"Good" technology falling in the hands of the greedy and exploitative is what people are truly afraid off. much like the industrial evolution, it was something good, providing more jobs for the working class and cheaper, more accessible products for everyone, but look where we are today. With the Amazon-like mega corporations exploiting the most vulnerable in society, who says somthing similar won't happen with AI. the possibility of living comfortably, not having to do any boring and tedious jobs, having a machine do all of it seems like a utopia, but exactly who gets to be a part of that utopia is the question.

Agreed!!! Nowadays there are so many ways to escape from reality , so many distractions beyond the "traditional" forms like alcohol or drugs... Social media, Netflix, franchises like Marvel movies , anime , cartoons , videogames just to name a few... People actually connect more with each other based on their favourite tv show than actual compatibility of personalities or even same morals or ethics. This is breaking us as a society for we no longer have the discernment to understand what truly is most important ,like real connections. We place these distractions as a top priority.

@@anam.1800 This is so true! people constantly look for that next quick high and are hooked on instant gratification instead of fixing their reality in front of them. I've been guilty of feeling the constant need to distract to cope especially when I lived in a toxic home environment. Luckily, I realized If I wanted true happiness I had to be present in my life and fix my reality, which gave me the ability to actually escape my toxic home into a healthier space. If we as a society face our realities more then it would be a decreased need to escape it.

@@anam.1800 exactlyyyy! we criminalize and berate people with the traditional addictions like liquor and drugs without realizing so many of us are addicted or at least highly dependent to other forms of escapism, it can be so simple as being too "into" your phone and social media like you said. hell for me personally as a recovering addict who's been clean for almost 2 years, i noticed a switch from drugs to the freaking sims 4 game, as silly as that may sound, it was the control for me. most things are meant to distract us and allow room for complacency. BUT the saving grace is that all of us talking about it and at least trying to figure out a solution want better for the world and the people in it. i really do appreciate comments like yours and most definitely videos like this because it reminds me im by no means the only one out there who wants happiness to be a basic human experience and not something that seems so out of the picture for way too many peoples. it starts with a conversation, and who knows what we'll change!

What worries me most about this dystopia is the root of the problem: intolerance to frustration. Not wanting to "bother" with tedious jobs, not wanting to see "ugly people" (ie real people!), and demanding a digital home help for the most basic functions demonstrate that our world really doesn't want to be forced to do too much nor being dependent on other humans. This makes me worried because what stimulates our brain is the difficulties, and it also causes a sense of humanity. Without human emotional intelligence and without empathy, where will we end up? Because as far as we know, technology helps, but it doesn't solve problems like poverty and wars.

Ur right. Think about it people go gaga over these fucking Amazon products. Anytime anyone offers to give away an Alexa or echo dot as a prize people flock and go crazy. Why? Because it's the new expensive gadget it's all about status. Nobody NEEDS an echo dot. What does it do for you? It allows u to order and look up shit without typing and reading. Ur phone can already do that on its own but u still need to have the phone close and press 1 button that's not even a button. So even pushing one button is too much. True luxury is having a device that's always listening and will order things for u so u don't have to go to the store. That's fucking crazy. Technology used to be about solving problems. Today technology is about viewing living life as fucking problematic. When are we just gonna say fuck it and upload our whole conscious to a virtual world our bodies are pumped with designed drugs and nourishment? Like seriously we're heading for a future where our own physical bodies are obsolete or where u may need an expensive headset just to interact with the world around u.

Yep, because this technology we deal with is made by imperfect people so therefore the machines they create or the "life" they create will ALWAYS falter somewhere. This pandemic, tho? Hehe, i giggle because for all the years it kept talking about the machines coming, taking jobs, etc. when this pandemic hit i got to wondering where are all the machines and tech that was talked about soooo much years before? Where was all the technology that was in the works or whatever to be able to replace people in these jobs? So much hype and when this pandemic hit and put us humans away, how come the businesses couldn't just stay open and have machines in place so that they can keep running? Why worry about the worker shortage and things and just be fine with it? This just shows its been hype and talk. "Some" tech is in place and they are STILL working on trying to get things to where videos like this are saying things will be but still it isn't here yet(still waiting on flying cars) so really there is only so much fear a person should have about this. Not an impossibility but some things are just hype and talk.

This shit scares me. On a primal level.. I got chills multiple times throughout this video such as, the rich living well and providing an escape for the poor while the world is collapsing around them.. meanwhile there's still a HUGE portion of the worth without electricity, water, or easy access to food... So lets build a virtual reality instead to escape & not have to face the facts.. I think this Eagles song puts it quite well: You can Check out anytime you like, but you can never leave. Thats' how its going to be with the VR world. you'll enjoy it more than your actual life and thus spend more time there. You can leave the VR any time but the thought of going back will never go away.

Dude, the future is looking bleak. When I thought of artificial intelligence, this is not what I had in mind. If it's going like this, then there really won't be a need for humans for anything anymore. But then what will humans do when all the jobs have been taken by AI?

