thanks for that.Most of her jewelry ended up with her daughter Hortense,who later sold some of them when she lived in exile from France..then still later sold some of it for her son Louis-Napoleon.. & still some she kept & gave it to him. she also sold Malmaison & contents

the malmaison we see today? when I went there in 80's they were trying to find & buy the original furniture. Hortense sold in a hurry as all Bonapartes were persona non grata when N was exiled in Elba. So Hortense settled in Switzerland? if I'm not mistaken.. lovely villa by the lake..it's now a museum.

Many of her tiaras, if not most, ended up with her granddaughter Josephine of Leuchtenberg of Bavaria, who married the Crown Prince of Sweden, Oscar, the son of Jean Baptiste Bernadotte, AKA Carl XIV Johan, and Empress Josephine's predecessor as fiancé to Napoleon, Desiree Claree. The granddaughter became Queen of Sweden in 1844 and the large number of tiaras and jewelry sets are still with the House of Bernadotte, save 4-5 tiaras and sets that were given to the new dynasty of Norway when Norway separated from its union with Sweden. In 1905 Queen Louise or Denmark, only surviving child of Swedish and Norwegian King Carl XV, passed on some of Josephine's tiaras to her daughter-in-law, Maud of Wales, to start the Norwegian royal crown jewels.

I remember being in NYC when I was about 19 (?) 1977 (?). My boyfriend and I were window gazing when we came up on Van Cleef & Arpell. In the window was a display of the emeralds of Empress Josephine. We were stunned, neither one of us had ever seen anything like it. Lovely photos. Beautiful 🤩! Empress Josephine was known and loved for her soft, empathetic nature and her maternal care for peace between peoples and nations. Love how she spoke with Czar Alexander (and he heard her concerns) soft diplomacy, on behalf of her husband, a light touch on the pulse of the heightened tension. Didn’t work (Napoleon’s Waterloo!), but the Czar’s gift of diamonds sure sparkled in exile! 💎💎💎

you forgot all the swedish royal jeweles that was gifted from the empress to her granddaughter who became the swedish queen. Some of the jewels the queen got from her mother also who had gotten it from the empress

It's funny all the best pieces that are in the french museums were stoled or few times bought in Italy.

So sad, all this only to be gunned down in a basement.

You must be confusing her with the Romanovs. Josephine died of pneumonia.

Josephine died in her own bed at Malmaison.
