I loved your take on Mallory and Jessica, there was definitely a void in the cast without the "Idiots!" or searching for gin. I enjoyed how Lana transitioned into the Mallory character through season 14, and seeing just how Mallory became the type of person that she was.

you said everything every good archer fan was thinking. first 4 seasons are gold, season 5-8 are fun, 9-12 were hard to get through but the final season/episodes were seriously great and a return to the first few seasons in spirit. no one could replace jessica and i'm glad they didn't try to, you could feel her absence but lana and archer really stepped up and the show bringing back katya and slater was great.

I haven't watched the finale yet, but while there were times throughout the show where I was rooting for archer and lana, I also increasingly felt that it wasn't 'their' story. If anything, malory was right when she said it was her and stirling's story, and so far while she is so missed in the later seasons, I have really enjoyed seeing him trying to figure out his life without her.

I always saw the trailers to this sho when I was watching tv as a teen. I never got into it because it reminded me of that one of the show that had the same art style and it was pretty trash. It wasn't until last year when I finally gave it a chance and god damn am I glad to have given it that. This show deserved and earned 14 seasons. Well written, well acted, had the elbow in it, properly adult yet not too up it's own ass, actually funny without feeling like it's in a time bubble, then has a finale that works in closing out the series in a good way and makes me feel melancholic for having to leave these people that I'm going to miss. I got back into Home Movies thanks to Archer's VA being Coach McGuirk even and it's way better as an adult. I thank the team and the website I watch my toons on for this show and your video for being the epilogue I needed. Fuckin Happy Next Year.

Excellent video as always dude! 👌Once again as you already know, I've never watched Archer (and yet I think Jon Benjamin is excellent, so between this and Bob's Burgers, it makes no sense) but I think it's wild that it lasted 14 years and was able to reinvent itself so much, it definitely seems like it has a pretty unique history. Maybe now that it's over I'll check it out one day!

Hi! Thanks for this newsy & So Accurate assessment! 57-y/o guy here, & I'm not sure if you're "getting" ALL of Archer...? It's loaded w/references to '70s movies & TV shows! Seasons 1-9 are the best (to me), b/c they capture these so well! I'm told Adam Reed was like that, however. Isis references "The Shazam-Isis Hour" ('73-4), & actor Michael Ray played Billy Batson (who becomes Cap'n Marvel). Babu was the name of a goofy genie in "Jeannie," a '73-4 cartoon (its opening credits are on YT, maybe some eps). The ocelot is a puzzle; I'm thinking it came from an earlier TV show called "Honey," based on a series of bks about a gal spy, who had one. S7 opens/ends w/Archer floating dead in a pool, a nod to the well-known film "Sunset Blvd." There's lots o' mention of "The Boys from Brazil," of course, & refs to "Planet of the Apes" ('68). When Pam whispers of Cheryl, "She doesn't remember any of it," it seemed like a line from "The Exorcist." S10, Archer: 1999, is a lift from a TV show titled "Space: 1999." There're also nods to "Charlie's Angels" in 1 season's ad breaks. S8 is a total nod to '40s detective stories (Phil Marlow & others, like The Big Sleep); it's a classic on its own! The show was just riddled w/refs to literature & otr shows. And it's funny! I laffed so hard at his baby's tattoo I blacked out! Woo-hoo! :-)

Lots of people seem upset archer and lana didn't end up together. Really? Archer has grown as a character in various ways but at no point did i think it was telegraphed that he would really go that way, and it isn't even really their story, it never has been. Malory was right when she said it was her and Archer's story, and him finding his own path in her absence seems like a satisfying resolution to me.

To be honest, I would have preferred the finale never happened. It was a severe disappointment. 1. They overdid it with bringing in every single character shoved in the last minute, in a very rushed fashion. 2. Archer just walking out on the family was ridiculous. He handled no longer being able to see his daughter like it was nothing big. 3. After all the work put into Archer and Lana finally being a couple, showing Archer even mature and grow during moments with Lana...they crapped on it. Just gone. 4. The random Barry-Katya sex scene was pointless. Crude and surprising in a bad way, I never found it "interesting". It was like they hurried to crap on a lot of stuff, gave very little to characters as a send off in their rush to shove as many as possible into the ending...and the ending just felt unsatisfying. Like someone promising me a feast and as you sit and wait for the hosts to be done with their speeches, mandatory "thank yous" to individuals that felt pretty short and soulless, you were handed a plate of half-cooked $1.00 ramen noodles, as the dinner you paid $50.00 for. I was hugely disappointed and wished it never happened. Maybe I'm the minority but I'm not going to pretend it was "awesome" just because everyone was in it and I'm not going to pretend it was "interesting" just because it was surprising. Surprising doesn't mean good. I was surprised when I took a dump and it hurt like heck, making me scream and then when I whipped my @$$ there was blood in the toilet paper. That doesn't make it good, interesting or something I would commend. So all in all, I heavily disagree with the strongly complimentary analysis you threw in and I didn't feel like even you really knew why you were complimenting it. You simply said "it was interesting", "I think it fit." But that's just my opinion.

