The Ecstasy of St. Teresa is one of the most spectacular masterpieces by Bernini. You can find it in Santa Maria della Vittoria in Rome. Bernini set the scene as on a stage where we can still see Saint Teresa of Avila experience her divine Ecstasy. The details are brilliant, so let me show you all of them in this video.

I will never forget the first time I knowingly saw a Bernini, which was at the Villa Borghese… I gasped out loud and burst into tears, the guide and other visitors seemed to understand!! Yet another wonderful choice for a video Carel, thank you so much!!!

I fully understand as well. They are incredible aren't they?
A marvelous piece of art! Bernini was so talented and prolific, it amazes me how "forgotten" he is by mainstream culture, he should be much more appreciated!

the only problem with Bernini is that almost all his works are in Rome. That makes it difficult for his work to be more universal. It is hard to move buildings, fountains or chapels to museums elsewhere. But it is always fun to visit Rome, so there is a win win there
Carel does it again! great explanation, must viist this Chapel in Rome now, one more wonder to visit!

Definitly, one of my favorites sculptures of all the times!!! it´s exquisite!!! The ropes, the shapes, the expressions, the space between figures, the body language. I found it perfect!!! It´s not only the "divine pleasure" of Santa Teresa but a "divine pleasure" for us, the viewers. Thanks for showing the sculpture "in situ", Carel. The explanation of those windows and the context ad a lot to understand more this masterpiece. Greetings from Argentina

One of my all time favorites! I always saw this sculpture as depicting the moment before the angel pierces her with the spear...but after hearing Saint Teresa's recollection of the encounter, does this actually depict the moment after her removes it from her?
Was the Guidi made after Bernini's? Did they plan them together? They seem a pair.

Yes the Guidi was made later, but Bernini had planned it to be made. In his design he included the idea of a similar chapel opposite st teresa.
