    I'm German, but why do you claim that the english or western language has no word for a "singing storyteller/poet" to present "epics" to the people? A Bard - a poet, traditionally one reciting epics and associated with a particular oral tradition. A Minstrel -a medieval singer or musician, especially one who sang or recited lyric or heroic poetry to a musical accompaniment for the nobility. These words exist in the german language as well and a Skalde would be the viking version.
