The Excavation Process: How We Excavate
This video features discussion of the kinds of tools used to excavate at the Cooper's Ferry site. Also, the effect of animal burrowing on archeological deposits and how they are handled during the excavation process is discussed. The infilled tunnels left behind by burrowing animals are called krotovina (sounds like crow-toe-vee-na).

When you're talking about archaeology, the most important tool you saw was the trowel he was using. Specifically it was a marshalltown, considered by most american archaeologists to be the gold standard and, in fact, a status symbol in the field. Those can be purchased online, or in stores like rural king.
Great video on pretty basic archaeology methods.

The city of San Francisco has a law that whenever a building is torn down before construction of the new commences, all work stops & the contractor has to notify University of California & they send in a team & do a historic excavation of the site as SF is history rich. !
Wow that’s amazing
What happens when they dig past the rodent burrows? Just curious this is very interesting

The first rule of treasure hunting is 1 inch depth = 10 years of history. + / - depending on the soil. What is your experience with this equation?

The tools you are using are wrong, the trowel is not the right one.
