The East Broad Top Railroad
This is the segment on the EBT currently airing on Public Television, which is part of our 30th Anniversary Special. I personally enjoyed profiling this National Historic Land Mark and ALL the volunteers and employees that have work tirelessly to bring this place back to life for all to enjoy and experience. The Smithsonian has described it as one of the most intact 19th-century industrial sites in the country. This is one of my top 10 "must" experience railway site in North America. I hope you are able to visit this American transportation land mark. Robert Van Camp, Creator and Producer, Great Scenic Railway Journey.

I visited there back in the 80's and I was amazed . 1st stream powered train I ever rode on. Want to take my grand nephews and nieces to ride a piece of history .
i wastched this on WPSU PBS channel and was impressed at the show.
After the whole line was abandoned in 1956.
Awesome story. Thanks to everyone involved!
I hope one day to visit the East Broad Top Railroad.

No matter where you live, a trip to Rockhill Furnace is a must if you are into trains, history of scenic rural beauty. This living museum is fascinating to anyone who has the slightest interest in our industrial history and the people who built America in the last 150 years. Believe me it is worth a trip!

The video makes it seen that the railroad was shut down from 1956 until 2020. But I visited it with my now 31 year old son when he was approximately 7 or 8 years old, which makes it in the mid to late 90s. I'm not sure when it shut down. I was sad to see that it had been closed when I looked it up for my second son (now 22). He is a big train fan. That was probably 10 or so years ago. But I was thrilled to see it has been in restoration, and he'll be able to ride there someday hopefully soon!

Yep, rode on it in the 80's with my friends, from what I am seeing they are really getting into restoring everything .
I would love to visit the East Broad Top Railroad one day.
I live near another three foot narrow gauge railroad called the Huckleberry Railroad, I'd like to see that railroad freatured on this show someday
There are a number of "heritage" railways in Britain, preserved and operated by regular people working together. It's nice to see Americans can do it, too, rather than waiting for "the rich guy" to take care of stuff.
What happened to the original narrator for this series?

Eh...The guy is off, the Rio Grande in Colorado is oldest; the D&NRG is older by a year.

The EBT is the oldest operating narrow gauge railroad in the country. The portions of the Denver and Rio Grande that are still operating were built nearly a decade after the EBT.
My son loves trains 🚆🛤🚋🚞🚝🚊🚉🚈🚇🚅🚄🚃🚂 and is glad that the salvage company the railroad was sold to preserved it instead of scrapping it my son and I deeply respect that; we believe that God himself wanted it preserved and my son hopes that the entire line is restored and used again as soon as possible.
