It’s so intentional that Erwin introduced her to his friends at the end. Krista invited her to a party but first chance she gets she ditches her not once but twice knowing that Nadine has a hard time being social. It sucks that Nadine was the only one to apologize when her mother crossed a major line, her brother took her only friend, and her friend basically dropped her and failed at maintaining her friendship plus her new relationship.

Yeah, when I showed my best friend this movie a few years ago, she almost couldn’t finish it because of how much Nadine’s “best friend” pissed her off. Honestly I get it.

girls have such intricate relationships with their best friends like ur best friend getting in a relationship with your brother who you've been told by everyone is better than u would be the ultimate betrayal 😭

THIS. I've been thinking that if he was nice to her and they had a like a good relationship it wouldnt be a big deal but Nadine and Darrien both take out the frustrations with what their mom does on each other. The mom favors Darrien so Nadine resents Darrien. The mom makes Darrien responsible for everything and Darrien resents Nadine for that. Their relationship is soooo messy and a real best friend would know ALL of that. So dating her brother is not okay given how rocky their relationship and ESPECIALLY because she knows how insecure Nadine is. It's like Zuff said, like your best friend comes over to your house and you think it's bc she wants to hang out with you, but really she's there for your brother- the person you're convinced everyone prefers over you.

Her brother was under no obligation to pick her up or defend her from being kicked out of the house, Krista constantly tried to confront the conflict that Nadine always took the highroad on. She was acting like no one understood her when in reality she's so understood because she talks about herself and others non-stop. Insecurity doesn't equate to kindness.
I stand by that Nadine was justified in her feelings, no effort was made to make her feel included & not a third wheel, she felt left behind by her only friend she never reassured her just made her feel bad abt her feelings, the end where Erwin makes sure to include her & introduce her is meant to highlight that.
maybe it’s because i’ve seen this movie too many times and can relate too much to nadine but I honestly think she was completely valid in the way she was feeling. her entire life everybody always instantly favored her brother. her own MOM favored her brother. her dad was the only one who saw her for who she was. then finally she meets this girl who is her other half and for YEARS they spend all their time together. then her dad passes away and her best friend is essentially the only person left in her life who she feels like truly cares for her. THEN her best friend gets with her brother that she has failed to live up to her entire life so from her POV she essentially lost yet another (and the most important) person to her brother. the way she acted may have been childish but it came from a realllll place of hurt and insecurity. especially when her brother says “friends, plural?” the speech nadine says towards the end literally gets me every time, i’m glad she was able to branch out and meet new people!
Fighting with your children is normal but you should never go out of your way to deliberately hurt them. Wish we would have gotten at least an apology from her.

This and Booksmart are my two faves for rewatchability, then Perks of Being a Wallflower because it's a lot more sad
she had been second to her brother all her life, even to her mom. the only person who saw her was her dad until she met krista. they were best friends for 12 years and told eachother everything so obviously the topic of being in her brothers shadow would’ve come up. then suddenly her dad dies and her best friend, the only other person she felt ever saw her is “dating” her brother and leaving her out. essentially to her its as if she’s lost every one. her anger and sadness is very valid, to her krista is everything but krista cant even pick her over her brother who she barely started dating. its such a deep betrayal.
i love that rob & bryce have been friends with zuff for so long, they immediately know when he’s making something up. the faces they make at 15:57 and bryce’s “i must’ve missed that chapter” when zuff was talking about all this ‘skateboarding’ he used to do is too funny 😂

The real villian is the mother, she is a disaster. The fact the brother has to be the voice of reason to protect his little sister is honestly sad.
Im really frustrated over the fact that they never actually had a real conversation over krista and darian. If they had then nadine might have been okay with it, but its just never really addressed head on and shes made out to be the bad guy

Nadine is completely valid. Her bsf slept with her brother and couldn’t choose. thinking that she HAS to choose is whats wrong and childish. nadine is valid for feeling weird about it of course but forcing her friend to choose is extremely immature and that is where she lost me
This movie infuriates me in the worst way possible. Not only does Nadine obviously suffer from several mental issues, but her family and ONLY friend gaslight her the ENTIRE movie..like she shouldn't have apologized and especially not to her brother.

The only thing I don't like about this movie is having to see the actor who plays the brother. Blake Jenner was abusive to his ex wife Melissa Benoist for years and put her in the hospital. She talks about it on her Instagram without saying his name and people kind of put the pieces together that it was him. He later admitted to it in an Instagram post while somehow trying to twist the story in his favor. I can't stand the guy.

The audacity of him to try to frame it as a mutual abuse when all it was is her finally starting to fight back. Yeah, cause self-defense is the same as abuse.
The way erwin brought her over to introduce her to his friends is what Krista should've done. Even though those girls weren't her "friends" she should've included her in it, especially knowing how nadine is. That's what I'd do for a friend.

