I fostered a guinea pig who came from an abusive and neglectful situation and was unable to bond with other pigs, but I used your taming advice and formed a huge bond with him. He even got to where he liked being picked up and would curl up on my shoulder for naps. Every one of your videos I took to heart. He unfortunately had a stroke and passed a couple months ago. Thank you for this channel and giving me the ability to give him as good of a life as possible.

@Allison Toth I don’t think you have ever seen an actual guinea pig scared for its life, because if you did you wouldn’t be saying that. Billy is a bit uneasy and probably confused or uncomfortable. But he’s not scared for his life. I rarely bathe my guinea pigs since they don’t need to be bathed often, but we had one that was ACTUALLY terrified of bathing no matter how we did it. She had wide eyes, would try to jump out constantly and was squeaking for dear life. After that we have only been using warm, wet towels instead of baths for her. The others are fine with baths like this. Guinea pigs are definitely capable of tolerating baths without fear. They’ll let you know when they dislike something or are terrified. I have owned guinea pigs for about 15 years now.

Scotty's Animals well one of my pigs name is Wyldstyle- so I sing “wild thing you make my heart sing” , but instead I say “Wyldstyle” -one of my baby boys rumblestruts all day so I made up a song “Rumblestrutting it’s what I do I do it for me and I do it for you” 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

My piggie loves "the greatest love of all" by Whitney Houston lol it calms him. I told him on my heart and sing it to him. I can't wait to get a second piggie to see what his favorite song is ❤

Back in 2012 when I started to have guinea pigs as pets, there wasn't as much information about them as much as there is now. Which I am so grateful to have this channel as a resource. There was so much misinformation out there. The guinea pig community is continuing to grow and learn new stuff about their fur babies everyday. Which is super fantastic! Thank you for your videos!

I just love how much he shows love to his little piggies and treats them like his kids

Scared guinea pigs can suddenly jump, so I think we should warn people about that. Don't leave your piggy standing in the sink. Sometimes a bowl on the floor is a better idea so they don't fall from high up. Thank you Scotty for making it look easy there!

Yeah, my piggys love to popcorn when I interact with them. I have only used wipes on them. I will admit, I am scared to put them in a tub of water 😢

I cut a piece of that rubbery shelf liner stuff, and put it in my bathroom sink for bath time so they don't slip & slide. Worth mentioning to make sure to thoroughly rinse them, residue from the shampoo can cause skin irritation and drying. Billy is just the cutest!! He was so cute in the tub 😆

Thank you so much Scotty, this video was so helpful! My boys don’t like being handled very much but all the butt dragging and grease gland gunk meant they really needed a bath. Watching your video made the job so much less daunting and my boys were so good the whole time. I now have two fresh smelling and very soft shiny piggies 😊

My daughter will be 8 in June and she was promised a Guinea pig, she knows before getting anything she has to research because once she agrees to get a pet she is responsible for all the care. I will buy what it needs but the care is all her. She watched the rescue videos and yours. The lady backed out and didn’t get her the piggy. We wait and found petco had two males that was dropped off in a box. We adopted them because they can’t sell them once returned. She loves watching your videos. They both had bad care, lack of vitamin C and very dirty we are about to give them their first baths and wanted to watch this video first. Thank you so much for showing noobies like us how we can do this!!

I’ve only had to bathe my piggies once, but I probably need to give them another one soon.

I heard that you rarely need to give guinea pigs a bath unless they have ringworm or very dirty, They are prone to getting respiratory infections, but watching Billy being bathed was adorable 😁

I get my two girls in 6 days! Been researching and loading up on videos from you and Saskia and Little Adventures for months now to prepare. Everything is set up too! So excited ❤️

Ah! wholesome content. Thank goodness! I was down a rabbit hole 😧 Billy saved me! my bois hardly even smell and I rarely bathe them unless they are dirty. They don’t lie in their poo tho. I’d like to mention something about the bottles if that’s ok? Pls make sure all of the piggies can get to one easily without fighting over it. I had that problem with bunnies. Keep cool everyone! 🖖

Bunnies need water bowls not bottles so before correcting someone else, be sure your own care is up to scratch.

I know I’m late but this is a lifesaver! My two rescue girls don’t seem like they’ve ever had a bath and they’re both 3yrs old. And they smell like urine. They keep spraying each other, so today is bath day.

What I did with my old man GP when I was a baby he smelly so we had a one of those industrial laundry rooms sinks so we put towels on the bottom to act like a filter so it will filter out the poop and other things so I did was we just rubbed them down with some water not too hot not too cold just warm enough that he will enjoy it so we put some soap in our hands and rubbed it on his back and he was enjoying it and I told him just look at me nothing to be worried about and it seemed to use enjoying it to this day that's my little style a towel to act like a cushion and a filter and just some peace and quiet to just let your guinea pig relax and enjoy being scrubbed

I don't know who I love more, Scotty or Billy. :) Just a couple of suggestions: First, get everything ready first including having two bath towels within arms' reach. No looking for a towel with a wet gp in your hands! Second put a wash cloth or towel on the floor of your dish pan. You gp's won't slip and slide and they will be far more calm. Third, put the water in the pan first while your gp is in another room. Then fill a plastic pitcher with warm water and use it to fill (and refill) a 2-cup plastic measuring cup with a pour spout to rinse your gp to avoid the sound of running water, or accidentally using water that is too hot or cold!. I use fragrance free, plant based 'dreft' Bottle & Dish Soap to shampoo my gp's. (I haven't needed a medicated soap yet.) My gp's are so soft and shiny after being shampooed with dreft liquid soap (meant to use on baby bottles.) My gp's usually get a bath before visiting the vet. The vet and vet techs always comment about how soft and shiny my gp's are, and I don't freak out if my gp's accidentally eat or drink a little bit of their bath water. I learned all this stuff through trial and error. I love Scotty and his video's. I think he kisses his babies as much as I kiss mine. :)

You are a great person. We need more people like you. My daughter has two guinea pigs that my wife and daughter take care of. We thought that guinea pigs were not to get wet. What a misconception we were under. We do change their woodchip bedding every few days to keep them clean and fresh.

I love seeing you with the piggies, it's always heartwarming. Also, I've been a bit worried about the upcoming summer heat here as I live on the top floor and it tends to get very warm, I'll def try that water bottle trick.

I love the love and affection given to the piggies. Who knew they could be bathed? How often should this be done?

As far as I know, short-haired pigs only need them about once a year unless they get really dirty, but I could be wrong about that. They groom themselves just fine, but the occasional bath is good. But long-haired pigs need them much more often because their fur gets matted and dirty quicker.

I need to learn how to do this and watch because my guinea pig is sitting next to me no seriously she is Olney 1-2 years old I got her 2 days ago trust me

I have piggies to and I think this will definitely help me when I give them a bath.

Just a tip! Guinea pig’s skin can be very sensitive so it’s best to use a shampoo made specifically for them! Also it is better to towel dry since the blow dryer can be pretty harsh. You can find shampoo at your local pet stores. Don’t get any shampoo near their eyes either!

I just bought my daughter a guinea pig, I got her from a feeders supply and I don’t think they took as good of care of her as they should have. Her nails were super long and caked w poop and dirty stuff. I’ve already clipped them but was told I’m not allowed to give a bath! So glad I saw this so now I can clean our sweet girl!