Okay, I thought i was being a lil bit crazy when I first thought of this but this video makes me feel like.... I may not be too far off?? I genuinely feel like the further we go into the future, the more detached we're becoming from our present realities, feelings and emotions and we're all living out digital lives v much like the Sims characters we create. I feel like... With the pace technology is going at and the absolute shit we're all going through mentally and w Covid and climate change, this Earth is actually not going to be livable in for actual, real life oxygen breathing human beings. And as time passes, we're just going to keep creating artificial personas in perfect situations to live vicariously through until... Could it be that... Human beings itself will become obsolete and replaced with these cgi robots, ai and other not real shit permanently at some point???? Like, because we're all so miserable, we'll all just end up killing ourselves or the earth will and all that'll be left is the technology we created on our time here? Idk man idk (I swear I'm not high I just think a lot lol)

i think we are definitely further away from the kind of complete jump off you describe. Simply because of resource availability, that's a big thing. The bigger issue is the ideological battle of this technological revolution: specifically between china and the USA. (I actually had a lecture about that recently :D) when we are all 80 years old the world will probably look very different, but first it will be about who's precedents will be followed: china? USA? Europe? i saw another used also mention the transformation of jobs, which is also a valid point. some jobs go away, others come in place. The big thing is, education: education for different jobs, but also general education about programming & robotics. The less people understand about these kinds of things, the more misconceptions and misinformation can spread --> which leads to bad people being able to abuse the situation. (look at what the lack of biology education has done to anti vaxer rhetoric coming back, even though vaccines used to be hailed as miracles of modern science)

  • @OohLa118

But how does an education about the programming of robots actually prevent people from misusing it? Shouldn’t there be more ethical codex and rules be constructed as well? You can give people facts but if their believes don’t align with that, they will simply disregard them.

The only difference is, children grow into real humans with their own mind and thoughts, they start analysing what's right and wrong. But that doesn't happen with AI. Computers can't teach everything to themselves. So it's in the hands of the people creating these technologies to provide the right kind of information. Second, I don't know how popular of an opinion this is, but I genuinely don't understand the hype or demand behind AI influences. From a business perspective, like u said, I actually understand why companies would want robot employees (although when I rise to a position where I need to employ I would employ real people to create more job opportunities; bettering people's lives), but for influencers?! I don't know about others, but the whole reason a fellow human being would even be somewhat of an influencer to me is because they are *HUMAN* like *ME* . It's because I *_relate_* to their talents and struggles. It's because even though a person seems to have his/her own personality, they can completely change to become another person entirely on screen in the case of Actors. It's because a fellow human being is blessed to have a voice that, with or without training, can touch people in the case of Singers. It's because a fellow human being is skilled, imaginative and creative enough to write amazing lyrics in the case of Rap and other genres of music. I'm sorry but how am I supposed to really appreciate whatever I'm supposed to be influenced by when they're literally a robot; a puppet already made to be a perfect symbol of something? Why would I stan or even care for a robot??! Like, AM I MISSING STH??!

my thoughts exactly! it's like these virtual influencer companies missed the point of influencer entirely. but, im trying to not dismiss the idea too quickly. cause a few decades ago the job of influencer didnt even exist. people were still worshipping "traditional", "untouchable" celebrities like actors and supermodels. but these days with the rise of youtube and instagram and how we're more connected to one another, society in general is more "influenced" by someone whom they feel like they can relate to, aka KZreadrs etc. Thats why supermodels hardly exist anymore, its Instagram models who are taking the throne in the modeling world. I doubt anyone wouldve expected this two decades ago, so unfortunately id wager theres a big possibility society could somehow turn their interests towards the virtual world instead.

@@knongknongs, Yeah, in regards to the virtual influencers, I feel like some real life people who use these virtual characters use them to hide their insecurities. I remember seeing this female virtual KZreadr who was told by fans to do a face reveal; all she did was remove her character's makeup. I think the usage of these digital characters is similar to people using special software to change some aspects of their face; as a way to escape their insecurities, instead of directly treating and respecting them. In regards to the future of virtual reality, a wise man once said, "It's cool to get on the computer, but don't let the computer get on you. It's cool to use the computer, but don't let the computer use you. Y'all saw The Matrix. There's a war going on. The battlefield's in the mind. And the prize is the soul. So just be careful. The thing about AI is that it soley focuses on creating things that people want based on a biased amount of data. The way it creates art is in the same way, by putting together images and tunes based upon a general understanding of what people like and want. When human artists create art, it's rarely based upon what people want or an amassed amount of data that they've spent years collecting Human art is created through experimentation and feeling which is why it surpasses anything ever made by an AI.

Death was no longer feared, you could commit crimes without causing any real trouble, every question in the world was answered, and so on. But bc death was wasn’t possible anymore, people would hav the burden of becoming scythes and kill the growing population, doing the all the dirty work. Such scythes became corrupt and ended up killing more people than the required quota. At the end of the series, the “perfect world” went down into flames. People tearing each other down, only with the rest of the world with it.

