As long as you have Chaos energy in your system like Shadow, it definitely is (the space distorting version, at least)

I think Shadow should be the one character that can use choas control without an emerald. Shadow's body is like a vessel filled with chaos energy, and when he takes off his inhibitor rings he releases the chaos energy thats already within him. It would make sense for Shadow to be able to use chaos control without an emerald because he'd still have chaos energy with him. When he does chaos control with an emerald, he draws chaos energy from the emerald. When he does chaos control without an emerald, he draws chaos energy from within himself.

Exactly what I'm thinking. It's also the main reason Shadow has inhibitor rings. He can't let it all out at once, without risking the huge damage it could cause, So he uses his chaos energy in moderation.

The only problem is, where would he have gotten that Chaos Energy from? It's not like Gerald can just make it. The only thing I can think of is if he did something like how Tails made a fake Emerald, which he kinda did in the form of Chaos Drives. (Don't tell me if Shadow dies, he'll pop and a chaos dive will float around in his place like a GUN robot. LOL)

Well... Shadow was literally CREATED thanks to the Chaos Emeralds. 😏 It was obvious to me to think that thanks to this, he could use the power of Chaos Control without any problems, even without the Emeralds. 🤔 And if you need to somehow answer the question: "Why does not he somehow run out of this energy?". That I don't really know... In my opinion, it was always something to do with Shadow having to wear his inhibitor rings (unlike Sonic 👀), and the fact that the Chaos Emeralds themselves somehow have "Nearly Unlimited Power" while still providing the wearer with energy from (almost) nowhere... By the way, I even adore the fact that in Sonic X they showed the idea of ​​removing his rings, and in Sonic 06 they only improved it, making Shadow without inhibitor rings Very Much important and reminiscent of an incomplete version of Super form !) ^w^ (unlike various fanart/animations where he turns red in a Chaos Blast and Chaos Boost likeness... 😞)

In Windii's translation of Tikal's prayer, the last line is "the one who masters (the power from the heart) also controls chaos". While it doesn't explicitly say Chaos Control in English, it's obvious what this implies.

Shame he doesn't use it as much, but I'm not sure how much they WOULD be using it? I mean maybe in Frontiers, but we see Sonic doing so much more, his abilities just seem like alternate versions of Shadow's powers.

I like to point out that the Time Travel variant of Chaos Control seems to only be possible when two users with an Emerald each invoke it at the same time. If a single use of Chaos Control is meant to allow the user to stop time or teleport something in the space around them, then a simultaneous use must combine both of those abilities. Double/Dual Chaos Control allows the users to teleport to a point in time. Pretty cool.

@@tlst94 Well despite time stones being only used once, I'm going to assume that Time Stones control time, but don't change your place. If you time travel with Chaos Control, you also can change your location in that time, while Time Stones probably don't do that. Plus, two users need to invoke Chaos Control, while you only need one person with all of the Time Stones to mess with time. Mostly speculation tho.

@@bakedbeans5494 really? Can you name an example where they did it with one? I'm pretty sure that Mephiles opened up a portal on his own or with one Emerald, but I feel that he might be a special case.

I liked to think as a child that Knuckles was much more naturally gifted with Chaos control almost like a “Ki” based off of his relationship to the Master Emerald while the Hedgehogs learned it a little later (with the exception of Shadow)

Another confirmation that chaos control draws from the user is the retroactive implementation of Sonic X’s inhibitor ring aspect of Shadow’s power. One of the Twitter takeovers confirmed how Shadow was doomed and Sonic tried to save him. Being Super alone wasn’t enough for Shadow to pull off the final stretch so he had to tap deeper into the reserves of his power to the point of almost dying.

The way I see it, Shadow was infused with the energy of the Chaos Emeralds during his creation, allowing him to use other Chaos abilities without the Emeralds like Chaos Spear, and Chaos Blast. So it would make sense that he can also use Chaos Control without the Emeralds, but it would be far more limited in its effects. However, if he removes his inhibitor rings, then the affects of all his Chaos abilities are enhanced for a while, but he ends up extremely exhausted and must rest for a period of time.

