granted the Emperor is so insanely old he's most likely been an actual good parent at some point in the 40'000 years he's walked the earth it could be that his Immortality and massively long life caused him to loose the portion of his humanity that granted you the paternal protectiveness and nurturing care needed to raise and father children. my guess is that seeing your own offspring being born either dying horribly or growing old and decaying while you remain the same over and over again for thousands of years would cause any man to see that having sons just wasn't worth it even then the Emperor created the primarchs to be his generals not his sons they were tools and war machines not men of the people or his heirs.

@@gokbay3057 I still think he recognized that those machines still had self-repair protocols and systems that were forgotten over the ages, and he merely reactivated it while saying something dramatic. Wouldn't be the first time someone lost the instruction manual to something and forgot a bunch of features, only to have someone who knew all the features show them some neat tricks.

@Cian Abroad it was his first major visit as the actual Emperor and not as some other Identity. This was a big, public show with his personal landing craft and an absolutely MASSIVE show. And he also had to simultaneously put himself as the Omnissiah so that the Mechanicum would accept him without question. So a grand gesture and fancy speech and the healing of a machine by accessing its long forgotten self-repair would go a long way to cementing his claims. Which it did.

Ollanius Pius was living presumably the last of his many, MANY lives on Calth when the Word Bearers hit it, and he had a flashback to THE BATTLE OF FUCKING VERDUN. Olly P is a perpetual. As far as I know, Olly was actually a perpetual before even the Emperor was born. The genetic mother of the Primarchs, Erda, said that Ollanius Pius was the oldest of their number, always a religious soul, content to live a normal life, never actually given to ambition even approaching that of the Emperor.

The Emperor is really a very interesting character, because he's essentially the exaggeration of the best and the worst humanity has to offer. I still think that the short story where he meets the last priest on Earth to be one of the most well-written character studies written in sci-fi.

Let it be remembered that in that last moment, Horus finally gained clarity as the Ruinous Powers abandoned him and only then he was able to look to his father with regret and shame for what he had done. In that last moment, the Emperor of Mankind had to obliterate not the Champion of Chaos, but his favored son that was lead astray.

Hey National Socialism, Congrats to being new to 40k. Taking the BL novels as 100% true, 100% canon is the dumbest thing you could do. They repeatedly contradict established codex lore, contradict each other, and many times contradict themselves. They are not 100% reliable sources, and BL even says this in repeated interviews. Honestly, if everything written was true, then genestealers would have nothing to do with Tyranids, and Irks could have kids. Stop being loud and stupid, pick one.

Mount Rushmore is granite, which erodes roughly 1 inch every 10,000 years. Since each of the noses is about 240 inches long, they might last up to 2.4 million years before they completely wear away.

I think it had more to do with whom they were speaking about. The Emperor of mankind believed in education, science and progress. The Templin Institute fulfills many of what he desired for his people to know. Knowledge and truth and the ability to question. It would be in the interest of the Emperor that such a small and merely insignificant transmission be allowed to go uninterrupted. The Emperor Protects..

As in whatever happens it seems to be implied that the galaxy will remain dominated by forces in an endless stalemate against one another. Which honestly makes perfect sense, I mean this is the grim darkness of the far future and there is only war!

Seeing this, hearing the story and seeing it all go down brings to mind an image that has stuck with me for years. It was a simple painting, just a bit of fan art, but it struck such a cord with me that I still to this day praise it as one of the most tragic moments ever put to canvas. It depicts the Emperor, standing upon one of the many balconies of the Imperial palace, cradling a baby in his arms. The God Emperor always gets a bad rap for that. The Chaos Gods kidnapped his Primarchs and scattered them across the cosmos. Even for him it was a bloody miracle he found any of them. And really when it comes down to it you can't fail at something you never started. The Primarchs are genetic constructs using the Emperor's own DNA as a template. At best they're clones not his biological descendants.

If the emperor ever woke up from his death bed, the first thing he would do is to organise a defense agaisnt the ruinous powers then complete his golden throne project. Because he knows they are afraid of what knowledge he has, the golden throne alone is enough of a reason for them to decide to corrupt the son of the emperor, which wasn't an easy task.

I am not at all up to date on my 40k lore, but every now and then I go down a 40k rabbit hole and every time I leave thinking “God damn this shit is so fucking metal.” 🤘🏽
