When !!!HUGE MAN!!! is an anomaly the way they solve it is calling him to tell him off for harassing the security guard.

I can't imagine what the other guy is thinking, first stuck in endless purgatory train, and then station, with a whack job he keeps running around looking at everything

5:20 That's actually a light polarising layer - every LED screen has one, and what you're talking about is when they remove that layer from the phone, and apply that layer to the glasses instead.

Exactly what I was going to comment, anyone that has tried disassembling a screen probably saw how many "plastic" thin separate layers they surprisingly have. One of those helps you see the screen, and if you remove it the screen seems white and put the polarizing film from the screen into your glasses (or use already polarized glasses) then you see the screen content.

I just keep this sort of game in a Steam library category named "Spot the Concerning Difference"

It is kind of funny how Observation Duty 3 was kind of a miss for Notovia yet this game and all that spawned after are essentially OD3. I suppose these that came after had a better chance of making improvements for better playability. But we can't deny Notovia certainly opened the doors. And then made us report the open door cuz you know it wasn't like that before!

Very satisfying. That smooth transition from Platform 8 to The Exit 8 was great to watch! Now that we got a prequel, hopefully we get an Exit 8 sequel sometime in the future 🙏🏽

Generalizing the game style into a genre... you could argue it's just a Spot the Difference game but Horror. HSD (Horror-Spot-the-Difference) wouldn't be a bad abbreviation, and I do think it's worth differentiating these spook-driven anomaly games from more mundane spot-the-difference games (which, is really mostly minigames I think).

5:05 There are some screen protectors that only allow you to see what is on the screen if you view it dead on, any other angle than that it gets darker until you can't see, but the screen is still on. They are called Privacy Screen Protector, it is pretty handy if you don't want people seeing your texts/photos or anything on your phone.

They're not true anomalies until the anomalies try to kill you

I think calling it the Observer Genre or Anomaly Genre is very all-encompassing

To get it clear, the phone has a special filter removed in it that is normally there to see rhe screen. Every polarized glasses will be able to see the screen. Ut is just a cheaper phone people will pay 3 times the normal ammount.

The "super privacy" phone you're talking about is just an LCD screen without the polarised light filter on it. You can do it to any LCD screen by taking off the ploarising layer from it. It will appear as just white to anyone looking at it, but if you make glasses out of the layer you took off, it will show in colour with images just to you. In order for LCD to work it needs the filter to display the correct colours and not just full spectrum light.

An interesting mechanic for an Observation Duty style game would be where you yourself have to go and fix the anomalies. The game starts with you cycling through some cams in a little office and when you discover an anomaly you have to gather the appropriate tools in your office to then go and correct the anomaly. Specific tools would fix specific anomalies, like you need special hazmat gloves to fix an "Object Moved" anomaly, or if there is an "Intruder Anomaly" you have to bring a flashlight and hunt down the intruder. The Observation Duty style genre is fantastic and its really cool to see how some devs are adding their own personal twist to it.

The lore behind the other guy is that he himself has become an anomaly from being in the loop for too long. Then, one day, someone else ends up in the loop he watches them to and finally is able to escape, only to be put into another loop. But atleast its different this time.

I liked the Observation Duty where you walked along the clinic and had to take picture of the anomaly. It was quite fun and thrilling at the same time. I wish they had mantained this dynamic in some regard in the other sequels.

Honestly since its been years I think since recently you have been playing older horror games and stuff I feel you should revisit Alien Isolation since imo its one of the goats of horror games

There were some missed in this one, like face on the yellow tiles, "GO BACK GO BACK" on the ceiling sign, maby more. I think if you'll go one more time - it's better to just wipe out all the saves and caches, so you'll truly go through every anomaly

Funny enough, I kinda see Observation Duty as more of a "sit and survive" kinda game, more similar to fnaf. Exit 8 and Observation Duty are still both spot the difference games too. It's rough to categorize!

I don't know about a special phone that you can only see the screen with the company glasses. But there is definitely a screen that can only be seen by the someone who is looking directly in front of it. Here it is translated as "no gossip screen", or something like that.

You should play observation duty 3 again, and see if you like it more now that you can think of it as an exit 8 kind of game.

The day after I saw this video, I purchased the game and beat it. Amazing game 10 out of 10.

I have referred to them as "Anomaly Games" before and think that might be a good term for the overall play style of those games and very encompassing

You do realize you can see what you did wrong in exit 8 too. If you see platform 0 while continuing, you can turn back immediately and see what was wrong.

These are both included in this video! I don't remember there ever being an anomaly with the smoke sign disappearing but we didn't see that one here if it exists but I'm pretty sure it doesnt

Day 4 of recommending Insym to play Grounded. Original Comment: If your looking for a game similar to The Forest and that would have a very long series, i reccomend the game Grounded on steam. Its basically 'Honey I Shrunk The Kids' as your trying to survive in a massive backyard as a shrunken kid. Its a super fun game with story, lore, collectables, boss fights, you name it. I highly recommend and would love if you checked it out!

I still enjoy I'm On Observation Duty 3. I like playing it in VR. I really wish there could be an update to add another map and revamp the anomalies a bit. 25 in 30 minutes feels too slow to me. Maybe if it was 30-40 in 15-20 minutes. Yeah you don't want it too hard, but it should be more fast paced in my opinion.
