle end that's no doubt imminent. As far as AU the question they should answer is: Weather or not, they do support and stands with the methodology of such presidency for life kind of Mogube leadership that help, if I am not mistaken encourage a number of African leaders including the most wanted former Sudan and North Sudan today's president, not to give up his public chair postiion as well? Nevertheless If AU , can yet denied interference for salvation of such ZImbabwe military to stand for people rights, after long period of one man presidency domination, such as President Mogube. Than I would say AU I think your niether for people rights or equality and justice around Africa, in this manner, but rather serving or executing other elements agendas, that may be in background, which I recommend you get out off immediately, to follow African lead such as, pursued the social equality and justice principles, Not precisely democracy the way perhaps you don't see. by the way democracy has its failure dark sides too, that doesn't cope with current Africans situation, as such democracy often times stands, divided and classified people as master, lawer and poor classes, where majority rule and dominates minority throughout, including silencing people either way, through rich elements among. them mainly who are often capable , to play money matter supriorty game, and beyond to an extent of geting away with nearly everything not to mention, including wrong doing time and time nevertheless murder, should involved. If shock about this particular point, please let me know your point of view? about a rich man ever sentence to death under democracy class system country. As African to start with, I and more out there strongly believe, our political ideology and system statuses, required African nations to simply be non-alliance kind of system methodology. Not till we reach the level of stability peace and materialism satisfactory, than thereupon, would be the time to accept and introduced, what others want us to do or follow their life style or democracy! that's driving us to rejected the nature relationship even, under the excuse of freedom even, think about? Least but not last I strongly urged France 24 live tv/debate to forward the massage to African Union of today, that we didn't heard, it condomed or criticized Egypt military intervention in the past, when it find itself forced to rescued its own people from bloodshed ! And thanks fo the opportunity ur0 cooperation.

Yes, Mugabe was anti imperialist and fought for land redistribution. That is why he and his people were punished by the west through sanctions. The one Tony Blair! Mugabe said, Keep your Europe and leave Africa for the Africans.

@@eiffeltower7503 from my opinion anybody can stay anywhere legally without infringing the laws of the owner of the land. If not he will face the legal consequences. This principle is applied anywhere on the planet. When you said him and his people were punished is bogus! because you westerners are the true anti imperialists because what you went to exploit in their mother land cannot be done in your own motherland, let's be truthful here and forget racial discrimination. If I were to be in his position then, I'll not stop stranger not to come for their greener pastures but it will be in alliance with the laws accepted by the people.

Mugabe needs to be taken to a care home for his safety since he can't look after himself and his brain is no longer functioning, therefore, he will be better off with a carer to look after him. There's only one way out to remove him from power is by giving him one one-way ticket to leave within 12-24 hours.
