It's kinda hard to gather a lot of good actors that have a accent to a dead language. Stop complaining and enjoy what you have.

***** American English is a much newer version of the language and originated from an entirely different continent than Latin. So that's why I think British English is more fitting than American English in the Roman context.

***** the thing is... Britain actually became a part of the Roman empire. On the other hand, Americans just was not in the ancient history. Even early americans didn't speak american.

Forget the critics this is a very good movie. I truly recommend The Eagle!

Just saw this in the local cinema tonight...excellent film...brilliant fight scenes and loved the scenes shot in Scotland....My Home country !!!! And who would have thought 'Billy Elliot' could be so fit !! Channing Tatums a bit of alright too !! lol

LOVED this movie, wish it had been longer! I'm so sick of 'epic quests' that take themselves too seriously. I still felt the gravity/emotion of their journey, but I didn't feel like I was sitting through a lecture on the human condition. Also, Jamie Bell is gorgeous

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the example of a bad trailer, spoils major plot twist, showcase almost every fight scene in an action movie. Wtf was the trailer maker thinking?

Strange how the Picts spoke Gaelic in this film. The Gaelic language was not spoken here until around 600 years later. Little is known of the language of "The Painted People".

Most linguists believe the Picts probably spoke the Ancient British language similar to Welsh. The Surviving Brythonic descendants today are - Cornish, Welsh, and Breton.

I have watched the film just now (bluray version) , it was awesome especially the battle scene which they try to save roman slaves doing tetsudo and then circle with shieldmen

Since every other comment is stupid and meaningless, I guess i'll post one that is meaningful. This movie was great 9/10. Great message, great story, great acting, everything about it was fantastic. There is no biased view or good or evil side. This movie really shows that in war there really is no good or bad side, only good and bad people. Each side has a story, each side has heart and soul. In all we are all just humans and this movie did a great job of showing this.

The book was a favorite read of mine when I was a child in the early 1970s. So pleased to see that the writer Rosemary Sutcliff has gotten some belated recognition. Will someone please remove the spam from these comments?

@@alexbox8967 Gladiator is by far better and accurate about their cultura than this shit, which portaits americans in their shoes. It's not about language but the cultural and mentality differences. And I only watched about 30 mins of this movie. - "the army" trying to save their buddies from brittish tribes at the beginning, has the US mentality of saving their soldiers at core. Romans were about the pride, not stupidity... -the collesium, gladiator scene of everyone giving thumbs down, then changing their minds because of "heart warming" moment, which portraits american culture at it's best, or even "christianity". Romans were pretty temper and hot headed. Bullshit movie mate..

Tatum doesnt belong in movies like that.... It makes it unwatchable for me

I was sort of forced to watch this movie, but I was really surprised. I enjoyed it a lot, haha. Refreshing to see a story set in ancient times but not necessarily about the civilization as much as it's about these two guys, trust, and survival.

This is an Awesome movie! Do let anyone else tell you otherwise!

The movie has historically inaccuracies though, the Picts fought completely naked, and they didn't use fully wooden spears, they had metal tips. Also, Hadrians Wall wasn't built because they lost a legion, it was because the Romans didn't see a use in Scotland, so they left it alone. They built the wall so they didn't have to have a large army manning the border.

Hello. I know this is a long while since you posted but I have a rather good story regarding why ALL the Romans are American. The Producer told me this himself at the premiere. It was to represent them as an Imperialist occupying force like the US in Afghanistan or Iraq. It was done deliberately to stand them aside from the natives who were British, ( or in the Case of the villain Seal leader,where the actor was French but learned Gaelic)

its actually quite close to that we had more tattooss the paint was when we went to war but we did stay in camps and villages like this

I've just finished watching the whole movie,I pretty much enjoy it.A good movie about honour and actually the story tell me that the Rome is not right at everything and the enemy is not wrong at everything.Recommend you to watch this movie.

@TheZiggy112 Oh, also, when the Romans conquered a place they would give that place aqueducts for clean water, plumbing for sewerage, miltary protection from tribal enemies, full Roman citizenship for the civilians of the place and they would allow them to keep their religion. The Romans were very fair conquerors and rulers. The Roman Empire was essentially just a conglomerate of European countries, not a land mass conquered by one people.

the only thing we need now is a clip of him holding the eagle, then we wouldn't have to go to the theaters to watch the whole movie :P

@THthefirst Yes, that's very true, the Romans openly took politcal, cultural and design ideas from the Greeks. The Romans did that for most cultures actually. They took ideas and improved upon them massively, almost creating something new. An example of this is Etruscan concrete. It was solid and easy to mold into shape before it set but the Romans added pumice which acted as a glue and bonded the ingredients, increasing the time span of the substance by hundreds of years.
