The problem with Bangladesh cricket is a problem the whole country suffers from. It is the absence of a meritocratic system. In Bangladesh people get hired on the basis of who favours them rather than their technical ability, in and every sector. Bangladesh cricket is a representation of the downfall of the entire country.

Nowadays Bangladesh's cricket team is a joke to Bangladeshis, including me. Everyone blames the corrupted cricket board. But in my opinion, our cricket never deserved much hype. We never EVER even had a prime. The best we could do is to somehow beat minnows Scotland and an off form England team to get to the quarter finals of the 2015 cwc. That was the only time we ever got to the knockout stages of a world cup. To be honest, our media and fanbase hypes our team too much. Now, we should think of our national team as a growing force, but a minnow in cricket. We have managed to create two greats, like Tamim Iqbal, one of the best left handed opening batsman, and Shakib Al Hasan, arguably the best all rounder in cricket history.

A downfall is only possible if there were an uprising. For Bangladesh, there were never any uprising. BCB is run by a person who is in his seat only because of his political bias. Players need hard practice, different bouncy pitches and professionalism (Yes, Mr. Al Hasan needs to disciplin himself. He thinks and behaves as if he owns BCB. I wonder what could be the reason behind it except for any political influence). And Bangladesh cricket need a fair-minded selectors board.

You have a fair point there. The top level in the cricket board is quite the reason foruchbof the issues in the team. While that is a problem, it is also worth noting that the person at the top is there not just because of political will, but also because there's no "better" alternative to him at the current stage. In any case, the board president must know his time is limited and must ensure there is a clean transition to whoever is his replacement. Unfortunately I'm not very aware of how the bureaucracy works in Bangladesh, but to be a professional team, you need a professional board that serves the team and not the other way around. Does the board have anyone who can fill his shoes? I hope there is a former great player who can step up to the role and can command respect from the players and use his experience to treat the players with respect. Tamim Iqbal retirement was a sad and shameful story. No player deserves that kind of treatment for what he has contributed. All the best to a very passionate team Bangladesh. Hope you're future is bright.

I know the team in 1999 started slow and they did struggle but I remember they showed glimpses of greatness in 2005 and 2007 by upsetting Australia and India. I also started seeing them beat West Indies and New Zealand in series. Playing Quarter Finals Bangladesh board is also the 5th most funded. The team has disappointed as of late.

BCB president Najmul Hasan Papon and his allies did nothing to develop our domestic cricket structure and standard. And Chandika Hathurusingha is responsible for our team's disasterous performance in the recent ODI world cup. He likes experiment. He destroyed entire team combination and player's confidence through his stupid experiment.

You talk like if before Hathurusingha Bangladesh has reached many finals and semi finals. They have been abysmal outside their home, when was the last test they won outside home? Apart from T20 the Bangladesh team has always struggled. Till the time they keep playing on pitches that we see in Bangladesh, they will keep losing away from home, they need to have a good domestic circuit that allows for overall development of skills, not just to boast stats when playing at home.

@@fuzzy_suii Yes!! But some people are too negative. I know BCB is corrupted. But not all the players are corrupted. That's just what media has made them look like. If you watch the matches it's clear that Mushi, Mahmudullah, Miraz and some other do try with their best in the field!! Not all of them are playing for money. Maybe 1/2 can be. But that's not sure either. We should be more positive than negative. There had been improvements. But some bad people inside had done the damage not the players themselves. Otherwise Bangladesh really was great in 2022. They could've done better if they carried on but Hathuru did experiments and balance of the team was broken! And never been fixed after that because he kept experimenting anyway.

Tha main problem is the media of bangladesh.They are not habituated of finding their loop holes of bangladesh cricket team,,ironically they criticise about India when India looses any match & also starts writing blogs against India.These are absolutely rediculous,,it is useless to criticise about others & better they should criticise about their own performances & once they will start doing this & they will find soon that the standards of Bangladesh cricket team got improved

They do criticize their own cricket a lot as well. But the problem is our facilities aren't improved enough even though there's enough fund. Always there's bowling friendly pitches. Not enough domestic leagues. Players doesn't even get to play enough. (Probably wouldn't even matter because of bowling pitches) Lots of negatives here.

