Lando Norris has really impressed me so far in the 2021 F1 season and really demonstrated some world championship potential. This inspired me to think about whether or not McLaren would be title contenders in the following years and look at a brief history of the team! Enjoy!

Lando's already nearly earned more points in this season than Alonso did in all 4 of those McLaren seasons combined, if it wasn't obvious enough how awful those cars were.
2013 was the beginning of an era that saw McLaren build garbage chassis and blame it on their engine supplier. With Mercedes they could blame it on a lack of synergy that would persist because the engine would continuously be altered to the works team's wishes and with Honda they could blame it on the lack of power. Using Renault engines was a much needed wakeup call that was finally answered with new team leaders and their 2019 chassis.
Could have also covered the leadership changes, impact of Zak Brown on the team culture and the organisation. There were so many things apart from the drivers changing that is contributing to rise of McLaren

He’s not overhated, just like every good driver they get unnecessary hate. He’s definitely championship worthy in a good car and I can’t wait for him, Max, Charles and George to battle it out in the future

McLaren's speed during qualifying at Monaco and Singapore in 2017 showed that the chassis was good but the engine was a step back compared to the year before (damn those penalties at Monaco and that crash at the start at Singapore). As for 2018, they made the engine switch way too late to be competitive, and Fernando should have understood that

The second McLaren stopped saying "we have the best chassis the engine is the issue" they started getting their form back. I don't know why, I don't know how. But they went full Ferrari for a while and refused to aknowledge their actual issues. The second they changed their mentality they started improving again

@@Qwiks Since 2012 actually. 2011 there were two teams called Lotus. The one that would be later known as Caterham was called Team Lotus and the other one was called Lotus Renault F1 Team

@@Qwiks Yeah. The Lotus Renault later on won a legal battle against Team Lotus, which forced them to change their name to Caterham from 2012 season onwards.

Honestly, the McLaren-Honda reboot failure was as much poor aerodynamics on McLaren's part as much as it was poor power on Honda's part. Otherwise, the engine change should have seen them at or near the front, but they weren't-at least not at first, but this is after a complete overhaul of the team, especially in design and aero.

and mclaren had an abysmal start to the 2023 season for the first 8 races with the worst car until mclaren brought a big upgrade package in austria that helped them fight for consistent podiums and top 5's. they are now the second fastest car after red bull and faster than mercedes and ferrari
