I remember reading the novel of this movie many many many years ago...how many decades have passed since my teen years...sigh...

I like how you have a bunch of supposedly veteran soldiers fighting in a phalanx and then the entire formation breaks down in 5 seconds

Jamie Bell. Very underated actor

Exciting scene, but there's a reason why it was once said that one Roman soldier was worth any ten barbarian warriors on the battlefield. It was because of their discipline and they used their equipment effectively to neutralize the offense of the enemy. The moment they dropped their shields and broke formation is the moment that it should have been all over for the Romans. In war you never fight the enemy on their terms and in a "fair" fight, or you will be dead very quickly.

Alright everyone form a shield wall to receive the charge. Once they hit our line make sure to break formation, throw your shields away, and turn the battle into little solo fights! Hollywood : I like this guys thinking!

i love how this dude jumps over someone taller than him, while his feet were in water. like hed have to jump 10ft high to be able to jump 6ft high with feet underwater

You tube or A.I. has been recommending these battle scenes lately. Its making me feel ready to go back to battle again. U.S. Navy Veteran here. And highschool wrestling/ football veteran too. Bring it on evil doers. I willing to bet im going to defeat you. Betting with my life. Lets go!!!

"go back to battle" and "US Navy"... does not compute. The US navy swats flies with cannons with virtually no risk to themselves, that is a turkey shoot and not a battle

Only when paired with their shields. the shape of the blade, especially the type of spatha they're using here, is perfect for slashing if it's not hindered by the huge shields.

This is an actual logical formation, and historically accurate with combat formations. So calm down. The movie had many others flaws tho u can bitch about.

@@jrayv No the scene is hollywood fake and shows an immense lack of knowledge of Roman fighting. . When the Romans fought Bodica they were heavily outnumbered 300,000 to 10,000 and the ONLY reason they won was they held the line. Bottom line the Romans didnt break down to individual fighting. It could be used against them as when Hannibal surrounded them because they didnt break the line.

I read a book eagle of ninth legion .The movie is not as same as one.

The Romans were little and they needed work together to defeat their foes. Let's not forget, this battle was supposeddky fought thousands of miles from Rome.

This is true Roaming. The Celts were fierce fighters as well. I thought this was a good movie. Jaime Bell played his part well too.

this is the only movie i've watched with Channing Tatum, and he did a nice job, he is not so good like Jamie Bell, but his performance is pretty decent here.

So inaccurate; in reality legionnaire’s greatly utilized projectiles upon advancing foes and these men would have obviously thrown their shields like giant war boomerangs!
