I purchased one with only the convenience package and a couple of the “cheaper” options for $39,500. It still looks great and drives and handles fantastic. I’d buy as close to “base” as possible for a true value. Excellent review. There’s nothing else like this in the luxury coupe class at this price point. BMW has hit a home run with this 230i.

I’m seventy years old. I just purchased my 2023 230.i a week ago. Now when I walk out to the garage I have a purpose. Best 45K purchase ever after owning six 5 Series sedans. We also own a new X3 which makes this possible.

Great review, I'm considering this in this grey with those 19" wheels- gorgeous. The only version in Canada is the xDrive which I can appreciate, it also gives a faster 0-60 time.

I like to think of the 230i as a premium version of a BRZ/GR86, RWD, 50/50 balanced chassis, and though not fastest in a straight line, excels in good old fashioned driving enjoyment. Great thing too is that you could argue it’s also a pretty decent commuter option being comfortable enough over less than ideal roads, refined interior, and delivering great fuel economy to boot!

It’s actually plenty quick in a straight line. Owned one for 6 months now and I’ve smoked a 2017 STI, 2020 Challenger RT hemi, 370z, and a WS6 trans Am. The 230i won’t light your pants on fire but it is still plenty quick in a straight line, however the handling is the main reason to get one. It is more like a not slow premium version of an 86 with usable back seats as long as all the passengers are under 5’8”

It took me some time but I actually do think the G42 looks rather 'manly' .. And I'd definitely choose the 230i over the M240 or M2 given the former is RWD and I dont think I'll need to constantly keep taking time off from work to get it serviced

I noticed that too! I seriously hope it’s a glitch too and not some decision by BMW to limit the handling goodies to the 240i models. The 240i would be amazing to own, but to me the 230i is perfect for the everyday drive and plenty fast when thrown around in canyon twisties. With the dynamic handling package and M Sport design setup, you’ve really got a great back-to-basics driver’s car setup in the 230i.

@@benwells2338 Unfortunately not a glitch. I just ordered one this week and the M Sport Trim is no longer available for the 2023 230i, let alone the dynamic handling package. The website builder will still add the M Sport if you choose the black wheels but it's a glitch, not possible at the factory anymore :(

Would you trade this for a new 2023 Mach 1? My dealer will give me $34k for my 230i, I paid $40k. So I’d need to,kick in an added $32k to get the new 23 Mach1. My 230is a base trim without the expensive options. The Mach1 MSRP is $64k.

Don’t know if you got your Mach 1, but… I just traded my 2021 Mustang convertible for this, I love the ride in the 230i. Sadly don’t miss my Mustang, and I thought I might regret the move.

I’m planning to buy either the 230i or the 240i. So I’m watching a lot of videos. And let me give you a suggestion: those flip flops are awful to see, and really give a bad impression. No serious car expert will never approach any car with flip flops. They are dangerous while driving, and the look of your toe… You should tidy up a bit.

What are you talking about. This is crazy. I know of quite a few automotive journalists who drive barefoot on the road. If this was at a racetrack I would agree but many purists enjoy the added feel of no shoes day to day. Have you ever worn driving shoes? They are made to feel like you're barefoot.

  • @liosandro

@@DriveThemAll First of all: I'm talking about the looks of your feet. The look of it is UGLY. If your scope is to look like someone who doesn't care about looking slightly professional, then you're right. Second: name those "automotive journalists" that usually drive barefoot. I want their channel named here. Actually: barefoot would even be acceptable, albeit stupid. Any issue you have needing to flee the car fast your feet are doomed. Never heard about "accidents?" They are, s the word says, "accidents" also known as "unplanned problems". You crash and there are glass shards: your feet are fucked. I know you think that feet are the last of your problem if you had an accident... I'm not talking about driving shoes (guess why professional drivers use it...) I'm talking about having a SOLE between the pedal and the foot. Sole=better grip. And I guess you'r not very good on manual, with a clutch... Try heel & toe without shoes, dude. Here is a useful list of why you're wrong: 1 The clutch may require heavy pressure to be applied especially if it’s an older car. 2 The class is relatively small pedal requiring drivers to exert a lot of pressure on the ball of their foot. The sole of a shoe distributes pressure evenly. 3 Repeated use of the clutch could end up being painful, causing cramp or other spasms in the foot and reducing the ability of the driver to effectively appropriate a vehicle. 4 Operating pedals with wet feet is dangerous as pedals can become slippery. 5 Your foot could slip off the pedal due to insufficient grip. 6 as I already told you, in the unfortunate event of a crash, appropriate shoes are likely to offer a reduction in foot injury. In cases of traffic crashes you may tread on broken glass and debris and sustain major injuries. But since you Americans are so good at driving, I leave you with your ideas. Luckily, you're far from my roads.

@@postalpancho because accidents only happen on track. Right… You obviously don’t even know how to drive. Try heel and toe without shoes, on a 30 mins canyon drive… And this beside looking a minimum professional while presenting a car.

Ok, video is ok. With that said, the vertical kidney grills that adorn the M4 are more traditional than the type on this 230i. Learn your BMW history man. Two other items: Ditch the slide flip flops and stop the music on engine start up so we can hear the exhaust.

Do not buy the 230i fully equipped for the price of a base m240i, just buy the m240i instead. The 230i is a scam at this point