10:22 Actually, it's far more consistent than you state: Shadow uses Chaos Control without an Emerald multiple times throughout SA2's story: at the beginning of the game after Eggman frees him from his stasis, when he saves Rouge (he begins to charge the ability before grabbing onto her) and in the final showdown against Sonic, when the latter has one of them and the other 6 are on the Ark's cannon (that said, actually wielding an Emerald/s increases its power and range, and Shadow's dialogue to Sonic in their first confrontation was to esablish how Chaos Control and the Emeralds are connected so that Sonic could later replicate it). In Shadow the Hedgehog (the game), Black Doom is shown to be able to do so as well, as he warps himself and Shadow around a couple of times, as well as teleporting around as Devil doom in the final battle, when he doesn't have them anymore: while it isn't stated, it's implied Shadow got his own ability to use Chaos Control with no emeralds directly from Black Doom, and it's likely one of the reasons Gerald needed his DNA to complete the Ultimate Life From project. Shodw then uses Chaos control teleportation in his '06 story intro, and in the Sonic Forces prologue against Infinite. Shadow can also use Chaos Control to slow down time in Sonic Rivals 1 and 2, and uses it to freeze time against a Phantom Ruby clone of himself in a Sonic Forces cutscene. I believe Shadow (and those directly related to him or whom have copied his powers) is the only one who can do this, whereas other Chaos Users like Sonic, the Biolizard and Silver require an Emerald/s to do so. Even then, time-manipulation is something that likely requires more effort from Shadow and he can't just spam it like teleportation.

Well said! Shadow has used Chaos Control without an Emerald in pretty much every single one of his major appearances. And there's also more than just subtextual evidence that he got that ability from Black Doom! In the post Reboot Archie comics story, known as "Shadow Fall", it's shown/stated by the character Eclipse that Shadow's innate ability to use Chaos has always been apart of the Black Arms and physiology. Likely due to some sort of experimentation with the Emeralds when Black Doom went to Earth in the past (evidence comes in the fact that we later see the remnants of the Black Arms performing mutations with the Wisps Hyper Go-on energy as well). I bring that story up, because it was written by Ian Flynn. Acting as evidence that even the lead writer of the comics was under the impression that Shadow gained this specific ability from the Black Arms.

Shadow did not use chaos control when he was freed from stasis its a easy mistake to make but if you pay attention after the flash shadow is still in the same place he was before meaning he did not teleport. All the other times he either had emperor at least had one nearby the only exception was the boss fight with sonic witch could be seen as gameplay only.

He could do that in Sonic 06 and Shadow the hedgehog. Shadow has always been able to teleport short distances without the emerald ever since his inception. The only times he needed and an emerald was for the variation that alters time flow among the other chaos control abilities. I mean every move the guys uses starts with chaos chaos spear, Chaos Snap [teleport], Chaos blast, Chaos boost. He was literally made to have an affinity for Chaos energy so that he could sense the prescence of the emeralds to collect them for Black Doom [or to defeat him]. I'm willing to bet he only used the emerald to warp in SA2 was to show Sonic how much more capable he was being able to find uses for one emerald when up to that point Sonic needed all 7 for them to be useful.

Hopelfully with the Chaos Emeralds being plot relevent again, maybe Chaos Control, and Chaos Energy manipulation can be explored in the future.

I think you should have mentioned how Shadow was able to use Chaos Control in Forces without an implied emerald in possession. And that was time stop variant of CC. I think that feat itself can prove that with enough energy you can you preform chaos control.

8:47 - Chaos Boost is not technically unique or even original move to 06. It first appeared in Shadow the Hedgehog. After you defeat enough of "good" enemies, your "evil gauge" fills up, and you also get this red aura around yourself. It was even stronger than in 06, because it provided complete immunity to all attacks, not just bullets. And just like in 06, he couldn't use Chaos Blast without Chaos Boosting himself first.