It is not possible for this technology to create a utopia because it’s inherently evil. The desire to eliminate the need for humans from human society is literally the opposite of the existence of humanity. Creating something to remove the need for billions of humans, with no actual benefit to mankind as a whole is inherently evil. The only people that could ever possibly benefit from this technology is people who are already rich, therefore it was never about humanity, they only developed this technology for themselves from the very beginning. Something that begins evil, for an evil purpose, and continues to be evil, is just evil. Period.

we all know that feeling when elder people comment on how "this generation is fucked up, the world isnt good, medias and technology destroyed everything, damn these kids are only on their phone" we hate that, yes we hate that, but hey. I am gen z so are probably most people watching this video. Gen z hates "Ipad kids" because they have grown up with tablets and that. When gen z will be the oldest generation on earth (if humanity will survive till 2040) it probably will be normal to live or exist in virtual reality, change your appearence by clicks or somehow and stuff like that! Though of that makes me feel disgusted and I am pretty sure it will be here sooner or later. We will turn into these grumpy old people hating on "normal things" for future generation. There will be a lot of bad things, probably humanity will turn itself to live in simulation or as i said, humanity might kill itself till 2040 (maybe 2030). Dont get me wrong, I am into technology, "what if..." future theories and evolving stuff. I guess the fear I am feeling is natural instinc and fear of change, it all might turn out well but i am guessing its only 10-20 percent possible lol. Or maybe it is because of the dystopian apocalyptic movies where robots took over earth (like Matrix) and it just makes me higly uncomfortable. (I also fear that AI will repleace my future job which is translator :´u)

Since I was a kid, I loved the movie “AI”. This has been the ONLY movie that had made me cry. I don’t know why since a kid i understood the ethical issue for humans and also for machines (they created a robot and gave them feelings and they feel it is ok to mess with them). Now as a 33yo, I own a very advanced car. It can drive for me but also I can deactivate that function. The issue, that I cannot completely deactivate that and sometimes, when Im parking too close to something, it thinks im going to crush and it stops and make tons of sounds. NO BRUH, lemme do my shit, and if I wanna crush it, it is my decision. You might think it is stupid what i am saying, but reminds me the movie “I robot” when the robot decided over humans. Hey, If i wanna crush the car or end my life, why you wont let me? It is very complicated.

I heard some of AI music and didn't like it at all. There' something in us that AI could not imitate ever. But I would be happy to afford an intelligent robot that would do all the cleaning and cooking daily routine for me 😄

in the future, ai music would be indistinguishable from like normal human music. it's like computers from when they first came out then being shitty and unreliable and now being really reliable because of years of technological advancements.

Great job, again. I love your channel and topics. You're obviously thoughtful and meticulous when getting your information. The metaverse thing sounded really intriguing. Instead of just video chatting, having a visual world to exist in with the other person. Really fascinating! Yes, with that being said, I'm fearful of our future.

We are living in a dystopian society and the goal is to rid of humans. The only way we can over come this is if we come together but we are too busy arguing about race, religion, gender, politics, & celebrities. We have been divided successfully.

As a Gen X’er … this is terrifying! It’s so far from the way I grew up… I cannot imagine how life will be for my grandson?? Will he climb trees, ride his bike, hang out with friends, play sports?? Or, will he be plugged into a computer living a fake life, while his real body wastes away?? I’m happy I only have about another 30 years on this earth… because I don’t want to be here to experience a fake-ass life!! We already treat the elderly like pariahs… gross to look at, and useless. But, at the same time older people who choose to have plastic surgery are looked down upon. We just can’t win! And, the racist factor is disgusting!! As if our society isn’t divided us enough?! Just another aspect of life that people of color will be left out of… or at the very least have to struggle more with!! I had hoped that the future would bring more unity and spiritual growth!! This looks very bleak!! I pray that I’m wrong.

I rewatch the Social dilemma every 6 months to remind myself technology has already gone too far. We already as humans have been trying to resolve discrimination issues with gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status and religion since the dawn of man... yet we want to let AI who doesn't have a moral compass run the show? Facebook has already proven this is a disaster. Also when will people acknowledge that none of our technology is safe? I am constantly dealing with hackers and con artists... if you down the track are able to essentially upload your consciousness to a computer, whose to say it's safe from hacking or corruption? Great video as always. Hopefully people realise this is bad news and vote no by not participating when the facebook metaverse becomes available. :) P.s.Love the quick flash of Moby and the void pacific choir.

Terrifying. I'm actually GLAD that I'm old & that I won't be alive to see where all this winds up, & that I didn't bring children into this world to be robbed of the true experience of life. But I'm also glad to have been born when I was, to witness this epic plot twist in the story of mankind. When I say, "Back in my day, things were different," I can say it with conviction! Human beings, as a species, are doomed to extinction. And the World will be a better place, a real place, full of beauty & danger & life again. The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire!
