I've been burned too many times by these kinds of trailers to fully buy into it, and it's hard to call what feels like an in-engine cinematic trailer a "gameplay trailer", but if the final game does actually end up looking close to this, then Fable could turn out to be quite the game. Fingers crossed. To me the issue isn't about how good in-game cutscenes are. Plenty of games have some amazing in-game cutscenes. The problem is their trailer gave me little to no understanding of the moment-to-moment gameplay of the game itself. 3 seconds of the player character in combat but with a cinematic camera angle and no HUD makes it unclear if that was actually gameplay or just another cutscene.

Fable has a form of nuance that cant easily be replicated. The exact level of satirical humor mixed with muttled lower brow comedy is an art and science in its own right. Can't expect a fable game to be good, without the people from Lionhead studio. I mean Peter Molyneux basically recreated Black & White with Godus. I honestly was driven nuts trying to play that mobile game. It's so close to Black & White but not quite there. Apparently Microsoft regrets closing lionhead. If not for Sony owning Media Molecule, they'd likely do what the new Fable dev can't. After all they're the people behind dream and little big planet.

Oh, please. Fable's humor was often all over the place, and it wasn't even satirical that often. It even differed from game to game in the series, with characters like Hammer just making very lame jokes that had very little to do with satire. There's very little art or science in any of it, it's just lighthearted fun.

@@ANTORT1993 And? The game is still at least 1 or 2 years away (I think the game will not release before 2025, maybe 2026). This "show us people playing the game" nonsense people are crying for all the time doesn't make any sense when the game is in Early Alpha. Such trailers make sense a few months before release from the last Beta builds. Seriously - all those people need to stop this. There is a natural progression of trailers. Announcement trailers should always be CGI. They MUST NOT be gameplay trailers unless it is a shadow drop like HiFi Rush. Next in line are in-engine trailers to give people an idea of what the game engine is capable of. The in-game which - like it or not - is actual gameplay. And lastly, a few months before the game is reeased and after most of the work has been finished and the game is in the polishing phase - THAT is the moment to show gameplay trailers. Not before.
"In engine" is worlds apart from "in game". You can get a huge amount of fidelity out of a pre-animated and curated scene compared to what is possible with gameplay. An "in engine" movie doesn't need to process geometry and assets outside of what the predetermined camera shows. Nor does it need to process any kind of physics, collision detection, ai, or dynamic game systems. You can also tweak every single moment to only use the optimal graphics settings and effects for that specific camera angle. This trailer is a complete mix of actually impressive technology and really deceptive presentation.

What games were you playing?? Just because it wasn’t a boring character creator like most games doesn’t mean the series didn’t have plenty of options to shape your characters with clothing and hair options, leveling stats can make you buff and tall, eat too much you got fat, etc etc. That’s definitely customization. Or do you want a boring, generic selection of bars where your character remains the same? Every other open world and rpg does that already so go play one of those, perhaps?
@lastmanstanding7155

@@derpthegr8689 Woah. Why is it boring? Your perspective of character creation isn't the default correct one. And it is correct to question the statment. Some tattos, hair, and specs here and there is actually considered bare bones. Sure I think it's interesting and the game will probably keep that but it might not. Who knows? But the majority of people don't really consider just changing your clothes or something to be character cutomization. Otherwise games like the wticher and the latest AC games also could be considered to be customizable when in reality all ur doing is changing a few aspects of the character. You can only be male in 1 and do everything previously metnioned. You could be male or female but I'm pretty certain the age and buffness was preset unless you went and changed it. In 3 it's the same as 2 but I thnk you couldn't even get that buff looking anymore. Well atleast not like fable 1 anyway. So yea pretty bare bones stuff. @@gammarayos No. There's no customization in the original Fable games even close to that. And in the first game, much like the first Saint's Row, you don't even get a choice between male and female. In Fable, your character's appearance changes based on their actions, or you can find items you can use to change appearance.
I think publishers use the "in engine footage" claim because even if the final game does not end up looking like what is advertised, if they can prove that their engine is capable of the advertised footage one way or another, it does not count as false advertisement.