If I have to say anything about that match. Your team played well. But Australia was the better team on that day. Australia set really attacking fielding which prevented you from scoring much. They bowled well as well. And their fielding was actually even better. Your openers had the same strategy as they had in the whole tournament. Giving a flying start and then carrying on slowly from that. But in the middle overs they couldn't do much that day. Your team should've applied different strategy. That strategy of "flying start" following with "slowly carrying on in the middle overs" was clear as crystal. And that failed you. Even if India scored 280+ then it'd have been a fight probably. When Australia came to bat at first they got a little shaky start but then they started to settle down and try to hit the loose balls. They succeeded. Also I think maybe dew was a factor. Later Head and Labushchagne didn't even give any chance. It got easier for them as they kept scoring more runs and it was outta reach of India soon. And nothing much happened later. Pretty much comfortable win for Australia. Siraj should've bowled earlier I think. I wonder what was going on in Rohit's mind.

Honestly many of them don't even know shit about cricket. They only watch it when there's world cup and act like they know everything. And some of them are even the reason of increasing dramas in our cricket. Like what they're doing about Shakib and Tamim. They like to talk more about these dramas than about how to improve our cricket. If they talked more about improvements we already would've made some improvements. But people don't realize that while only criticizing players they don't do any kinda help to cricket instead the opposite. Also I hate those blind Tamim fans. Tamim is nothing but but a below average opener. Maybe a bit better in test format but still overall a below average opener. But some are so blind they even think Tamim is one of the best opener in the world!! The actual big problem is the Management section. This is the reason the whole country suffers from. They only hire people on those who "favor" them rather than their actual experience and ability. Besides, the Shakib-Tamim rivalry caused far more suffering. They COULD be a better team with the support of actually experienced players, great coaches, and most importantly, a balanced management team that is absent. Many fans buy the jerseys to support their team from the bottom of their heart. But when they see the disastrous downfall of the team, they feel like they bought this for zero reason, and is a waste of money. Like many fans, I also bought the CWC2023 jersey (also my first time buying a cricket jersey and it's authentic). But the disaster results of the team is just, dissapointing.

Very well said. I think making Hasan, Hridoy, Tanzid, Tanzim play in this World Cup was one of the worst decisions!! They were no way prepared to play in the World Cup!!! Some would probably think that they deserved to play. Maybe yes. But deserving isn't enough. You need to stay prepared which would've taken at least 6 more months for them! Hathuru did too much experiments.

Bangladesh's national anthem is written by an Indian, the language that Bangladeshi speaks was originated in India.... In foreign countries many Bangladeshis run their resturant and businesses with the name of India, they know want is the value and reputation of India... They are not even this bad if we are being honest

the main probelm is the lack of infrastructure and open fields. playing grounds count is getting lower day by day, hence kids can't play cricket properly. and the sheer pressure of studies nowadays force many talented players to drop out in a young age. kids are more interested in wasting their times on social media and online game instead of actual sports. we have to change the mindset of guardians who think kids should just study get gpa 5, get into good varsity and marry. that's not everything in life. they should let their kids engage in sports too.

Yeah. Society is the root of all this. Parents even force their kids in things they don't like at all. I mean the field of study. For me I always wanted to study from science but was pretty much forced to study from Business Studies. And I have been successfully a failure. I always wanted to be a cricketer as well. But never got even a tiny bit of support from anyone. Ig I lacked strong will as well in my childhood. I was more like "whatever parents think might be better, I'm a child after all" until the age of 20 ig. But that was too late. I think most kids are like that. In their childhood they think parents always does the right thing. But in that they actually lose opportunities of their own goals, aims in life. And later regret for the whole life.

