Amos hints about his past are scattered among all the 4 previous season. "I grew up in places like this" talking about brothels, "Have you ever talked to a pedophile" talking about Cortazar "I didn't always work in space" talking about how he knows how to walk in high heels. "I haven't felt fears since I was five years old" talking to Alex and then again "that's when they came" talking about darkness. Add his obsession to protecting little kids and you got Amos' past all laid out carefully with breadcrmbs in the past 4 season. Masterful storytelling.

Erich is not Amos' actual "brother", but they survived the streets together and became like "brothers". Once they were older, and both working for the crime boss, as Erich said, Amos shot the actual crime boss "Amos Burton" instead of who he was ordered to shoot-which was Erich. Then he took his name and got off planet where he was able to learn all the mechanic stuff that changed his life.

25:00 I think the moment Steven is talking was in s4e08, where Amos was talking to Wei: "I don't know what I am. When I was five, I lived in a basement. And I'd have nightmares, and when I woke up and opened my eyes, everything was still black. That's when they came in. I thought I was dead and there was nothing I could do about it. " Amos had also hinted at a life of child abuse multiple times before this. In season 1, when he was talking to Alex in a bar, Alex noticed the prostitutes and Amos had said something along the lines of how he grew up in places like that. Again in season 2 with Prax, he told him about how girls would be treated by their pimps implying he'd was involved with people like that. Then in season 3 when the Roci crew rescued Bobby and Avasarala, he had said walking in magboots is just like walking in pumps and Avasarala asked how he knows what it's like to walk around in pumps, and Amos answered, "I didn't always work in space." Hard life for the guy.

There was also the "have you ever questioned a pedophile" talk he had with Holden about Cortazar, telling Alex he hadn't felt fear since he was 5 (matching with what he told Wei later), and the naming of the Rocinante itself. When they named the ship he said he knew a woman with that name who treated him well. We didn't know enough about him yet at that point to think anything of it, but it's a very strange nickname for a woman that makes far more sense as you learn more about him later.

The 53.7% match they mentioned was about the ship's drive signature. It didn't have anything to do with the genetics of anyone on board the ship. The science ship's cameras recorded the drive plume of the Belter skiff as it slowed down to intercept them. So they had an image of the exhaust of their engine to compare to other known ships. It's sort of like crime scene analysis, every ship is unique and thus the way they burn and expel propellant is going to look unique when put under close inspection. The science ship wasn't pointing it's cameras at this ship, it was studying the remains of this rogue asteroid. So they don't have a particularly clear image of the ship as it approached and they couldn't match it with high confidence. That's why they think it is a coin flip on whether the ship belongs to Marco Inaros or not.

There are like a half a dozen spots where Amos drops hints about his back story and for the most part each gives more information than the last. Off the top of my head there is: Early on when they're drinking in a brothel bar on Tycho in season 1 he tells Alex 'I grew up in places like this' Then his pedophile analogy when talking to Holden about how to reach Cortzar. His 'joke' that he actually meant seriously when Chrisjen asks him how he knows what it is like to walk in pumps. In addition to his conversation with Prax after their run in with chicken man, about what the people he grew up around would do to girls like Prax's daughter. Also his later comments to Prax about how every kid deserves one person who never gives up on them, and probably some similarly subtle references in his conversations Anna.

Amos reminds me so much of Lt. Speirs from Band of Brothers! They have this same aura of complete confidence and deadliness about them. As Speirs explains to a soldier, it comes from letting go of love of life. Once you are in that place, that death is inches away from almost being an escape/release from a tortured existence, you emmanate something people pick up on a instinctual level. I've seen it a few times in real life in people, and it's exactly the same aura/vibe.

I like how Drummer went back to being a pirate. It's not the outcome we all want, in the interests of Kumbaya, etc...but it is believable on a human level. It's a writing choice that respects our intelligence & honest storytelling in general. Most of our Belter badasses in this series were originally pirates & that's what they are at heart. Eventually they're forced to transcend their lot in life & serve the greater good but it's nice to see them in their raw state, too.

Wow! That's really cool! At first, I wasn't sure if this was true, but I looked up his imdb. On the one hand, it's cool... (omg, pun not intended), but it's cool that they hired him, and he wants to do acting, but I fear that is a very niche role he will be able to fill. I hope he gets more roles!

So I've read the novels and novellas that the Expanse is based on. Some extra Amos back story details in addition to the TV backstory. Lydia was his adopted mother but she had a sexual relationship with (she was understandably a messed up person due to her horrific life). You may remember in earlier seasons the security firm "Star Helix" was mentioned and a bit player. "Amos" killed Amos for Eric who gives him a new ID in return and he gets off planet. When he meets Eric who leaves the gun on the table as he turns to get the drinks if he had gone for the gun he'd have been dead before he could even raise it toward Eric as there was some remote hidden weapon turret in the room. Lastly Amos is the last surviving Character after the last 3 novels that are sadly never going to TV or film. He's alive a millennium after the Expanse events when an outer planets ship visits their home world system after ftl travel is developed.

As to your point about if naomi should have let holden join her remember how extreme this group is, and remember that holden is an earther. It would be comparable to bringing a black boyfriend within reach of kkk, or a jew within reach of nazis. Naomi did not know about the current plans, but she knew what this group was capable of, which is why she left them in the first place. That is a whole lot of risk just to let holden feel involved.

God now I know why Amos takes no crap of anyone. To be abused probably raped as a kid. And when the John's got sick of him used him as muscle. Thank god he had Lydia to look out for him. Iv loved Amos as a character from his first appearance on the show. I know he is funny but now I know why he Says I won't like to you to Wie the girl he shot in the planet. Man he is a tough man and a better man for getting of the planet. Him and Niomi are perfect friends when you actually think of it. Both of them have been abused so they are so close and Niomi probably doesn't know the stiff that happened to him this episode Broke my heart when the guy in Lydia apparentment started talking about John's and god knows the guy went through. All I know is he is a good guy deep down. Definitely a guy you want in your camp. This cast all of the cast even the people who only have small parts all play a massive role for me loving the show and the people writing the show stick to the source material and I can see now why witcher fans are mad about witcher show runners giving us there witcher and not the guy who wrote the books. They don't use the source for the witcher and that's probably why it well get cancelled. The expense stays on the page of what's wrote in the books and it clearly works ri be a great show people could learn from the EXPANSE

I didn't think Eric was Amos' birth brother but someone who he went through the same crap that he did & they grew up together. Friends so close and bonded by trauma that they think of themselves as family. I always thought that Amos had no birth family and only a found family. The crime boss Amos may have done that to Eric. Eric said that Timothy killed Amos Burton instead of killing him like he was told to. But, it is possible that he was forced by the real Amos to maim him but refused to kill him when told & instead killed the real Amos. But, I assumed the crime boss did it to him.

As far as the guy who works for Fred being a "negative Nancy", sure his tone might rub you the wrong the way. But what he's saying isn't necessarily off-base. That's what I appreciate about this show. It checks its audience members to make sure they're actually paying attention to the dialogue and wanting to put people in "good guy" and "bad guy" boxes. Ashford was the same deal. I would say lets treat Marco Inaros the same way. The writers of the series certainly want to play more in the grey and less in the black and white when it comes to characters. I feel like that's an old way of storytelling that's becoming more and more antiquated.
