Love this new version. They basically "increased the scope" in every aspect pretty much, instead of just making more of the same, which would have been great as well. This demo does seem to showcase what the game will be like pretty well. But as always, looking fw to your gameplay fo the real deal when it comes out. I already wanted it and this just made me want it more! Great work as always, keep up the good work Darren :) PS: Also those damn Icebloods, always bitchin and throwing tantrums if things don't go their way... , while the technocrats are more txill and reasonable

This was really enjoyable. I am looking forward to seeing more after release. Its also interesting to see, how the moderate factions slowly bleed members to the radical Icebloods and Technocrats.

I would love to see a playthrough of this game honestly. I first discovered Frostpunk when you released the first video in this series and it is easily my favorite game by far now! One thing I kept thinking while watching you play this though is if you did a short video on what it was like to fail, as I haven't seen much on what that specifically is like aside from the tidbits they have in trailers and stuff.

The thing you're missing with the Icebloods and their objection to machines working for them, is this game is based on the Victorian era... the industrial revolution wasn't all good. In the Victorian era, the working classes worked to live. When the mechanisation of the work force came in, it threatened that. By making workforces more efficient, you took away abilities to work and with that, abilities to feed families. So in turn, it increased poverty and widened the gulf between the elites and the poor. This is what the game is trying to show. Hence machines being more important than humans.

Hmm I kinda reject that notion though for this particular scenario - its not like people are being paid less, or we have unemployment. In a survival situation this really does seem like it would only make life easier. People were saying we didnt have enough workforce, and this is a solution to that. I personally dont think this was a reference to the industrial revolution, this seems more in line with automation and reads more like current day politics regarding AI. Nobody batted an eye at the automotons in the first game, or passing laws for massed produced goods… maybe Im wrong though. Either way I feel like the law was missing descriptions about how people arent allowed to turn off the machines at all and stuff like that.

@@WhatDarrenPlays I think you're largely right about Icebloods and Technocrats, or Adaptation and machines, not lining up with victorian era thought, but I don't think it lines up with the modern day either. The Icebloods are about having humans adapt themselves becoming fitter and stronger, maybe like those paleo kinda guys, where the MAchinists and Technocrats are inclined more toward having machines be the way the City adapts to world. I think, don't have much insight into this.

@WhatDarrenPlays working means warmth, given most machines give off heat, so fits with the whole frostpunk theme. The technocrats to me seem to represent the mill owners of the victorian era, so they care more for their machines/profit rather than the people they're replacing. I do agree it overlaps with modern themes too, but given the victorian aesthetics of the game, I'm more inclined to see the industrial revolution themes. You're probably right too, the game needs to show why the opposition exists more so the exposition is clearer.

@@dominicpizzey1515 i think easier to far right first (iceblood and forager) because they can hunt food and resistant to cold and later make appeal to technocrat and machinist for research of tech (remember more peoples more resource will loss )

Actually based on the timeline, we should be in the early 19th century. Basically when radicalism became a major threat to the order of civilization.

There are few things to take into account. 30 years has passed: which means that the older generations are gone, and the ones who were in the productive age are no longer. The existential dread is gone, the sense of unity and cohesion is also gone. The memory of the past is mostly gone. Its not just a matter of power, ambition and prosperity - its the fact that now, people need to find meaning while paying their taxes or "contribute" Replacing them by machines effectively finish them off (how can they pay for anything too?) in the middle of renewal of existential crisis they're not equipped or trained to handle. In the middle of political strife too.