Chaos Boost was usable with Chaos Drives and they're just Chaos Energy crystalized, it never states negative and this is usable by Sonic and Silver, that's the state known as Dark Shadow and Black Doom even states the Guage and CB is born from evil and makes a comment for him to embrace such feelings & energy to use CB.

I always assumed frequent use of chaos control made Shadow so skilled with it that he could just do it on his own. I feel like I remember Sonic Chronicles saying something like that and I think there was some implication that the same was happening for Sonic.

Awww, you left out the most important part! That Biolizard had a 'Chaos Control' organ, and from that, we can presume that all organic users of the move possess such an organ!

Another instance of Shadow using chaos control without an emerald is durring his fight with Sonic on the Ark. Sonic has the fake one and all 7 of the real ones are inside the Ark.

I think there might be some semantics in the techniques phrasing. Chaos Control could theoretically be using chaos to control space and time, instead of Controlling Chaos. While what Knuckles does, I could see being the opposite. Rather than using the power of chaos to control something, he's controlling the power of chaos.

Chaomix can really make us watch an entire 1 hour Sonic documentary about something that we don't really think much about. It's amazing, really

Like the Chaos Emeralds,Chaos Control is a Mysterious Ability that even to this Day We Still Haven’t Scraped the Full Potential on it,It’s Possible to make Chaos Control without the Emerald as Long as a Small Amount of Power is inside of the Holder of the Emeralds Or with the Rings,One Thing is Clear,Black Doom has Mastered this Technique for Decades and Shadow has the Biggest Connection and Understanding with the Power of Chaos than Any Other Character.

I think the chaos emeralds seem to be the source of unlimited power like the sun. Firebenders need the sun's energy to first of all perform firebending let alone retain their own body heat, much in the same way you likely need the emerald to retain your energy after pulling off chaos control. You could probably firebend or chaos control without the sun or emerald but the consequences of doing so isn't worth it unless one feels it's absolutely necessary.

In Shadow the Hedghog (2005) Some Elite Black Arms on the comment are also implied to use it with them freely teleporting around (Not just teleporting in but disappearing and reappearing throughout the immediate area.)

Kinda interesting to see rings actually making themselves as an useful item for Chaos Control in past 3D Sonic games, since in classic games they're just a thing you can't loose if you don't want to die. Especially regards to Super Sonic.

I would also like to add that Shadow uses Chaos Control without an emerald during his fight with Sonic on the Ark, unless he's somehow using Sonic's fake emerald.

I agree with your theory that chaos emerald isn’t necessarily required for basic uses of chaos control. Even all the way back in sonic adventure 2, there is evidence to support that. In the final battle of the hero campaign shadow still uses chaos control against sonic, despite the fact, none of the chaos emeralds are there apart from the fake one sonic possesses. So it is clear shadow does not possess the chaos emerald at that point, but it’s still able to warp a small distance. I’ve always looked at it as shadow has some chaos, energy, naturally flowing through him, as seen, whenever he removes his inhibitor rings, so that’s my justification for white shadow can do this, but characters like sonic or silver, need an emerald. And of course, with each Emerald, the power increases. Hence, why whenever we see shadow warping without an emerald it’s only a short distance.

If Sonic Chronicles was canon, shadow could create black holes.

This whole video makes me want a sonic game with a "definitive" shadow moveset, with his chaos powers and all. maybe bring back the shadow rifle, who knows?

