Scotland History Tours is here for people who want to learn about Scottish history and get ideas for Scottish history tours. I try to make videos which tell you tales from Scotland's past and give you information about key dates in Scottish history and historical places to visit in Scotland. Not all videos are tales from Scotland's history, some of them are about men from Scotland's past or women from Scotland's past. Basically the people who made Scotland. From April 2020 onward I've tried to give ideas for historic days out in Scotland. Essentially these are days out in Scotland for adults who are interested in historical places to visit in Scotland.
As a Scottish history tour guide people ask: Help me plan a Scottish holiday, or help me plan a Scottish vacation if your from the US. So I've tried to give a bit of history, but some places of interest in Scotland as well.

OK guys, so that I don't have to keep repeating this the audio files from my lapel mic in this video got corrupted. This meant that we had to use the audio from the camera. Yes it's crap, we know it's crap. I apologise. Find out more on James and his relationship with the Gaels at kzread.info/dash/bejne/jKaml81sirquZc4.html The audio is better on that😎

Well, what about it!! A bit of wind interference in a wild and windy location is sometimes fairly unavoidable. I've been amazed a few times on your videos with your hair blowing around in the breeze but not a bit of interference windwise, on the audio, which lav mics you actually use?

The locations and scenery shots make the difference from those history channels that rely on stock footage and photos. Your personality, the scenery behind you, and your local interactions are important.

@@maximum-conatus We know next to nothing about the Druids. Pre-Christian Scotland had its own local priest-kings, the Mormaers, but the ancient records of Scotland were carried off and lost in the sea by English invaders, so we know nothing about them either. Christian monks did not preserve much about those they combatted.
10. Actual locations always bring history to life, even if they don't look exactly the way they did at the time. It's also nice to see the geography of a location to understand why and how people made the decisions they did. Love these videos!

I love the scenery, at least an 8 out of 10. It helps to provide context and show the desolate environmental conditions or types of houses involved with many of the stories.
You bring a smile and even make me laugh (Hotel California!) even with the most serious of topics! Thank you Bruce I continue to look forward to each of you videos. And yes the locations make the stories all the more vivid.

