The End of NJN - New Jersey Network signoff June 30th, 2011
After 40 years of service as the state of New Jersey's public television and radio network, the New Jersey Network (NJN) came to an end on June 30th, 2011 due to budget cuts by Governor Chris Christie. Here are the last few moments of the final NJN News broadcast. Then after NJN's final TV program ("Theatre Talk"), one last NJN News story is aired, followed by a farewell message just before midnight.
As of 12:00 AM on July 1st, 2011, the network became "NJTV", now under the ownership of New York City's PBS affiliate, Channel 13 WNET, which will be providing a limited schedule of 20 hours per week of New Jersey-specific programming on the former NJN TV stations.

I remember watching njn when I was visiting my uncle in NJ. Sitting on the black and white tiled kitchen floor with my strawberry shortcake blanket and building blocks. what a memory
1:20 check out that computer with Windows XP. Man it's been a while.
I used to watch NJN every day. I'm from NYC. Miss them.

I totally forgot about NJN! I'm from NY State and when I was a kid I'd visit my aunt and uncle in NJ.I remember seeing ads for this channel when I'd be watching TV.
I really miss NJN 😢. I used to watch it all the time when I was little 😪. I have cousins 😢, an aunt 😢, and an uncle 😢, who live in New Jersey 🇯🇪. When I 🤔 was 10 years old 😢, I always ♥ talked about NJN in school and I didn't knew what it stood for, so my teacher told me that it stood for New Jersey Network. I always used to watch NJN PBS Kids when I was little. Now I'm 24 years old and I still remember NJN. NJN may be gone from television forever, but it'll always be in our hearts.
NJN was my local PBS station growing up. I had no idea that they were gone, damn.
People will always refer to the stations as NJN/New Jersey Network regardless.
Idk why i all of a sudden decided to look this up at 11 at night but it's sad that NJN no longer exists under that name. I live in New York and would still watch it's programming from time to time no matter how scrambled the signal was. But i guess all good things come to an end. Thank You NJN for making my life and the lives of many others a little better. Good night sweet prince

Conservative politicians have always loathed public television, public education and any other service or entity that's too difficult to corrupt. New Jerseyans are twice-shamed, first for electing a wretch like Christie and second, for allowing their television network to be dismantled. In any event, a fond farewell to 23, 50, 52 and 58 and those quirky shows ("Dark Shadows," "Uncle Floyd," the "Flash Gordon" and "Buck Rogers" serials, "Dr. Who," etc.) that gave their program schedule such flair.

Ah, but it didn't have to be that way. Rudy Giuliani (before he went insane) privatized WNYC by giving the station's foundation an opportunity to buy it, keeping the management intact which eventually resulted in an NPR powerhouse free of direct city control. Christie could have given the NJN Foundation the same opportunity here, but he was more interested in eliminating a budget line quickly than making sure NJ was represented in media. Same sort of short-term thinking that led him to kill the ARC tunnel.

@@michaeldemenchuk6988 Very interesting! I remember when the New Jersey Network was sterilized and some of its most popular programs were dropped (heaven forbid the public be involved in public television). The purging was also illegal in that it occurred immediately after a pledge drive in which viewers were led to believe the doomed programs would remain (and thus, they should give generously).

I have no emotional attachment to New Jersey and I have never been there, and I have never heard of this network, but this is incredibly sad. Seeing this legacy channel that obviously cares about its viewers shut down in place of some new channel that probably cares way less.
"Goodbye farewell & amen to the new-jersey network we will miss you always & forever amen".
Sad to hear New Jersey Network is off the air due to Chris Christie.
it all went to Hell after they fired Uncle Floyd!
2:43 A.M. Cassandre designed the Peignot typeface during the Great Depression; it would be released in 1937. MTM Enterprises and Viacom have used the typeface at some point in their history. Nowadays the typeface is usually seen on slot machines in North America. Three television stations have used it for their logos in the past: WMBB (1987-1998), WXXA (1996-2019), WTKR (2002-2016). WDIV also used it for a campaign between 1994 and 2000, alongside WMC-TV for its news graphics between 1993-1995.

Long lslander here! NJN was one of the absolute best public television stations - I'd watch it just as much as I have with WNET and WLIW21 - heck, because it wasn't so homogenized with the other stations, it felt a lot more fresh. NJTV just... isn't the same :c

WLIW used to be independent too, the story goes they couldn't afford the upgrade to HD so WNET did the deed and swallowed them whole.
So. Much. Nostalgia. I miss Disney Channel so much! This reminds me of their grand goodbye!

2:07 the way she said it (NJN)
Supawna meadows is literally a minute drive from me. I walk by that barn all the time on the nature trail. I take the ferry from Fort mott state park to pea patch Island all the time. I remember seeing this the night njn closed. I miss njn. I miss recording red dwarf because I couldn't stay up to watch it.
I had a family member that worked at the station. I guess they needed a bunch of kids to come dance for the opening and closing credits for some show. I cannot remember what it was called but I remember my brothers and I went and danced. It was so very 1990s, complete with terrible hair and outfits. I think I did like the running man or Roger rabbit. LOL my brother's picture was hanging on the set behind the host for the duration of the show. I wish I knew what it was called! Anyway, I miss NJN...they gave me my 30 seconds of (regional) non-fame. I had so much fun! Did Chris Christie eat the network?