There's actually one small, very missable detail example about Chaos Control warping Time in SA2!! At the very end, when Super Sonic and Super Shadow are preparing to fire off the technique, you can see the ARK very rapidly deteriorating and losing/burning up many parts as it enters the atmosphere. However, after it's been re-set to its proper Lagrange Point in space, you can see that it's actually been completely restored as well! It's very clear that it's completely intact during the part where the credits are rolling and you see the ARK scrolling behind Earth as Live & Learn plays (still so awesome, by the way). Now, we don't know whether Time was basically reversed for the ARK from the time of CC happening to before the Biolizard took over (like spamming Undo on a project file), or if it was literally restored to a previous, complete version after being warped (like taking an old version of a file in an old folder and moving it into a new folder)(or maybe Chaos Control just took all the broken parts and put them back together? lol), OR if this is just an oversight from Sonic Team and/or they didn't want to make a new 3D model of the properly destroyed Space Colony ARK (that seems like a stretch, though), it is nonetheless a real example of Chaos Control warping/changing the Time in Space-Time! Now, let me actually answer your question... For all the reasons stated in the video; yes, you can Chaos Control without having a Chaos Emerald! There's also a few extra reasons that I personally believe as well as ones posted in the comments - Once you've used it once with an Emerald, you've basically unlocked the ability to use it naturally. Because if you're already a Chaos User, Chaos Energy is already flowing through you, and all it would take is to retrace the steps it takes to do Chaos Control, but now at the expense of your own/Ring energy. There's also the fact that the Biolizard was given a "Chaos Control organ", which means Shadow (and probably Sonic, too) likely has one as well, as well as any other organic creatures who would have the ability to do it. I kinda don't like that it basically goes down to "good genetics" or being created with it in mind, but that's just how it tends to play out in this series lol...

I mean Sonic has been shown to have wind and electrical abilities in multiple games, comics, and even the movies. So him being able to manipulate wind/lightning to fire them, like how Blaze can manipulate fire, isn’t entirely without reason. And besides, even in Frontiers, Sonic can use those abilities without any emeralds

I feel like the implication is that a lot of them at least are actually ancient technology he gained through Cyber Space energy (I mean "The End" even says about as much every time sonic unlocks a new ability by saving one of his friends) Tho the Super moves on a Cyloop in the boss fights do seem to be Chaos Energy related.

There's no reason to believe those powers are Chaos energy. Rather, they're abilities temporarily granted to Sonic due to him absorbing energy from Cyberspace (hence Cyloop being called CYloop).

Actually, I think we might've had Sonic doing Emeraldless Chaos Control much sooner, all the way back in Sonic Rush. Now, file names aren't necessarily canon, but in Unleashed, the boost aura is internally referred to as Chaos Energy, and when Shadow uses boost during his rival fight, he shouts "Chaos Control!" It could be that boost is using Chaos Control to increase gravity ahead of you, while creating negative gravity behind you; an alcubierre warp drive. If so, then theoretically speaking, there's no limit to how fast Sonic can go.

Seeing how Sonic Supers Stars was, I think they tried to give their own version of Chaos control to the classic era with the Emerald Powers In other words, the power of the yellow emerald is a kind of primitive Chaos control over time.

That might be true, but to a lower extant. If a character can use Chaos Control with out an emerald it would probably be for more basic use.

I have actually known all of this chaos control stuff that was in sonic heroes ending boss battle with the time freeze and also the multiplayer mode in sonic adventure 2 and the shadow the hedgehog game but i didnt know anything from the sonic battle game. 😅 You totally reminded me about all of this stuff and I thank you so much for that and I love this video so much and thanks so much for all of the amazing work and videos! It's interesting to think about how we'll likely see this move appearing on the big screen for the third Sonic movie. Though, we may have already, since Robotnik warps about at the end of the second movie. Which does raise the question on if his use of the Master Emerald's energy for materialization also counts as a form of Chaos Control, similar to Chaos Spear, and Knuckles own control of the emerald from the games.

i have a feeling that only a few characters can use the chaos control without an emerald. Shadow: as he said in sonic battle he can get the energy from his heart Silver:the whole timewarp thing, Silver constantly jumps to present and future even when he hasnt got one, even if they are in use. Knuckles: he can channel the emeralds energy as he is the guardian and i dont know if this is canon but chaos knuckles exists, that could be a form of channeling