  • @thegregnorton

    @thegregnorton

    4 ай бұрын

I think the idea of me not knowing why I was complimentary of it is an odd take. While it may not have been a deep dive into it, I think the video as a whole details my returning to the series and my point of view on it as a whole. I see your points on why it didn't work for you, and they make sense. The special did not hit me that way, and I don't think either of our takes devalue the other. We can each only speak to our own, but can not act like either on them are right

  • @azraelknightquest5754

@@thegregnorton I feel like your answers just weren't convincing, brother. Your explanations not thorough like other analysis you've done. I'm not at all trying to be rude or devalue YOU, specifically. I would argue your analysis of Archer for the most part was well done and your handling of the loss of Jessica Walters and the character Mallory Archery exceptional and classy. But towards the end, I felt like you WANTED to like the season finale so much you weren't accepting it was lackluster on a deeper level. If anything I said felt insulting or devalueing to your opinion or skill, I apologize. Perhaps my irritation at how the finale was handled showed too much or the lack of tone in text once against left my comments too open to interpretation. But I just really felt it was disappointing and frustratingly lackluster. And when it came time to find reasons why you thought something was interesting or well done, your responses lacked the depth and feels of previous opinions. Then again, maybe it's all up to perception and we're both miscommunicating. But mad respect to you for handling my disagreement so respectfully and politely.

Personally I think him inheriting Isis would have made a better storyline to begin with. The addition of the Pakistani chick was unnecessary, I’m Pakistani myself. I never once felt ohhhh pls add someone to represent me. I was wondering where my eggs woodhouse is since woodhouse died. Like it or not this show is sort of a man’s fantasy. It’s not meant to be all inclusive. Imagine adding the cbum and Arnold to euphoria and the next seasons were about them lifting weights and Sean Strickland shooting guns. I’ll tell my kids archer ended the season he got shot in the pool. “Well kids sometimes you just get shot in a pool by hot women after living like a G.”

I'm not really sure if they handled malories step away right. It felt kind of quick and gave the feeling of "malory is out there but she just abandoned everyone". The only time I felt sad was when "in memorial of" came, so I think that, that feeling should have came from a in universe perspective. So her death both in universe and in real life would have brought it together, just as Woodhouses death did.

The new season is a pivot but I didn't see anything that horrible with it. The last episode's bit of season 14 was pretty fun how they jump back and forth the A story and B story with the ending word from the previous scene. The new character doesn't standout as much but I figure if they made her stand out it would be too much of a pivot perhaps on the next seasons.

I honestly thought slater was still goign to tbe the villian but a b plot was going to ray/tatia/barry vs other barry/conway/slater(maybe modifed)?. felt liek a missed oppurtunity not to have archer/lana/ in the a plot, carol/pam & figis/krieger/zara in the b plot, and the cyborgs playing zone across the epidsode. its liek the show forgot to make ray a badass.

I do wish they had answered some questions like. Who was Archer's father. Who was Barry's Mother and Father. Why didn't they make use of Hans later on *She had that ONE episode, could have been used more given how smart she was* What happened to Veronica Dean and her lawyer? *We can assume Mallory went on a rampage and killed her, but still*

I’d like to think Archer has his happy ending with Pam Barry and Katya,he never really changed or at least barely did but if he went out he left with his lover and his two best friends (two are the same person) ,still the egotistical half assed hero who get sometimes gets the job done and even if he isn’t a spy he does whatever he wants still waiting on adventure and some people wanted him and Lana to be together but we all know they’ed never work out and Archer may never know who his father is but he doesn’t need to because we all just have let go take what we can and find something else and find our own adventure until there’s nothing left

It honestly died after they put him in a coma, it was so terrible with the dumb 'fantasy' seasons. I, like many stopped watching the show when they had the noir, the "danger island" and whatever other dumb ideas they came up with. The first few seasons were fantastic I remember, I still lived with my old roommates at the time. It was just a great show and it was before woke stupidity started taking hold of pop culture. I see your guitar/bass in the background, a lefty eh? That's cool bro, it's rare you see a left handed guitarist...well one that doesn't give in to having to learn to play a right-handed instrument lol. I know from working at Guitar Center that it ain't cheap to play left-handed, it's like they taxed you guys for being lefty's. That's really cool though man, and totally off topic haha but I immediately saw those when you were talking.

Kind of think this show would have done better if it just wrapped things up before they needed to take their little… detour. Just wtf was the show by then?

Sad to see it go but it has not been funny in a long time either. I watched it more out of loyalty. First 3-4 seasons were brilliant. I don't know if they lost their best writers, PC culture forced them to tone it down, etc, but it lost all that made it so damn funny and irreverent around season 5 and on.
