I'm not a drummer, but I love the way it cracks ! Feels like I want to buy one myself and insist the drummer to use it every time we jam.

I am totally sold with this drum! I am at the moment contemplating having a DW kit next year for my 40th birthday and I’ve decided to definitely have a complimenting edge snare drum 🥁 I think this drum sounds absolutely incredible especially in the High tuning range there is so much clarity but at the same time it was a beautiful warm very musical snare drum! The ghost notes were very clear along with the articulation of the grace presses

Same here maybe you should buy two and send one my way. These are in my opinion worth the price they demand.....considering you will have it on a very special occasion, happy birthday for when you turn 40.

My 14x6 is more often then not my go to drum. Wide tuning range and when you need volume it delivers. Great review. Nice to hear all the different tunings and cross sticking. The DW true hoops feel nice to lay into IMO.

I've heard a lot of mixed things about the edge snares. On the one hand, this one you're playing sounds awesome! I've heard other people say that it sounds really 'boxy' and choked. I would consider getting one if I had a local DW dealer, but I've no way to try one out for myself

I have wanted one of these drums for years. Never actually played one before though. You think I would have one from over the years (was up to 16 snares at one point) but I’ve never gotten one before. As far as DW snares I own a DW Collectors 5x14 10+6 Maple snare that I had made in 1996 and a DW Black Brass 5x14. In the most recent couple of years, my favorite snare has been a Ludwig 6.5x14 402 Aluminum snare. That thing is incredibly versatile.

I AM DRUMMER oh hell yeah bro, check out some drum tracks from dirt, you hit it right on the spot! And the snare itself is absolutely wicked, I love that warm gunshot sound from it!

I have one of these, it has some good qualities, it does tend to have some difficult overtones at some timings, sensitivity is amazing, it also is tricky to get it to sound awesome on tape, I had to ditch it for a maple yamaha more than once recording

Recording can be a real trip at times. Dave Weckl has an arsenal of snares for the Masterplan album but always came back to an old beat up Kent snare he was given from a neighbor. Sometimes the drum you expect to nail the sound can be far from it. Recently I used an old no name brand brand to get a tone that the engineer needed, this thing was held together with glue in some parts but it worked.

Hi thanks for this video! I recently acquired one of these (a bit older). It has ambassadors on both sides. What are you using on the snare side? Would an Ambassador snare side be too heavy? I'm getting a more choked sound. Thank you ;)

It was a while ago but if it wasn't that stock reso head it was most likely a Evans Hazy 300 with a coated G1 on top, how tight are the snare wires?

@@IAMDRUMMER I did experiment with everything. I was comparing it to a maple custom absolute I had next to it which was brighter off the batter (with a G2 on it); and I have a very dry space that I play. However, when I brought it to a rehearsal in a brighter room it really sang. It cut through everything with a surprising warm quality. Interesting! I had a Copperphonic that sounded beautiful alone but when I gigged (cafe jazz) all of the subtleties were lost and it sounded like cardboard. Interesting how you need to thoroughly test all gear in context. The Edge is a real winner in the end. Heavy as f$#% though ;) Thanks again!

Funnily I had a similar experience when I took my Yamaha Copper out to a few gigs, in the rehearsal space it was amazing but live it was horrible. After several head configurations it was just night right in a live setting to the point some band members and even an engineer said it had an odd tone to it that didn't fit in the mix.