A cool replacement for sonic's use of chaos control (if they dont want hin to keep using it for some reason) would be Time Break and Speed Break from secret rings. They feel like less powerfull versions of both capabilities of chaos control. Time Break doesn't stop time, just slows it down, and speed break is not a teleport, just a inmediat speed boost. The only problem would be "how did sonic got those abilities back" but since cyber space draws from the memories of the people trapped in it probably sonic could be "re-enchanced" to use them without requiring the ring and the soul gage

Shadow can definitely use Chaos Control without an Emerald. He's done it in practically every game he's appeared in. SA2, he uses it when Eggman first releases him, and in his final battke against Sonic. Heck, the BIOLIZARD uses Chaos Control after the Chaos Emeralds were powered down by Knuckles via the Master Emerald. In Shadow the Hedgehog, Black Doom constantly uses Chaos Control to warp Shadow to other levels without a Chaos Emerald. Then there's the example you discussed, where in the final level where Shadow has to use it to progress through the Black Comet when Black Doom is in possession of all 7 Emeralds. In Sonic 06, Shadow uses it to teleport into Dr. Eggman's base with no Emeralds. Chaos Snap is also him literally warping short distances to deliver quick strikes to his opponents, and he can use it before he ever gets an Emerald in the story. In Sonic Forces, he uses Chaos Snap against Infinite, then uses Chaos Control against one of his Phantom copies. He's proven over and over again that he doesn't need an Emerald to, at the very least, warp short distances.

I want to tell you about Maekawa's original idea before the retcon in Shadow the Hedgehog. In Sonic Adventure 2, Rouge says that there was no Shadow on the Arc, only the Biolizard. Also in the game, Shadow says that his memories of Maria may be wrong. In one of the cutscenes, Gerald said that he made Shadow based on past developments, but...he made a hedgehog based on a giant lizard? This is silly. In the Sonic Adventure 2 Perfect Guide released in Japan, there is a Rouge report stating that the capsule was lost after the incident. But how? all this time the capsule was on Prison Island. Because Shadow was not on the arc, he was created by Gerald on the prison island in which he planted fake memories. It also explains why he looks like that. Gerald put all his revenge and malice into the design of Shadow. In Sonic Heroes, which was also written by Maekawa, Eggman (or metal sonic) in Casino Park tells Shadow "You have no past to remember". Given all these facts, Shadow was created on a prison island, but what is the missing pod in rouge's report? This is Sonic the Hedgehog. Shadow is his cheap copy. While Sonic is running normally and surviving at the end of the game, Shadow needs boots and dies. This also explains why Shadow looks so much like Sonic in the concept art. Last but not least, in the final battle, Shadow tells Sonic "Sonic, I think I've discovered what the Ultimate Life Form is, it might be you!". But this was changed in his solo game which was written by Takashi Iizuka. I think this is an interesting material for the video.

One hilarious thing that should be mentioned is that somehow a Chaos Control like ability has been seen way before Sonic Adventure 2 and that is in Sonic the Fighters. The characters in that game are in possession of a Chaos Emerald which is used to enter that game’s hyper mode which gives the characters exclusive moves. One of these moves is Bean the Dynamite’s “Bean Warp” which is a teleport move only accessible by going into hyper mode. Which hysterically makes Bean the first Chaos Control user in the Sonic series.

I think Shadow can use Chaos Control to a minimal degree without them thanks to his swanky blood shenanigans.

Well, yet again I've learned something new about the Adventure games. Never knew Sonic uses Chaos Control during the Shadow fight.

2:24 I feel like a detail that tends to be overlooked about this specific feat is also the inclusion of a Chaos Drive in the container that Sonic's trapped in, which I'd think probably is a big contributor to how the Fake Emerald was even able to work like that. Considering they're Professor Gerald's creations, I think they're intended to be crystals grown in a lab and infused with some of the actual Chaos Emerald's energy, and that Gerald only ever got his hands on the 4 colors we've seen in SA 2, meanwhile the only ones we see after the fact during '06 seem to be based off the Cyan Chaos Emerald, making me think they're some kinda copy of the technology that Eggman was starting to implement into his own robots until the timeline got shifted after '06, though even then we could maybe consider the energy Eggman's units in Unleashed use are also some kinda Chaos Drives.

