From what I remember, the emojis were causing the phone to glitch (automatically playing candy crush, etc.) so he just deletes his phone. It is still wierd tho.

Something I think I should applaud The Emoji Movie for is the character designs, not the quality but the quantity. The designers had to design HUNDREDS of distinct background characters based on existing emojis alongside other properties, and honestly that is a feat in such a rushed movie.

I feel like the plot should go like this: Gene messes up his first day of being used as an emoji, and feeling disappointed in himself he goes to the workplace to send a proper meh emoji with the help of his childhood friend, high five. But he ends up destroying the workplace. Everyone tries to find out who did it and out of guilt he tells his parents (who work for the smiley emoji) and then tells him he is running away so no one finds out. But the smile emoji was stalking them and sends robots after him and the parents, knowing this, try to get to him first. Remember, the entire emoji hq was destroyed by gene, so the teenager using the phone wonders why and asks his friends, and they think that his phone got hacked and he should get a new one.

5:02 As a programmer, I can confirm this is hacking.

I remember watching one review where they suggested a better plot idea where there’s two lovers who meet online but they speak different languages so the emojis try to help them communicate. I think that idea could have been much nicer.

I sat down and watched the entire Emoji Movie one day in 2020 or something. What I felt was... exactly the same as when I watched Bee Movie. A soulless, generic, cookie-cutter film of "everyone needs to work together, but it doesn't mean you can't stand out". The funny thing is, Bee Movie does it slightly better than the Emoji Movie, but barely. That's really what it is. The Emoji Movie is just the Bee Movie in disguise.

3 to be exact! That's (in my opinion) why people should hear me out. If I'd just seen it once while barely paying attention it would be easier for me to ignore the bad aspects and just say "no". But because I had to watch it 3 times it's easier to see the many many flaws with this movie. But no matter how many times I see it I still think it got too much hate. When it first came out (and even now) it has the stigma that it's the worst thing humanity has ever done when that simply isn't true. It genuinely got more backlash than Cuties, which should literally be a crime to watch.

I think we saw this on a school field trip, and while I liked it, I’m certain there was at least one person who thought, “This school needs to make better decisions.” I honestly think schools should let the students throw out some suggestions for a field trip, instead of having quite literally no say in where the school wants to take them. Or better yet, create a list of like five special places, and let students vote on one of them. Also throw in the first idea, and that possibly could work. The place that got the most votes is where they’ll be going. I get it, the school’s in charge and all, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that this should exist, or exist in a more prevalent form.

If anyone is planning to watch it I recommend watching it with a group of friends. Making fun of the Emoji Pop with the squad was honestly the best memory of this movie I have.

@@T3rr0r626 One of my favourite videos is "We Get Drunk and Watch the Emoji Movie" by the channel Razzle. I won't lie, some of their jokes can get pretty vulgar, but sometimes it really feels like I'm with a group of friends ragging on a crappy movie. You guys should check out their channel!

I disagree. Sure the movie is a piece of hot garbage but the hate is a bit excessive. It genuinely got more backlash than Cuties. I feel most reviewers treated it like it’s humanity’s biggest mistake but it’s really just a bad movie.

Oddly enough, it seems like since the emoji movie came out, Sony has consistently made good movies. Movies like Spider Verse and The Mitchells vs the machines were amazing, and hotel Transylvania 3 and others have all been at least pretty good. This might be because there was nowhere to go but up after the release of this movie, but it’s still an interesting observation.

I guess this was one of their experimental films, that they just wanted to try out and they hut the nail with mitchellcand the machine and spiderverse movies.

Yes, I do agree that it's a bad movie BUT I also do think that people judge it too harshly just because it's a cringy idea and it's funny to bash on it