I love location sites! I know it’s expensive to travel so photos work for presentations too. I’m grateful for what you can present! I loved this clansmen topic as my paternal side is MacGowan and I would love to hear more of them and the Campbell clan! You know the irony is my mother is from the R De Brus and my father as stated above. Even though they were an ocean apart, they managed to find each other’s genetics enticing enough to make me. Hurrah! So what every you would share, I’m hungry to dine at the table du history! Best wishes Bruce to you and yours!
Great video. Personally I think the scenery and “on location” aspect of the video is very important, and one of the best aspects of the channel. Most of these histories I could read in a book, but I come to this channel because I love hearing about them from a real life flesh and blood person with a real personality, filming at or as close as possible to the actual locations these things took place. That’s what sets this channel apart!
10/10 for the locations! I love how you tell us a story and incorporate the locations to show where these historical events occurred. Please keep doing them - they're magnificent.
I watch you for the history & stories, but yes I absolutely love being able to see the locations as you talk about them.
Thanks for the question, Bruce. I never get tired of seeing Scotland, but I tune in mainly for your perspective and the history lesson. Stand anywhere you like.
Such an informative channel, thank you so much! Also as a Scot in exile I love watching your channel as it’s like I am standing with you at hame! Keep up the good work Brucy!
Sad story but wonderful scenery. Love your insights into Scottish history, Bruce.
These fabulous videos and Facts should be on mainstream TV. Excellent. 5 star.
10 out of 10 for using the scenery. It helps to put the history into perspective. Keep up with the great videos.
I love seeing the locations - it helps to "picture" it, even if it's not like it was back then. I also understand that traveling, and the price of petrol, is something to take into account, also. I enjoy these videos - they teach without sounding dry! Thank you.
Just finished week two of the Future Learn course on the clans and their decline, it’s absolutely fascinating and I can highly recommend. Yes, I believe location is extremely important for your videos as it gives much more context to just your, always excellent, narrative and gives a sense of being there and place 😊
The drone shots are amazing! I can see that appealing to quite a wide audience. The scenery is truly lovely, but I am happy just seeing you at historic places telling their tales, too. 😃
I do love the locations. I love seeing where my ancestors were, where they lived and what they had left behind
To answer your question about the importance of seeing the locations, I give it a 10. Love to see these beautiful places, and for me it really helps. Thank you👍❤️
I love the scenery it adds so much to the story
Your locations help you tell your stories. I love listening to the history, the way you tell it, where you tell it. Love your channel 🏴♥️🏴♥️🏴
Your historic locations add much beauty and authenticity to your videos. I give them 10. This is also the only way I will ever see dome of them even on my trips to Scotland. Keep up the good work.
I love that you go to actual locations, it helps bring these stories to life!
I enjoy your way of story telling. The different locations help bring the stories to life.
The beautiful locations you share with us make the history of which you speak come to life! I’m already planning my first trip!
Dear Bruce. 10/10 for scenery! I am so looking forward to seeing those beautiful places for myself.
Bruce! A lovely story about YOU from the USA... I was walking into a TRACTOR SUPPLY store in Oklahoma City, wearing my "Tha mi an dochas gum bl latha math lelbh - Tioraldh an-drasda" hoodie from the STORE of Scotland History tours when a woman (named Mary from Phoenix, Arizona - go figure) stopped me outside, pointed to the blue hoodie and said, 'Oh, is that Irish?' No, ma'am, it's Scottish Gaelic. 'What does it mean?' (So I told her ... state secret and all that), THEN SHE ASKED ME, 'Do you watch that man on KZread who has the dreadlocks?' BRUCE FUMMEY? said I. 'Oh, yes, he has that History Tour site, VERY GOOD - he is so VERY good!' WHY YES, that's where I got this hoodie and I am a very big fan of his, long-time, he is just terrific! ... So then she goes into a spot-on imitation of you doing a Mary, Queen of Scots monologue and singing, 'There May Be Trouble Ahead' ... I was doubled over laughing. It was a 10 minute exchange, DELIGHTFUL, and phenomenal to know how many lives - ALL OVER THE PLANET - that you are touching. 100,000 subscribers, indeed. SO VERY PROUD OF YOU, KID. YOU GO, GUY! 💙
Locations are a big part of bringing these stories of history to life
The last law that King James VI passed in Edinburgh before he went to London in 1603 was the proscription of Clan Gregor. Instantly all who bore the name MacGregor were declared nameless, landless and stateless. Any MacGregor clansman who refused to take different surname were hunted like animals using hounds to sniff them out of their hiding place, when caught they were hung or beheaded. Those who killed a MacGregor were rewarded finacially by the state. MacGregor women were rounded up like animals, branded on their face to identify that they were a MacGregor and they were sold sold into slavery to labour for the rest of their lives in the British colonies. MacGregor children were offered for adoption by families wirh any name but MacGregor. The proscription was finally abolished by King George III in 1774 and all MacGregor's were at last given the same rights as any other British citizen. King James VI was guilty of genocide by singling out Clan Gregor to endure draconian measures as a warning to the other clans of what would happen if they ever got out of line. King James VI tried to make out that he was a good Christian by having his version of the Holy Bible translated into English, he was no Christian, in reality he was the Devil's advocate. If James had managed to annihilate Clan Gregor, I wouldn't be here today, I hope he rotted in hell for what he made my ancestors suffer for 171 years.

Filming in location does help to bring the stories to life and the scenery is very lovely, even if the rain likes to photobomb on a regular basis.
I'd give the scenery and locations a 8 out of 10. In many cases it adds to your great storytelling.

Theo only story that kind of confirmed our heritage was the one of Iona and devotion to that abbey. There were even some songs about it. But oceans and eons apart was enough to forget. No wonder that Appalachian folk hate the government. It is in their DNA. Literally.