Shadow is most proficient because he has chaos energy flowing through him so I think its only Shadow but maybe Sonic and Silver can too.

The Ancients in Frontiers are never shown to use Chaos Emeralds in this way, only using the Energy to power their machines. Would be nice for Sega to at least make a connection between them and Black Arms. All they'd have to say is: "Oh yeah, Black Arms tried to kill The Ancients, they fled to Earth, Black Arms sent The End after them."

I still HATE this retcon. There is no conceivable way that regular, mortal beings were able to create stones with limitless energy, and nigh limitless abilities (to the point that having all 7 could let people overpower the literal deities of Sonic's universe). Nevermind their role in the Gaia Cycle, and the fact that they can be RECHARGED by the Earth. It's just nonsense. Not to mention, yes, they of ALL people should know about the abilities of Chaos Emeralds, yet their understanding of them is less than even Sonic. Ironically, them only knowing how to use the stones to power their machines makes them closer to Eggman than anyone else, lol.

​@@DLxxx Not saying I agree with that Ret, just trying to make sense of it. Maybe they didn't *Create* the Emeralds but instead found them, and completely disregarded their Abilities out of Negligence. Seemed to me like they only cared about their own survival and saw the Emeralds as a Fuel Source more than anything. I personally would just sum up the Gaia Cycle as the Emeralds' ability to React with the Life Force of whatever planet they're currently on. (Also why not just use the Master Emerald to negate Dark Gaia and fix the planet? Save yourself a Headache and rely on your friends more, Sonic.)

I feel like part of the reason we don't see Chaos Control much now is because SEGA doesn't want every conflict to be solved with "get the 7 Chaos Emeralds and go Super".

According to old chaos emerald lore, chaos emeralds are powered by emotions/feelings. So technically Shadow using Maria to power his chaos abilities

Spoilers for "The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog" below I think that the power to invoke Chaos Control without an emerald may have been the case at one point in time but has since been retconned. During "The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog" you discover a *bomb* at one point. The player has the ability to suggest that someone "use chaos control to teleport [the bomb] away." At which point one of your party members explicitly states that "We'd need a chaos emerald to do that."

To be fair, most of the characters who chaos control without an emerald are implied to already have some kind of chaos energy in them, and none of those characters are there at that moment (unless the TMoStH protag is secretly the most powerful being in the entire sonic franchise).

In Sonic Adventure, Tikal says "Chaos is power enriched by the heart". So yes, chaos emeralds are powered by the heart.

I love to see Sonic Battle being referenced and acknowledged. Such a fun and underrated game

a recent IDW Sonic issue implies that Sonic is still able to use Chaos Control. the same comic also explains that the user of Chaos Control does not need to be in direct possession of a chaos emerald if there is enough radiant chaos energy in the area.

I can confirm having enough energy is enough to power the usage of chaos control. I should know I downed 3 Monster Energy drinks and time felt like it was standing still. (this is a joke don't do that)

about the "they don't use chaos control has much as before" i refuse to think that the parry against KNIGHT in Sonic Frontiers isn't a warp made by using Chaos Control I am making this canon in a way or another

You can tell that the Adventure Era games and early dark era Sonic games were trying really hard to show progression in abilities. In Sonic 3K all playable characters had a super form and Sonic even had a Hyper version. SA2, being the "last" true Sonic game, demonstrates so much character progression, in both abilities and arcs.

