Yea I was saying this last week. I honestly thought Walker had already took the serum given he was starting to lose it. They went against Erskine’s vision. Captain America isn’t about being a good soldier. It’s about being a good man. That’s not saying Walker is completely bad. I like that he’s a morally grey character with good intentions but he seems to have an ego/temper issue that’s only gonna grow from here on. I can’t wait til he becomes USAgent, & possibly even joins the Thunderbolts.

To be honest realistically that shield probably would kill every person that gets hit with or at least seriously injured marvel just doesn’t make that happen as that wouldn’t be really appropriate for the rating and their kid friendly model. To be honest this shows more blood than a lot of stuff they do so it’s surprising.

Walker was a good person overall. He was just cocky, self-important, and talked down to people in a way that made him so annoying. But I see how he was struggling to fill a role that was given to him. He wasn't a bad guy. I just think personality-wise he was ill suited to the job.

This episode proves Erksine's point about why Steve was the perfect choice to be Captain America. Steve was "Not a perfect soldier, but a good man." The U.S. Government made the mistake of prioritizing the perfect soldier to be Cap, while ignoring if he was a good man or not. It's clear that Walker has some PTSD, is very high strung and anxious, and quick to anger. He's not the worst, but he is FAR from the "good man" label worthy of Captain America.

I dont blame him for taking the serum since dude has been struggling...BUT not only is the symbol of Captain America completely tarnished...he killed the wrong guy! That’s why Cap chose Sam. He’s a good man. Walker might be the “perfect solider” but now this proves he’s not a good man. He’s supposed to be Captain America. Not THE PUNISHER.

"This is why you were chosen. Because a strong man, who has known power all his life, may lose respect for that power. But a weak man knows the value of strength, and knows compassion." Dr Erskine to Steve. Walker has known power all his life, and the serum amplified his bad traits; impatience, arrogance, a need for external respect and validation, and for this I DO blame him. His murder of the rebel was perhaps understandable on some level, but his stress was brought on by his ego and his inability to handle having his ass handed to him. And his ass was handed to him because of his arrogant assumptions about everyone around him, and his expectation of respect while barely willing to give it. This was especially on display with the Dora Milaje.

Appreciate your nuanced take on John Walker. He may be arrogant and not noble like Steve Rogers, but he's trying to do a job he was tasked to do, yet getting his ass kicked every step of the way. This show is about nuances - the world is not in black and white, people are not just outright good or bad, be it Zemo, John Walker or Karli. In a way, the show is jerking us around every episode, making us swing between sympathy and contempt for these characters. The Bucky and Ayo scenes were my favourite. The heartbreaking flashback establishes their relationship, so it explains why Ayo feels betrayed and when she disarms Bucky later, she calls him James instead of White Wolf because she feels he doesn't deserve his Wakanda moniker any more.

The name of the episode is ‘The world is watching’. That’s what Nakia said to T’challa when he was about to kill Klaw in front of a crowd. Steve was also in a similar position when he showed restrain against Tony during Civil War. Fake Cap’s actions shows is how he compares to other heroes when faced with the same challenges. @Romanogers4ever I will give credit to Wyatt Russel for his brilliant performance. He humanized John Walker and showed his unraveling from him feeling inadequate. That being said, he could have all the good intentions but his actions never contribute to anything, they make things worse. He went in thinking the shield and uniform will help him sail through and get that respect automatically and that's not the case. He was also very cocky with the Dora Milaje and it was really nice to see them put him in his place. He has a complex issue and isn't a good fit for the mantle. After all he has more experience doing that without having any. Instead John wants to have it done his way while treating them as sidekicks. He lacks the humility that Steve had. I get the point you guys made about Walker and the struggles he faced and how he has all right to snap for being treated so badly by Bucky and Sam as well as the weight of being Captain America. But the fact that he straight up murdered the guy when he wasn't the one that killed Battlestar brings to mind what the Doctor that invented the original serum said to Steve in the first Captain America movie. He said that 'the serum amplifies who you already are, Good becomes great and bad becomes worse.' And the fact that Walker straight up murdered an innocent guy (yes he was a part of the flag smashers but Karli is the only one that seems bent on killing people. Remember, even the other guy was shocked by what Karli did when she blew up the building.) right after he took the serum just cements the fact to me he was never good to begin with. I mean when Steve saw Bucky fall from the train as his best friend he thought Bucky was dead, it was when he came back that he found out Bucky was still alive and he stuck to his mission and sacrificed himself to save the world. Look at what Walker did when his best friend died...killed somebody that had nothing to do with it out of anger and vengeance cause Karli was the one about to stab Cap then Lemar Jumped in and she punched him and then she ran when she saw what she did but Cap just went after the guy and he even yelled "where is she?" when he was chasing the guy proving he knew it was Karli that killed Lemar but he didn't care. He coulda just knocked him out or used him to get to Karli instead he desecrated all that the shield stood for. I just can't like Walker. (PROPS TO WYATT RUSSELL THOUGH. HIS PORTRAYAL OF WALKER IS EPIC)

