In Germany we have different projects, and I think you will have them too, where cope te normal people tell their history, all teir memory, so later people so to say can listen to all this from fit hand, and nothing will get lost. I adore these projects, and I ak you kindly to ask around ('oral history' or so) and share everything I would so love to talk to you! I am not so much younger (57 now); it would be great to tell you how I remember the teenage boys from the time when I had to go to kindergarten, how I sang those sixties songs; even thought God wore tight jeans and a 'mushroom head' while sitting on clouds :); and then compare it to your stories. ...a lot of ten pound pohms were travelling back to Britain at the time for various reasons. We ourselves were voyaging from Australia to Britain and Europe in 66/67 new year period aboard the Fairsky of Sitmar Lines and the Bee Gees were among the passengers also. Bee Gees arrived four or five months before easybeats and struck gold. It looks like Britain was swamped with talented rock n roll bands in 67 and slightly different styles of bee gees and Seekers and Peter Paul n Mary emerged as something different from the rock n roll crowd.

❤ these five young men met at Villawood Migrant Hostel. Stevie Wright stepped up to the plate in 1964., aged 16. I was 4. These fellows must have made ALOT A L O T of music in a very short time., putting their enthusiasm for life in Australia into song. Mismanagement of their band and poor airplay on radio ... etc ., they all wanted to go to Saint Louis. Fleet left the band to be WITH his family. They recorded Heaven and Hell., in London. And, yes guy'man, they were punk before punk had a title and twinkled in the eyes of the Brits., who shared it with the world , for better or worse. Hay Harry wasn't written and Malinda Herman , by me , regrettably who knows what it might have been if you'd made the scene... Suzi Quatro covered Stevie Wright's song, Suzi in '75 ? , RIGHT on time for me aged 15. I sat crossed legs in parent's front yard amoungst the hibiscus and dwarf Pritchardia with the purple seeds and prayed for rain and asked myself why because girls can rock music too., l knew it. My sister and me . Just us two laying on the bonnet of dad's car in the night at grans house. Looking at the sky. Some people say , 10 4 good buddy but that was my uncle's children, and we were older by then but l still want to get a tower for my back yard 50 years later. Frequencies are cool. Donald was on this morning , and l heard him speaking and he's so fluffy 😊😊😊 .. I'm Wendy May Smith. I'd like to complain for anyone who drops a load of manure or worse , poisen on my doorstep, but in defence of the leaders , there's more to it than getting some rights to live and work without dying by , biting me. It's a wild wild animal the big uns in this world, you can't just stretch out your arm even to inspect a wound, and that pincer near killed me., and it still is l suppose. But I'm not looking it in the eye because it's gaze always goes past me even when it's uttering a greeting it's looking to the fields of poppy's and the road to taking care of business .my lord l really want to know you. My sweet lord. If I've offended anyone by paying hush money , fluffy funny care . If l gave someone a dollar to catch a train or 500 or 10 hundred or 100 hundred and they catch that train and they go to noon pen or Cambodia and create such animosity in the country by dividing the people and the yellow brick road is riddled with staving children holding rifles and acting as guards and torturers of each other and another million citizens like occurred when the Kamur Rouge led by Pol Pot took parliament house with the weapons of war that were paid for by a government in a far away land , where money grows on trees and there's no rule about cleaning up your mess when the beach party is over. I'm making myself sick talking about this but only when l got to that part concerning the USA government., and film stars. And that's just one continent. Thank God for punk. I guess it's a legal precedent. He's a cute wee ducky. Because he was raised in an affluent society. I just hope he remembers the migrants and the workers who don't get counted unless they're somehow famous , like Steve Wright and he was well liked as a radio presenter for some time before he died in 2014., but he was in pain for some time and had heart bypass surgery a year before his death and only a few knew about it. You just don't know. True colours like a rainbow.

I know what you mean...I'm 61 now and remember all of the 60s bands, even those from the early years. My three older sisters had the radio and record players going all the time, so its all ingrained in me, still. I agree that I may be able to sing along with the songs even now but don't necessarily know the band/singer/songwriter. Some of my earliest memories include hearing Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons singing "Cherry" while riding in my parents' '62 Chevy Belair in downtown Baltimore. Also, loved when my sister would play "Michelle" on the record player (I was convinced that my 6 year-old self knew French!). Gawd, those were the days, my friend, we thought they'd never end, and they all bring back such great memories!