I love how chaos control is antithetical to the way Sonic operates. His whole thing is going fast (gotta go fast!) purely via his own effort and ability. Chaos control on the other hand allows you to *instantly* move to another location, and it requires one to have a chaos emerald in their possession in order to use its power. It's both a counter to his speed (as evidenced by his first interaction with Shadow) and also works well narratively as a counter to him as a person (or, uh, hedgehog, as the case may be). I'm actually a bit sad that they didn't make more use of this in his banter with Shadow in SA2. Imagine the meeting in the jungle, except when Shadow is saying all the "you're not even good enough to be my fake" stuff, Sonic could retort by ridiculing him for needing to use chaos control to keep up with him. It'd also give a great in-universe explanation for why Shadow doesn't use chaos control in that fight, as Sonic has cleverly baited him into trying to prove he can keep up with him without using it, relying on Shadow's ego and obsession with proving he's the ultimate life form. (Of course, I'm not saying Sonic is completely against using the power of the emeralds, just that he uses them as a sort of last resort, and is still confident in his abilities such that he's able to accomplish the vast majority of what he does without them.)

Shadow’s inhibitor ring armlets are basically proof he is capable of chaos control feats. In 06 in his final boss fight when he removes the inhibitors it allows him to essentially chaos control through the Memphis Tennessee clones. Im in belief he doesn’t need an emerald.

There probably isn’t a specific small detail about sonic you won’t cover, love to see it!

what i think happens is that everybody has some innate chaos energy like ki in dragon ball shadow just happens to have a natural affinity to his chaos energy i think that's what fuels silvers Psychokinesis sonic's super speed and shadow's miriade of abilities

I like to think that Knuckles is definitely capable of Chaos Control and other Chaos energy abilities, he just chooses not to and decides to use only his own strength.

If you want to get technical, a variation of Chaos Control does appear as one of Bean’s special moves if you’re using a Chaos Emerald.

I say yes it is possible with Rings. In the Comics it's stated that Rings themselves hold a finite amount of Energy that can be harnessed similar to Chaos Emeralds. The Super Form even uses Rings as a timer after initial transformation further proving this.

I think of it this way: Shadow's body has been exposed to the energy SO MUCH that it is now inside of him, giving him the ability the use Chaos Control without it. This isn't even the first time we have seen it. Perfect Chaos drained all the energy from the emeralds to the fact that it did not need to consume it to become more powerful, therefore spitting the powerless emeralds out. That could explain why Shadow did not need the Chaos emeralds after Emerl took them. Because he has already drained a lot of the energy to the fact that he did not need it for a short amount of time. This could also be why Sonic's eyes are Green. In 3&k, Super Sonic's eyes become green from the energy of the Chaos Emeralds, but after a while, Sonic's eyes eventually became permanently green due to the exposure to the Emeralds' power.

This title alone got me interested. Definitely watching this properly later.

It’d be so cool if there was a game that actually took a deep dive on the chaos energy lore and then also explained the inhibitor rings because the games specifically never mention why Shadow bothers to wear them if he’s stronger without them. At least Sonic X provided their own explanation, but the games can’t just assume everyone watched it. And then what’s the difference between taking off one, or two, or all four

It really does seem to be a blank check after SONIC ADVANCE 3- where one single emerald warped ALL of reality and space time- showing there is no limit and if you're good enough, one emerald can do everything. Thus, i don't expect things like time travel to really require 2 people, etc- not when the power coming off of them is doing stuff like that with a single emerald I like how someone called out in SA2, only Sonic and Shadow's 'time stops' stop the ingame timer, i thought no one else noticed that

STRONG headcanon that Rings are physical manifestations of Chaos Energy. Chaos Energy appears to move in circles. Examples: - Special Zones moving spinning or being in the shape of a giant sphere with balls - The emeralds floating in circles - The cyclical nature of collecting the emeralds, using them, and then finding them again - the world being full of loops, which are likely caused by Chaos energy So it would make sense that they’d be ring-shaped

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure Shadow was made using the chaos emeralds, giving him some of their energy and the ability to use chaos control on a smaller scale. But the energy is too much for his body to handle, which is why he wears the inhibitor rings.
