I found that to be the best part about it. Like an old vintage sci fi movie.
I personally thought when she realized one of the trackers was close to her jugular she knew if she dug it out she’d die and that’s why she gave up. Despite the pain she was willing to cut them all out until she saw that one.
It always bothered me how it is shown that the robots are still vulnerable to bullets and yet they somehow took over the world.

honestly the one thing that really bugged me about the whole episode was that they *easily* could have made a teddy bear. Like, her coat has faux fur on it, but you can easily do it with cloth, hay/grass (let alone some other soft filling), and a little ingenuity and time to waste. If they were getting medicine it would have made sense, and now I get the metaphor, but STILL - you can make a decent teddy bear if you have time. They didn't exist for ages, and they weren't mass-produced until nearly the 1900s (but people had made similar things themselves, but again, not mass-produced - i.e. pretty much in the way I said)

I think the point was the survivors were acting illogically, emotionally, and without proper planning. The drone meanwhile operates by absolute logic and efficiency. It is merciless, impersonal, and best of all cost effective area denial. Analyze the way of thinking behind the decisions made-to go after a toy for a dying kid or to the thinking to make something like the Metalhead-which do you think is better?

That episode pissed me off. All those deaths for stupid toy they could make by their own 🫤
The bears were actually yellow, but because it was [shot] in black and white, they're white bears - I was happy with that being a little Easter egg. We went back and forth on what should be in that warehouse. Originally in the script, it just said “toys.” The idea was a box of toys for a dying child. - Charlie Brooker

@ghost mall It wouldn't be a Black Mirror episode without at least ONE major gut punch, I guess. XD But yeah, it was a real bummer. Then again, there were no humans in sight and the Earth was doomed. I'm pretty sure she wasn't going to get a happy ending regardless.
I think the ending was more like because the 'thing' got stucked on her neck, Bella probably need to cut her veins to remove that. But she actually doesn't know that those dogs are everywhere, hinting that even if she survived the first dog without getting 'that thing' stucked on her neck, she will still be dead in the end.
@charlybrown5264

I think she definitely knew what would happen with so many of them stuck in her, the time it would take to get them out, and then dispose of them. Evidenced by the fact that she knew to get the first one out of her leg immediately.... and probably because in this dystopia, people know how they behave.
This has to be one of the most chilling episodes of TV I've ever seen. The cold relentlessness of the dog reminded me of The Terminator but a lot bleeker because it had the sense that it's not that far fetched from reality.

This episode made me realize how the human being is so similar to the robot. The robot did anything it was programmed to do, whether it was morally good or bad. It made me realize how we can let ourselves be used easily by hostile “leaders” and how we can set aside our morals. It reminded me a lot of when the n4z1s used to excuse themselves by saying they were only following orders.
@saroushen

Meh, I think it's underrated for good reasons. It's just a generic horror story that doesn't bother to go anywhere. Can you spot any exposition within the episode? Because I can't. Black Mirror is a clever show, and they could've done better than this, in my opinion. I have seen short independent horror films that pack in more than this! All opinions aside, this is a very lazy episode of Black Mirror. You can't write a script and just let the audience do all of the hard work for you. What happened? Why are there robotic dogs everywhere? Why do they stick trackers in you? Who built them? Where is everyone else? Literally every question is left unanswered and that is unacceptable! Anyone can write a story without context and let the viewers do the work; adding in a clever twist is what was needed. I hate the "it was all a dream" cliché, but it would've been better.

I’m so glad you revisited and gave this episode a proper review! I know this episode gets a lot of hate, as the casual fan finds it boring, but it is honestly one of my favorites - definitely in my top 5 in the series. It’s frightening! And it’s not completely far fetched. I loved everything about the dogs though, from their similar Boston Dynamic design, to its POV, to the way it moves and sounds. The decision to shoot the episode in black and white was absolutely spot on. I read somewhere that Charlie originally wanted this episode to have no dialogue whatsoever, and while I think that’s an interesting idea, I’m glad it wasn’t the case. Also, the thought of the dogs being controlled by people - the idea being it was some old, evil, mega-rich weirdo living in seclusion on some island off the coast in a huge mansion-like compound, remote controlling the dogs. Again, an interesting concept... but overall, I like the ambiguity that the episode portrayed. I know it isn’t gonna happen, but I’d love to see a series / season following this episode. Just think The Walking Dead, sans the walkers and replaced with these dogs. Great video, as always dude 👍🏽

Has anyone else considered the possibility that the teddy bear in the ‘Metalhead’ episode of ‘Black Mirror’ might be more than just a simple toy? Specifically, could it be a receptacle for consciousness, similar to the bear in the ‘Black Museum’ episode? The idea struck me that the desperate quest for the teddy bears in ‘Metalhead’ could have a deeper meaning, possibly linked to preserving the mind of the dying child mentioned in the episode. This could create an intriguing thematic link between the two episodes. Thoughts?
The message of this episode reminds me of the short story, "I have no mouth, and I must scream"
Actually Bella and her crew was very foolish because as Spock said ....the needs of one never out weigh the many ...they were on a fools errand..for a bloody teddy...three died and nothing was accomplished...