I'm late but I'm worried there won't be an option to fully spec into skill, strength, or will. In the previous games, you had the choice of melee (strength), ranged (skill), and magic. The MCs were canonly heroes that were jack-of-all trades. Some heroes specialized had a primary specialty with a secondary one. Alignment was also a huge factor into the character you played as. I long for the days of Fable 2's alignment system, it was complex and I enjoyed it. Reputation was everything! If the townsfolks hated or loved you, you knew it. Also, no dog? I know Fable 1 didn't have an animal companion, but I sacrificed millions of lives I didn't already put on offer to the Shadow Demon God for my fleabag!

Wait for more info -.-! The game Will have all of that. It's like be worried about the next Gears game not having ultra violence and Lancers wtf. The game will be good, PlayGround Games means quality games, and the fact that that games are racing games doesn't mean they can't develop Fable. Naughty Dog did Crash Bandicoot and then Uncharted... be patience. Likely Fable drops next year, if not, we're gonna have lots of info ALL the time until 2025 drops.
But Xbox didn't say everything would be in-game footage. They said no CGI for first party releases at the showcase. So doing interpretations of whether in-game means gameplay is debating something that wasn't even said.
I understand it's graphically beautiful, but I wish they went for a more stylised look. I get that they're old games but the cartoony style was something I adored. Edit: Either way, what matters is the gameplay. My personal preference isn't the most important factor here! ☺️

Fable games have never had a character creator, at least not the main titles. You chose a boy or a girl and how you looked depended on the good/evil/corrupt/pure mechanic. You started off average and your choices and actions in game dictated the way you looked. Good = you became more Angelic, Evil = You became more demonic, Corrupt = you became uglier and dirtier and Pure = you got cleaner and more classically handsome/beautiful. Be very careful when saying if footage is "gameplay" or "in-game". None of these devs ever used the word gameplay. They said it was captured on an Xbox, that's it. 8:56 - People don't seem to understand that this is just a style of doing a teaser-trailer, which this is, and that it's merely a means to introduce the world and its characters, as well as visual style and tone, NOT to show that this is what the game will also do (doing these "docu"-style interviews) and whatnot. - This is nothing new either, this style has been done before, even in videogames. - A close example I can give is the "Meet the..." trailers for 'Team Fortress 2'. And yes, for a game that's a multiplayer-shooter without a story and such (although with a bit of light "lore", I suppose) that's more acceptable, but those trailers are also for doing the exact same thing, teasing, marketing, whatever, NOT to show what the actual presentation will be like. - If anything, they might even have taken those trailers as an example, because if you look at the last shot of the 'Fable'-trailer, and the last shot of the infamous 'Meet the Scout' trailer, it totally seems like they made a nod to that AND the style.
I’m gonna wait till we see actual gameplay with hud and all. Fable 2 is one of my favorites games from the 360 era, I don’t think it will be enough to make me get an Xbox but if this and star field turn out to be better than all the disbelief, it will definitely will get me thinking.

I don't know if its just me but as cool as it was to see Richard ayoade the character model faces were almost all creepy/uncanny valley esque to me
I'm also going to be skeptical, considering we've all been burned by the promise of "in-game footage" and it being faked. Not to mention, some have experienced performance issues on the Series X and S, which suggests that despite the latest Xboxes and PS5s are not as equal as specs on a sheet would suggest. So I doubt the game would be running that fluid on an xbox console.
A staple of Fable to create your own character? That definitely wasn't in the first one.
Artstation clearly showed me they made a vertical slice. One artist showed his light work on the chicken kick part. Its definitely not what its say it is.
The last time I checked, this medium of entertainment was about video _GAMES._ A CGI trailer with zero GAMEPLAY for your video GAME means borderline NOTHING to your consumers. How about of wasting time and money creating a movie trailer (that’s all this was), you instead put those resources into finishing the VIDEO GAME.
No Gameplay = No Hype = No Buy These are the rules, game industry. We will not change them.
We still obsessed over graphics? What’s more important is how does combat and progression feel; is the dialogue cringe? Do you have to play 20 hours before it gets good all that is significantly more important than damn the trailer lied about lighting and camera angles 😔
My biggest issue is that this doesn't feel like fable, it feels like a generic witcher clone.
Honestly when it comes to Playgrounds and their prioritisation of graphics fidelity, I'm not surprised. Forza has always been at the top of the list in this regard and if you look at some of their pevious Forza presentations... for the time they came out they were amazing. But having a studio thats legendary for making racing sims create a high-fantasy narrative focused RPG is scary. It reminds of when EA made Bioware create Anthem. Bioware (at the time) was considered the king of the multi-choice character driven rpg scene in both high fantasy and scifi spaces. Seeing them create Anthem an action-combat looter shooter was odd but Bioware's reputation (at the time) was still pretty good so everyone was optimistic and pre-orders were nuts (relatively speaking for a new IP) because the game had Bioware's name on it. We all know how that ended. I'm incredibly nervous this Fable remake is going to be a repeat of the Anthem situation.

