MGK fans love his music. But no matter how much they love his music, no Hiphop or Rock/Metal fans will ever allow him in their podium of respected artists. He’s had opportunities to really be respected but his claim to attention has literally been picking feuds with already well respected legends in the music scenes he’s been a part of. I know that both times, the legends in question said some things about him before but it’s clear MGK tries to fuel the fire to gain attention. It works but he ends up biting the dust in the end with his fans being the only ones choosing his side.

Brilliant PR move by Taylor - taking up a conflict with MGK because in contrast Slipknot could almost appear like a real rock/metal band at first glance, at least for younger semesters.. I really don't care about this MGK guy - somehow I know way more about him than I want to know as little as it is to begin with, and his music is not included here because I don't know any of it and couldn't even identify it as his if I by accident heard it play in a supermarket or a children birthday party. Actually I should despise him because I'm a core punk rocker since I had turned 14 or 15 - this stuff goes deep and concerns matters of (sociocultural) identity, it's nothing you could just switch over night, not a style you can just adopt without making it a shallow parody. It's literal cultural appropriation, only in a "minor" form without neocolonialist undertones as usually the case if the expression comes up. Slipknot on the other hand are a gimmick band who had been at the right place at the right time to take advantage of the nu metal fad carried by fiveteen year olds. As it happens I had been fiveteen years of age back then, I had been there and let me tell you: In comparison to the average Slipknot fan the enjoyers of Limp Bizkit had been highly cultured, with the better part of them not taking the band for particularly serious. The Slipknot kids on the other hand took their whole shtick extremly so, just like the pimple-ridden 100 lbs black metal guy with long hair but sparse beard growth for his age living in his mom's basement ordained with ridiculous faux-medival wallhanger weapons who likes to think he would have been a widely known sung berserker back in the day and empowered by the old gods to slay the meek followers of a meek foreign idol left and right but has to hide his ancestral cravings to keep the appearence of accepting the limitations imposed by modern society, the guy who loves to imagine people exchanging fearful whispers behind his back, who thinks he would get seen as a pretty dangerous individual, he's wearing a black leather coat, an inverted cross which is still incredibly shocking to people even though 6 decades have passed as well as bracelets with spike studs after all - people surely think he's just returning from a child sacrifice and had an amazing orgy with at least 17 goth chicks directly afterwards.. But in contrast to the black metal head who has adopted the pretentious pose of the genre the Slipknot folks are pretending the pretentious pose. It's what a twelve year old imagined a metal band to be - that's why I'm quite amused about Corey's entitlement, him claiming a legitimacy and relevance in rock/metal related subculture Slipknot just doesn't have.