Really good comment. I dislike how, like Loki, people are just going to defend the heinous stuff Walker is doing. Or be hypocritical by criticising Karli but not him when they're comitting the same crime (both have a traumatic past, both use the death of loved ones to kill people. Only difference is she's a kid and he's an adult, which is why Sam and Bucky are less forgiving on him).

@@kammy6340 Well said! (both of your comments) I can't rock with Walker and have always felt a weird 'shady cop' vibe from him. From episode 2 onward the signs were there obviously, the serum (and the death of his friend) just eliminated those filters. Even aware that people were watching he still carried on with a public execution. Steve, with all the bullying he went through and feeling inferior, never went on a rage to murder after being injected. And nice callback to Black Panther, that was a big part of T'Challa's character development and connects to what he told Zemo in Civil War that he will not allow hatred to cloud his heart because he's seen what it does to people. Also goes back to what his father and Nakia (Nakia was always right) spoke to him about being a good man versus being a good king. Walker is a good soldier - just the way the government wants him to be (and he's damn impressive with throwing the shield), but Steve was a good man and his heart and moral compass is what got him the respect he got, not a uniform or achievements/badges or a title of authority - the love & respect was natural with Steve (plus Thor's hammer likes him!!). Sam-although he's been doubting himself-has shown each episode through interactions with others (the scene with he and Karli talking was nice) why Steve chose him; he just has to realize this himself. This show gets better with all their main characters each episode!

The reason Steve was good as Cap because he was pure from not being in combat directly and the serum built on the purity. Walker was a soldier and saw brutal things in Afghanistan, so the serum is working differently, he isn’t as pure, doesn’t make him bad though. And he has an enormous pressure on his back to fill in the shoes that Cap left which is impossible to fill. Whatever he does he will never be enough and that is a pretty depressing situation. No one tries to see things from HIS perspective. A human's perspective. But everyone keeps mumbling about "What Captain America's supposed to be."

Another super entertaining reaction. I lost count of the number of times John Walker messed up and made a bad situation worse. It had nothing to do with people crapping on him. Lamar told him in the first episode that he can’t punch his way out of every situation. He is woefully under qualified for the job...not because of his physical attributes (or lack there of)...but due to his lack of compassion , poor strategist, inability to think under pressure, inferiority complex , anger issues, PTSD, and he looks mad weird with his mask on. 😂 Worst Captain America ever. He’s about to get fired, but they gotta fire the person that picked him too. Fire the GM, the head coach and cut the player. Time to rebuild 😂

Here is the thing. I have 0 sympathy for John as his ego is what lead him to take the serum. He's a good soldier, but not a good Captain America. Steve wouldnt kill out of vengeance, he'd only kill if necessary. The serum amplifies what is already there. What we see is what he always wanted to do if he had the ability. If he wanted to do the right thing he should have just given the shield to Sam or Bucky. Sam held his own without the serum where John couldn't.

He took the serum because he couldn't handle the fact that he wasn't strong enough to even have a chance at beating the DM. He also wouldnt let Sam and Bucky do their thing because he couldn't handle being sidelined. He took the Serum because "he had to be Captain America" even though he could have stepped down. Again, Sam and Bucky would be perfect, but he refused to allow that to be an option. I saw his kindness as more of a manipulation tactic than genuine kindness. @@BowmansWorld the character is written to highlight the reasons that he is different from Steve Rogers, who made the uniform and persona what it is. Look beyond the surface level. People don’t dislike him just to dislike him there’s a reason. Yes his intentions are good and he desires to prove himself. But there can never be another Steve. Steve was one of a kind, and yes your intentions can initially be “pure” but when things get hard it is about how you react and handle situations. Perfect example, the writers wrote the last scene of the episode to parallel Iron Man and Caps fight in Civil War, where Steve nearly murdered Tony with the shield, but didn’t. The difference is that Walker wasn’t meant to have that level of power and stature, and so he couldn’t do what Steve could. Point is, instead of making him the new Cap they should’ve given him an entirely different persona *inspired* by Cap. “Captain America” is too much pressure for the average “good guy”. Ask yourself would Walker ever be able to lift Thor’s hammer. The answer is no, and that’s ok