I liked this episode as a proper "change of pace" for Black Mirror instead of the "happy" ones like San Junipero. It was black and white, and was more of a bottle episode where the connectivity of the other episodes did not apply, yet was still in the theme of being dark and technology run amok. Plus, the change of pace is felt in this being basically a chase Doing that theme would lead one to do a "end of the world" episode and this one I think fit nicely.
then what 95-DY42 mean? are all those boxes filled of teddy bear or just box 95-DY42?
Ok, so you can see some light in the deep darkness of this episode. It's just that this little glimmer of hope won't really change much. This whole episode is just comparing the final days of a dying child and the last few steps of humanity before the inevitable end. These robots feel no pity, no remorse, no fear. They will not stop until evey last human is dead. This episode is about as dark as it gets, so it makes sense why it's shot in black and white.
@dustinjones7458
2 жыл бұрын
What's dark is that the robot is almost certainly a drone. The technology doesnt seem so far advanced they could casually make an advanced AI for a replaceable, mass produced weapon and it was able to problem solve at a level beyond a simple point and shoot program. So there was probably a human operator somewhere behind it, guiding its actions, playing it like a videogame.

@@dustinjones7458 Yeah, that's also one possibility. Doesn't necessarily have to be a "Skynet" orchestrated genocide, when humans are perfectly capable of doing that on their own.
Never have I ever been more pissed at the protagonist. Like bloody hell they can make a teddy at home or just tell the kid that he can't have it given the risk. Moreover she took too long on the walkie talkie. But then of course it is more like a metaphor. But come on. Three lives lost for a toy? That's some expensive teddy
What happened to the videos for White Bear, Hang the DJ, and Men Against Fire?

I'm redoing some of those videos!
Wait, is that a redo from an original video?
Not even talking about BM: Bandersnatch, the Metal Hedd poster?
This is the most underrated & yet the scariest episode of the series. Idiots focus on the social credit etc episodes when the tech behind everything in this episode has been there since 2010.
Mmh, is it normal that there isn't a video about Shut Up and Dance ? It's, in my opinion, one of the most shocking and surprising BM episodes, since it's such a controversial subject. Hope to listen to your analysis on it soon !
The metal creatures make me think of the demodogs from Stranger Things
I think this is my least favorite episode. I'm not sure why.

Because it's just so foolish to try get the toys for a child with this danger. Other episodes have some logic.

I hope only of this fourth series and not Black Mirror as a whole. Shit like "Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too" is way dumber and messy.
To be honest this episode reminded me of the movie called 9.
I can’t understand this one,,,, what is the message of the end ?!
the madlad finally did it.
I thought this was the worst episode same thing with the Waldo. I immediately knew that I was not gonna enjoy this episode or that it was boring. I never hear anybody mention about this episode. I still watch it because I feel like that would be the shocking, plot twist
As a one off story this is nice simple one about survival and what humans will do to bring joy to each other in even a doomed world. My only flaw with it is that fact the dogs themselves while dangerous and could kill millions if they got near a high density area like a city, they would struggle to take out any main heavily armoured combat forces and air power, they only seem to have a powerful rifle/ shotgun like powered gun arm. maybe their are bigger tougher models out their and these are just scouts.
Metalhead had a horrible ending. If anything, it's an unintentional satire of unbridled suburban consumerism transcending through to the apocalypse it likely caused. It's about a "parent" who can't say no to their "kid" about getting a toy -- so a whole bunch of people have to die to get it.

The kid was dying. That last, pathetic act of mercy and kindness was all they had left to give. Sometimes I think the world is divided between people who understand why you'd do that and people who would operate metal head drones for a paycheck.

@@dustinjones7458 "Sometimes I think the world is divided between people who understand why you'd do that and people who would operate metal head drones for a paycheck." Okay, because only those two options could possibly exist. There couldn't possibly be the option of comforting the kid in some other way and not risking your life, especially as it was an obvious suicide mission. Furthermore, there's nothing indicating they are operated drones. Also, having everyone die to the metalhead robots for a teddy bear is still dumb, even if it is for a dying kid. You're right; there are two types of people in the world: Naive idealists who think the ends justify any means if it "feels right", regardless of whether those ends are correct or even attainable (e.g. communists). Then there are people who have a balanced sense of judgement and don't act purely on the emotion to throw everything away to make some useless point or satisfy some pointless sentimentality. The kid is dying and you're going to kill three people to give that kid a teddy bear? Hence you've already resigned yourself to the fate that all is lost, because that is the only way to justify such a fruitless suicide mission. There are two types of people: Those with hope and those without it. The only implication that living and resisting is pointless in the Metalhead world, is the characters' willingness to sacrifice themselves for trivialities. They have lost all hope, while no reality in life implies hopelessness; it is a choice to lose hope. Just ask Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn.

You missed a chance to link bears and hibernation
The bear pun tho
I laughed very hard when the dog picked up the knife.
This was a terrific episode. I would have liked the heroine to have achieved a small degree of success after her strife. Also, showing us the teddy bears in the box spols it slightly too.

I'd say it was one of those things where the effort counts more than the outcome. Metalhead shows humanity at two extremes-the empathy of someone risking their life to bring comfort to a dying child vs the sort of people who'd construct this impersonal horror drone as a weapon of war. I mean, would you want to be the one going for the bear-or the one operating the drone?

@@Foxtrot369 Sure, believe whatever helps you sleep at night. The Drone acted in manner indicating not only intelligence and problem solving, but actual understanding of human behavior. Occams razor is that rather than programming that into a robot, you simply pay some kid college to tuition to 'play videogames' and outsource the violence from a cheerful dissociation of blame. Which is what is happening Right now. In the real world. Today.