@@jasoncarnelian3325 I definitely get that but one thing that I thought about alot when thinking about EXACTLY THIS is "why would they choose Playgrounds?" And the main thing I noticed is that alot of what Playgrounds' focus is as a development team is actually heavily in the lane of open world exploration, non-rigid gameplay, high quality visuals and user experience customisability. Despite being a racing sim, at the end of the day, one of FH5's biggest and best qualities is it's large dynamic sandbox map. I'm not sure how much larger in scale Fable's map would be (if it even is) but if you ever got a chance to go into FH5 and look at the quality of the map used for that game it says alot about the strengths of Playgrounds in terms of those first 3 traits. RPGs and driving sims unironically do share a bit of similarities in terms of what big draws can be when you really think about it, in my experience user customisability is usually at the top for both; "oh i need my character to look a certain way or else I lose my immersion" - "my car has to look perfect or else i wont feel comfortable driving it" - etc. I definitely see why the fear is setting in but I don't expect AS MUCH of a drag from this as main other people do, I think that the only area I have an undeniable amount of fear in is narrative. Considering that's, by far, the biggest thing you cannot make parallels or translate between these two types of games. And considering why I personally play Fable, if the narrative sucks... the game might as well be a flop.

@@jasoncarnelian3325 It isn't the actual Forza developers working on Fable, they have two teams now. PG1 is working on Horizon 6, PG2 is working on Fable.

@@albanier8426 that’s a huge relief
I really do not give a sh*t about the graphics. I just want it to expand on the unique features that the old Fable games had. I always felt like Fable needed to refine and expand on its existing systems, features, mechanics, lore and world instead of adding new systems, features and mechanics. If the game does end up looking this good but a lot of the Unique stuff is absent, thats when i will be disappointed.

Yeah, we need a Fable game like Final Fantasy 3.

I mean the graphics aren’t that good when they render a chick as a dude

Fable had new "unique features" in every single game because Molyneux just threw every damn idea at the wall and the team had to scramble to make any of it halfway work.
The first Red flag is that Playground specializes in racing games and its jumping genres with Fable (RPG) and might not be adapted to make RPGs

Bioware had only made Shattered Steel (a mech sim game) before Baldur's Gate, so I wouldn't necessarily pigeonhole a company like that.
We all know that none of this is why that vid was downvoted. Shame on you for not even mentioning it

It’s because the woman is an ugly troll and nobody wants to pay as it.
Is the “camera” more like “breaking the fourth wall”? I think that can be a valid storytelling choice
Graphics aren't even half the battle though. Does it feel fun to play? Is the world interesting? Are the quests/story fun and engaging? Yeah, cool if it looks that nice, but I can't imagine it actually running smoothly and feeling good to play if it has graphics like that. I agree though, the facial capture is probably some of the best I've seen.
I’ve only played 1 Fable game before and watched someone play the third game I think. Is this one gonna be set in the same universe? Because I wasn’t aware there were giants there
Fable hasn't had a character creator... you could only change your hair and dye things. The rest was all based on how good/bad you are with the default male and female.
This might be kind of unpopular take, but I really don't like how the game looks. If you remember the previous Fable games, the characters weren't realistic, they were very stylized and exaggerated. Everybody looked memorable. But this new one is going for very realistic style, and all the characters we saw in the trailer just looked like regular people that you might see on the streets. That's not the Fable I want. ...Yeah, some people are upset about how the protagonist in trailer looks. Who cares, there's definitely gonna be character creation.

@@ChristophBrinkmann Yeah, but I'd say that visual style was fairly consistent between the games. Of course Fable 2 looked better than first one(since we went from original Xbox to 360), but you could still see the same character design style in it.