Same here ... I was mostly focused on the new Beatles tracks and albums as they hit on an ongoing basis, but there were certain songs from the same era that were outstanding ... I was a ten year old guitarist just learning, and I immediately loved everything about this piece: The guitar work really stood out for it's unique riff pattern, and the vocals have a rock music dynamism that made the Beatles so awesome in my eyes ... He really cranks the vocal energy up in the "Tonight" chorus, getting that edgy Lennon like growl, and it's so satisfying and perfect for the overall form of the song Great example of a pre-chorus as well ... It's perfect guitar pop for the ages

This is one of those stroke-of-genious songs that is so 60's, yet so timeless (as many are). I enjoy it so much, yet if you asked me who wrote or performed it I'd be at a loss. I'm no musicologist, though I grew up in the 60's & 70's, and if you see my music likes, I have a lot and they only scratch the surface. But I say without reserve that I think this is a perfect pop rock song. I like everything about it, and it still gets me going today as it did back when. It's a great story everyone can relate to, told with range in vocals, guitar work and heavy snare. It's technically simple, yet hits every nerve in your body. It's a lightning strike. Since I listened to it for the first time in perhaps decades last week, I can't get this song out of my mind. I love it so much.

I’ll agree with the fact that growing up in the 60’s with the music included was the best decade in the 20th century……

I was like 10 when this hit American AM radio. I was already into music as my father gave me free access to his very expensive tube Stereo. Bands like this, then the Animals , Hendrix, The Doors. It was a great time to be young

My god this is an awful tune. The campy choreography of the band members. Awful, awful stuff. Australia is different. I fully acknowledge the other comments here - basically "best song ever" Awful, awful freaking tune. Freaking pathetic. The good thing that came out of this band was Harry Vanda and George Young, recording engineers who brought AC/DC to life. What's puzzling is, the English music of the 1960s just blows this away: Procul Harem: "Lighter Shade of Pale" Derek and the Dominoes: "Layla" Yardbirds: "Heart full of Soul" Yardbirds: "For your love" The Kinks: "You really got me" The Who: too many hits to list Rolling Stones: too many hits to list Good gosh, sometime between this song and the early 1970s, George Young and Harry Vanda figured out good songwriting. I always wondered what this poorly-named tune sounded like. Just pathetic. Sorry, just my assessment.
@thomasbain9241

@@Greg_Chase The song you compared Friday on My Mind to was called A Whiter ! Shade of Pale (not lighter) .You had some trouble with the name of the group that recorded it (Procol Harum is the correct spelling!!) Anyway I guess people are entitled to their opinion in each generation will have theirs. I didn't mind AC /DC but I thought that there songs sounded the same. That's my opinion. Anyway we will never agree but will agree to disagree. Otherwise life would be boring. As long as we enjoy our favourite music. God Bless

@@franmellor9843 No, I fully admit the musical value of pop tunes is 100% subjective. But I have had a few days to assess my appraisal and I cannot get around the progress that George Young and Harry Vanda made in the years that followed this pathetic tune. GY and HV produced the early AC/DC albums. They brought their studio chops and their acknowledgement/acceptance of the complete failure of Easybeats songs to chart well in England or, particularly, the U.S. The failure of any Easybeats tunes to chart in the top 10 America in that time period is telling. The U.S. in the 60s could not get enough of English pop music. The Who, the Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds, Derek and the Dominos, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, the Dave Clark Five, Iron Butterfly, The Kinks, and so on. It is my surmise that David Bowie listened to Easybeats tunes to carefully note what makes for a low-chance-of-charting pop tune. Friday on my mind is in the same 'league' as another pathetic pop tune - "Let your hair hang down" by the band Catapult. I dare you to listen to it - you can find it on youtube. *_I DOUBLE DARE YOU_* .
Al l these years later, they're so young looking! What great years those were for music.

The "Tonight!" chorus is a masterclass in building excitement. The technique is very early Beatles, but the substance is all Easybeats. Maybe they derived some of their sound from the Hollies, or maybe the Hollies took it from them.

The Easybeats were an Australian rock band which formed in Sydney, Australia, in late 1964, and disbanded at the end of 1969. They were the antipodean echo to the style and sound of the Beatles in Britain, and the first rock and roll act from Australia to score an international pop hit with the 1966 single, "Friday on My Mind". All five founding members were from families that had migrated to Australia from Europe: lead singer Stevie Wright and drummer Gordon "Snowy" Fleet were from England; rhythm guitarist George Young was from Scotland; lead guitarist Harry Vanda and bassist Dick Diamonde were from the Netherlands.