As a Bangladeshi, we are very much happy our dream than reality😅.We are too imotional. Bur at the end our cricket board and players never give the value of our unconditional love. It is hard to say as a die hard cricket fan we lost our heroes like Mahmadullah, Shakib,Mashrafee,Mushfiqur,Tamim.Then our downfall start....If this situation continue we all BD fan hope that Team Bangladesh shoul ban from all cricket activities..It's very hard to say... We have more than enough quality bowlers and all rounders but nowadays batsmen are more important. We never had a consistent batsman in our history. Shakib showed sign of a top order batsman in his prime (2011-2016) but otherwise always looked like he would be a 6th batter in a quality team plus had that amazing performance in 2019 WC. Tamim and Musfiq only peaked in the later half of their career.

@@bobhawke7373 As a Bangladeshi, I may have bias but Shakib is underrated. In Sachin's time there was Kallis, similarly in Virat's time it has to be Shakib. While Sachin, Kallis and Virat are almost always a top ten greatest cricketer of all time, most list don't even put Shakib in top 50!

Downfall happens to come to a successful team. They showed some glimpse but never were into the game .Also there are some serious problems with the team.firstly they do not respect their opponent.They always abuse senior players of other teams. Sledging is good but should be done when you are capable enough.

5:13 as a lifelong shakib fan i disagree with you, Jacques Kallis is the "greatest All rounder" , he can even claim the case for best cricketer ever. Shakib is one of the greats and i whole-heartedly wish he breaks the 8000 runs and 400 wickets record .

The concept of pulling great cricketers out of their retirements is lacking nowadays but unfortunately it has affected the progress of many teams in the negative sense during the 2023 World Cup and Bangladesh cricket team is not far from it's reality.Imagine if cricketers like Tamim Iqbal, Mashrafe Mortaza and Alok Kopali were pulled out of their retirements then Bangladesh might have avoided losses against Netherlands and Pakistan in 2023 World Cup in order to qualify 4 semi finals.If Bangladesh does not wants to see it's cricket team getting dissolved (like Kenya) then selectors should stop hiring players on age and religion and they should rather focus on hiring 100% on basis of player's form only.

Unnecessary aggression, arrogance, over confidence behavior on the ground even from their senior players like shakib, mushfiqur, taskin, mustafizur is the main reason why they never got up to the level. Hatred towards the opponent teams the worst. This all started with the debut of mushfiqur and shakib. Bangladeshi respect these players as their legends for no reason. Defeat the juggernauts. Who watch and generate revenue. England is only overrated team who get more fund than it generate. India and Aussie don't need those peanuts as their bilaterals, domestic and media rights generate bulk of the fund for them. Bangladesh has more people and definitely more fund than afganistan. The country is economically more stable than pak, srilanka and afgan. The problem lies in their playing format and mindset.

@@indf3782 Right. But I think maybe their mindset ain't always bad. It's just that our country's pitches are always made bowling friendly that's why they don't get to learn much. Like they don't know how to bat in batting friendly pitches, how to bowl in batting friendly pitches. I think both bowlers and batters struggle just because of the "home advantage" thing in our country. Also there aren't much game played in the domestic over the year. In my opinion the authorities are more responsible than the players. Players are even afraid of their career getting destroyed that's why they don't talk about some things to the higher ups.

Irish central contract worth more than the Kangladeshi central contract. A fresher from India's top engineering colleges and business schools make more than a top Kangladeshi cricketer.

Most professional or first class Cricketers play all year round. They gain valuable experience playing in different world league's all over English County Cricket, The IPL, The Carribbean and other T20 leagues all over the World. Smaller Country's like Bangladesh don't have enough players playing in these leagues. The game is growing and evolving all the time and now we're seeing a league that some Country's are playing in like the U.S. The more round the World experience these teams players can play in, the more likelihood these players will gain the experience and growth required to play a side with the necessary experience to play in many Countries conditions and weather and pitches and different balls that do varying things, that others do not. All this comes down to the experience and knowledge and growth. The West Indies is another Country that's underperforming as a nation and were once a powerhouse of Cricket.