10, the scenery is stunning and it's good to see where the history took place.
My ancestors were from the Hebrides and mainland Scotland, love the series.
10, sir! I love the locations! A country as beautiful as Scotland can never get enough camera time!
I love the scenery! As an american-hebredian diaspora my heart longs for home. I love getting to see the places of my ancestors from an on the ground view. It’s like I’m there and I deeply love it. I love this channel so much! You’re the main conduit for everything I’ve learned about my ancestry. Much love 💕 Otherwise the only views I can get of home is drone footage, which is pretty but I like to imagine myself there on the ground :P
Have travelled a fair wee bit in Scotland and Ireland, most important to include locations. Thanks Bruce.
I'm enjoying everything about your channel. As a person with dyslexia my experience with the US educational system had a lot to be desired. I luckily had teachers along the way that cared. Later in life I discovered that I wasn't obligated to 'the system '. My life is my responsibility as well as my happiness. Books became the door to unlock knowledge and people like yourself are the vessels in navigating that knowledge. On a scale of 1-10, I pick 10 for visiting the locations you talk about. I'm definitely going to become a Patreon so that you can continue your work. Thank you!
Personal comment of Laura Botten: I listen while I work, but I do love the scenery. I always love best the buildings and artifacts! I can't get there myself yet, but one day.... By the way, Grandma Bell brought Highland Hospitality Culture to Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada (late-1800s) as the Bell farmhouse was known as the place to stop on journeys. One night they had the competing MP candidates sharing the bed in the spare room and the incumbent, Nicolas Flood Davin, snoring in the parlor. Scared Grandma witless when she arrived home late! There was always a guiding lamp set in a high window to guide folks.
I love the locations captured in your videos, particularly the West Coast and the Hebrides. Takes me back to numerous trips by car and motorcycle in my youth. Thank you.

Yes I do enjoy the scenery and your visits to specific locations
Love the locations, add context and, often, beauty
I've got to say, Bruce, that the settings are far more intriguing and pleasant than your dining room. That said, I'm sure RoomRater would give your dining room at least an 8. Lots of tchotchkes to peruse while you're talking. You just need to add a guitar hanging on the wall or on a floor stand. It doesn't matter if you ever play it or not. And congrats on your silver "Play" button. It seems not that long ago that you cracked the 2K threshold. It's your thought provoking, enlightened, and socially sensitive commentary that makes your videos special. Along with the fantastic scenery, of course. Keep up the great work. I'll be joining your Patreon supporters today. Best wishes for your continued success, Kevin in Pittsburra.

the scenery is an added bonus, if its just you telling a story in your kitchen i would still enjoy it.
I was wondering about this, when I read about it- thank you for adding so much info to the little bit that I had... And, yes- the landscapes are stunning, & we love to see it!
As an American who has been to Scotland a few times, I find the history to be fascinating, and the scenery is splendid. I doubt many followers would be happy with listening to you while you sat in a chair in a library. The land is a large part of the story, and I appreciate you taking us along for the tale.
yes, i like to see the scenery as well as hear your teachings :)
I love the location you go to in and around Scotland. I been before but it was as a kid and it still has that beauty it had then
tha weather as You are speaking ... tha lands , locations and descriptions about how a specific area has changed since tha years of when a particular story You are telling happened , all help to emphasize tha history You share Slainte
I love seeing the scenery of these places as you talk about their history, especially places I’ve heard of already. For instance, Iona - I know of the monastery founded by St Columba, seen pictures of the transcendently beautiful illuminated manuscripts created there - but had no idea what the island itself looked like. It adds another dimension to the story you are telling.
Amazing sceneries, really enjoy them. They also adds a lot of flavour to the stories (not mentioning making me want to visit Scotland again).

I enjoy the location scenes. They add context that you don't get elsewhere. Having a video of the battlefield & locale sure beats photos & maps with circles & arrows, for instance. Makes dry history seem more real & alive, & your personality & passion does the rest. Keeps me coming back for more. I could've passed my history courses in skool! Don't worry about the audio---we just had to pay even closer attention....
seeing the scenery is helpful to the story...