I feel like the reason nadine got so upset is because her whole life she was used to losing, especially to her brother. So when her best friend and basically the only person she had slept with her brother it felt like another thing that he was taking away from her. Shes just battling some deep rooted stuff and felt alone so i understand where shes coming from

Especially since Nadine probably always rants to Krista about how mean her brother is
This movie came out when me and my older brother weren't close anymore because I was a mess and he was over it.... that being said I cried like a baby when they finally hug and make up. My brother and I are good now too :)
I love how Rob realized he mentioned the wrong show when the mom pops up again and during a sad scene too😂
Nadine is in the right here about her mom and her friend. Her best friend should know her struggle with her brother and social anxiety and get why this is hard for her. Her mother treats her like crap. If the friend apologized from the start and tried to include Nadine it would have been different. The brother got the only thing a Nadine had for herself. Yes he genuinely liked her and had had a hard life too, but that doesn’t negate Nadine’s feelings.
I know people in the comments have said it and many more will but Nadine's stance is very valid. And for her friend of 12 years to choose to sleep with and date her brother who went out of his way to put her down, knew he was favored by the world and their mother, treated her like trash... It's so low of her. Nadine doesn't even like her brother, for valid reasons, and Krista knows that but she still went ahead with what she did. It's not just a simple case of best friend dating brother, it's more complicated than that. Also, Krista is weird for inviting Nadine to that party, knowing Nadine only went because of her, then abandoning her the first chance she got. I'd never do that to a friend.
MY FAVORITE MOVIE EVER THE MONOLOGUE ALWAYS HITS ME SO HARD
This movie really tried to gaslight the audience into thinking that Nadine was the problem when it was literally everyone else around her I remember watching this for the first time and sadly falling for the gaslighting but rewatched it and had no idea what Nadine did wrong, the more rewatched it the more confused I was on why everyone was so mad at her
as a 22 year old man this is my favorite movie I’m so glad you reacted to it
i HATE how this movie tried to paint nadine as the villain and SO many ppl fell for that trap. i though nadine was extremely valid this entire movie. like the villains are literally EVERYONE else.
nadine didn’t do a thing wrong
Woody Harrelson is even more hilarious in this movie! Lol! His role as the teacher is the cherry on top!
Love when Zuff high-key starts visibly crushing and geeking over a guy in a movie or show
48:11 Bryces' hat changing through me so off guard, thought I was going crazy lol
As someone who lost her dad before freshman year of high school, had a hard relationship with my mom, and felt so lost- this movie meant everything to me when I saw it a couple of years after high school ended for me.
I was willing to take your word that Kyra Sedgwick was in Outerbanks because I've never seen it. But then you mentioned the aunt who wanted to sell the house and was like wait a minute... Glad you figured it out in the end 😅

I genuinely loveee this movie one of the more realistic high school movies, very relatable and the characters r so well fleshed out.
we need reaction to the spectacular now
Rob being on Kristas side is such a friend red flag😭
As a teacher, I can say that Woody Harrison’s character is so damn relatable. 🤣
The fact she goes for her brother of all people yet know how they treat each other is just cause for bs and drama, she shouldn’t be surprised honestly
I love how relatable this movie was and I loved Hailee’s acting in this, it made me fall in love with her even more.🥰 Also Nadine’s brother kinda sucked but I wanted him to beat tf out of Nick after her “date” with him…🤦🏾♀️😭
this movie actually pains me with how shitty everyone treats nadine (beside the teacher and erwin)
i LOVE how Rob knew about the Glee project and Blake Jenner being on Glee 😅😂 that thing is hella old lol
yesss so happy to see you guys react to this!! it's a movie that's just very close to my heart. so many of the awkward moments are just... unbearable to watch, which is sort of exactly what being seventeen feels like. at that age, everything seems humiliating and all-important and life ending all the time, and i love when a movie captures that feeling. thanks for the reaction and for appreciating this movie :)
The transition to her awkward phase is hilarious, and when she pulled out the dude from napoleon dynamite I died
“Rufus from Gen V” is also on the later seasons of Supernatural and he is awesome.

I have never been more furious at a movie lmao. Nadine was better than I would ever be if I were in her shoes.
Love your reactions! Yall really ripped on nadine. I'm not sure you fully understood her, she definitely is a different personality type from many teens but whether shes immature or not is up to interpretation. But I am so glad you reacted! 💙💙💙

I actually heard of this movie for a long time never got round to watching it this didn’t dosaapoint its hilarious 😂😂
The absolute love I have for Erwin Kim 😘👌 This is definitely one of my favorite coming of age movies!!
The lady who plays the mom is from The Summer I Turned Pretty, her name is Kyra Sedgewick and she's married to Kevin Bacon (from the original footloose, if you haven't seen it I really recommend watching it or even better is the remake from 2011)
I always get mad at this movie cause why nobody admits they did wrong????? Why was everyone acting like she is the one to blame I HATE ITTTTT 😢
There's another film titled- "The Edge of Seventeen' from 1998- it's one of the BEST gay teen dramas ever made. Got excited when I saw the title- then very disappointed.
Great reaction guys, always love your videos 😊
I feel Nadine. If you think about how krista was Nadine’s 2nd favorite person in the world and the only person she felt comfortable around next to her father. For Nadine, losing krista was similar to losing her father. They were the only two people that made her life happier, so it was such a big deal. I’ve always personally related to Nadine and her relationship with her brother so that’s why I see it this way.
Honestly I don’t blame Nadine during the party cause parties aren’t my scene and clearly aren’t hers so I too would feel out of place at a party I didn’t plan on attending but was invited to by my friend who is playing beer pong cause it does seem forced and awkward playing beer pong with drunk strangers like I wouldn’t wanna be there either lol. You also don’t have to do literally everything with your friend, esp if she’s with your brother but yea I can kinda see how she feels her brother stole her, esp since they never really get along but yea her best friend knew how much she disliked her brother yet she went for him anyway out of all people 😂
Such a great start to the movie lol coming of age makes me nostalgic and I was also nearing end of high school watching this so it’s kinda perfect and pretty relatable
