The reason people think that way is because 1. God doesn't give us straight answers in that way. 2. The scripture seems like it is literal.

I read Lindsey's book in the 80's. I enjoyed it but I was indifferent. I wasn't saved until the mid 90's and then in a Pentacostal church. I really learned a lot from the Pastor's sermons but I was silently skeptical about so-called tongues and prophecy. I read every book of the Left Behind series as they came out so I guess at that time I was pre-millenial. Now? I left that church about 15 years ago. I've read a lot of MacArthur and Sproul, as well as Paul Washer. Then I came across James White, Doug Wilson and, drum roll, Gary DeMar. Now? I don't know. I lean towards DeMar's position, but I'm not sure. It makes for VERY interesting discussion, provided we approach such with grace. Too many don't. For the post-millenial position, I think it mainly boils down to when Revelation was written. Still, so many get so wrapped up in Revelation that they forget the Gospel! I'm concentrating on growing in His Word. Every time I read I discover something new! Talk about a blessing!

what a great assessment! Thank you for sharing that. I hear that a lot. People come to faith in Christ in a pentecostal church, stay for a season and then go deeper. I have yet to go to a pentecostal church, though went to something called the Santa Rosa Fire in 2012 with my father in law (in northern California) and you guessed it, despite being California it had nothing to do with Forest fires. lol It was a lot of hog-wash. I did hear 'tongues' but nothing that was biblical. Lots of politics and Obama this and that. Anyway, I want to say that I am in a similar boat, though I am guessing we are different in age by a some time. I was default Pre mill rapture dispensationalist . that's the standard American view. That's all what LEFT BEHIND is. Israel 1948, Jews in their land, Russia, Iran, wars, bar codes, etc Yet I think it boils down to when Rev was written. I have always been taught that it as 90 AD or so. However in listening to a post-mil guy a couple years ago talking about various subjects. He wasn't even talking about Rev the book I don't believe, but I was just working and listening and came to ask myself. WHAT IF REV WAS WRITTEN BEFORE 70 AD? That solves a lot of 'problems' with 3rd temple, sabbath, sacrifices, armies around Jerusalem etc.

Question: so in this postmillenial view… and maybe you covered it in the video I watched it a week ago… but the return of Christ if we were to describe it is it as a roaring Lion with garments covered in the blood of His enemies or is it more like a Hallmark Movie with everything fine & dandy? Postmil view paints a radical different view than the pre-mil view is what I’m getting at. I don’t think they could be more diametrically opposed in that pre-mil generally would say the darkest days of the history of the world are poured out. Massive evil. Billions upon billions of people dead. Darkness consuming the earth & Jesus Christ radically breaking into the scene as a roaring Lion whose garments are covered in the blood of His enemies & He is coming to conquer and to damn having poured out His wrath upon billions of people. Whereas the Postmil view would generally say no… the lightest days are present. It’s never been better or more righteous on earth except before the fall perhaps. I think you can see how they paint radically different pictures. Whereas Post-mil presents more of a radically Christianized earth. And from what I’ve heard, maybe I’m wrong Post-mil folks don’t believe Christ will be covered in the blood of His enemies. There are none. (That’s a bit hyperbolic) but there is a dynamic contrast in 2nd comings. 1st coming Christ is covered in His own blood as the Lamb. 2nd coming Christ comes as a roaring zluon not covered in His own blood but the blood of his enemies. 1st coming Of Christ was humble… revealed to the nobodies the shepherds. 2nd coming under pre-mil Every eye, of every person cannot deny this 2nd coming. It’s not humble it’s in your face. But back to my question. The 2nd coming of Jesus Christ under the Post-mill view would be described as_____________?

OK. I've got some time. :) First of all, thank you for asking and pushing back a bit. That's always good. It only helps argumentation. I am not a post-mill per say, but I am certainly not PAN-mill or pre-mill dispensational either. I used to be both. A few reasons I am neither is that too many times people in the latter camp look at the world and headlines and "predict" things and assume the worse. Yet, they have always been wrong. "this guy is the anti-Christ", "no, no, it's that Guy" It's Obama, no it's the pope. Further still the prophecy of many does not add up. Some act as though Jesus could come at any point. Yet, the establishment of Israel as a nation is seen as a fulfillment of prophecy. Which is it? Nothing needs to happen before Jesus returns or raptures his church? Or other things need to happen? Further, the lack of words like rapture, anti-Christ and things like these are absent from the most crucial places. First john says anti-Christ is NOW. HERE. There is no mention of anti christ in Revelation. Super not good for the dispensational view as John wrote about anti Christs in first John. Further still is the jockeying of passages like Matthew 24. THIS GENERATION. Means that generation EVERY PLACE in the bible. WELL...except in Matthew 24. No. That does not add up either. Plus it's very new as a view. Contrary to what many have said, and tried to make the church fathers say, it's new within the last 120 years or so. Further still you look at passages like Hebrews that says, IN THESE LAST DAYS HE HAS SPOKEN TO US BY HIS SON. Last days? That was nearly 2000 years ago. Yes last days of the old covenant, the old dispensation. God clearly gave 40 years many places in the bible. Why not also between the resurrection of the Lord and the destruction of the temple? Seeing the book of Revelation as being written to in 90s but the late 60s also fits much more. The 7 churches were real churches. Not ages. Just because "the church" is not mentioned past this point in that book does not mean she is raptured. Further, the 1000 years of Christ is a long time. Could it be literally 1000 years. Maybe. But does God ONLY own the cattle on 1000 hills, not 1007 or 10,231 or does it mean all the hills? Or is one day, really like 1000 years to God and 1000 years like 1 day? We are TOO LITERAL in the west and often it gets us into trouble. I would encourage you to read more of DeMar and others on the American Vision website. Doug Wilson, James White and Jeff Durbin really have some good resources. DeMar has been doing work on this for 30 plus years and has loads of videos and debates and books. Overall I lean far more towards this because the Kingdom of God IS AT HAND, Jesus said. This is the only true optimistic view of the world. And truthfully the church has retreated into hiding thinking the Antichrist is just right around the corner, "what's the point" why go on? Why have children? Why built? That is the wrong attitude and frankly it's sinful. But too many milquetoast Christians have been fed lies that being lazy is just fine with the Lord.

@@Richardcontramundum I like Steve Lawson’s handling End times theology out of the Oliver discourse. He advocates for what I think is the right position and biblical position that there is basically a “shadow” or double fulfillment once in 70 AD but ultimately in the future during the return of Christ. There are weakness I think with asserting that everything or almost everything was fulfilled in 70 AD. Steve Lawson I think legitimately punched holes in that. I also think there are holes in saying nothing occurred in 70 AD. Steve Lawson asserts that many times in scriptures there is a near fulfillment of prophecy and then a distant, far off more “full” fulfillment of the prophecy, But again just to hold post-mills feet to the fire I think their glaring weakness is the assertion that Jesus Christ comes to the most peaceful, brightest days on earth. Everything has never been better. Rainbow sunshine and butterflies. Not billions dead… billions born again and Christianity the overwhelmingly dominant force in the world. No mass apostasy but a mass revival. That is a radically different view than the pre-mil view saying the darkest days didn’t happen in 70 AD… they happen before the return of Christ. Billions dead, the entire universe is radically shaken & Jesus Christ comes back as a roaring Lion not covered in His own blood but the blood of His enemies. There has been a mass apostasy (the apostasy) and in the premil view also a revival of souls as the Gospel is preached to all nations… so a revival in the midst of they apostasy. But again I just don’t find the peacefulbrightest days ever, rainbow, butterflies and sunshine return of Christ very compelling in fact I think it is Biblically the weakest aspect of Postmil. I think Spurgeon also rejected that view and believes it would require the physical return of Christ not just Him on the throne in heaven.

@@MontanaViking well there's no real way to test the double fulfillment. Sure the gospels had some prophecy from the Psalms or Isaiah that in their original context in the OT really did refer to someone or something. But then have a full fulfillment in Jesus. But that's the inspired writer. Lawson is not of course. Further I would not say either way at this moment if any post millennial guys believe in a happy puppies and rainbow sort of thing. I know you're being sarcastic and that's ok I guess. But from the hours of reading and listening no one has talked like that. I'd encourage you to fig deeper. It really is the only optimistic view. Further it makes you plan for the future. I'll leave it at this. There are more christians, more churches, more christian websites, blogs, videos, radio station, more bibles in more languages and more of everything then there ever has been. If that's not optimistic and dominion legacy building the kingdom of God I don't know what it. (I don't disagree that Jesus will come and destroy his enemies and have blood on his garments etc.)

@@Richardcontramundum see if I remember right though I think I heard a theologian present the 3 views and said post-millennialists don’t actually believe in Jesus Christ coming with His garments covered in His enemies blood. He presented it as though they spiritualized it but don’t literally believe it… maybe some post-mil guys think that’s figuratively and others think it’s literal but I think that’s another area of contention because just as Jesus Christ was covered in His own blood at His first coming… I believe His garments will have the blood of His enemies at the 2nd coming and from what I’ve heard Post-mils don’t believe that is literal.

Well I'm sorry you're discouraged. However some better perspective is that it's been the end times/last days since Jesus rose from the dead. Hebrews 1 We must cling to the Lord and work for him now. He could have already come back but desires people to come to him for salvation and grace
