The Down Side of Being A Physician Assistant
Peace be to you (AsSalama'laikum) all! I have been a medically licensed Physician Assistant for almost 16 years. I was asked to discuss this topic. I honestly can't accurately compare being a Physician Assistant to being a Doctor, because I haven't been an MD or DO. I only have three "cons" that I could consider: less money, less prestige, less autonomy, less knowledge (than the MD/DO). However the "pro" to this is: less student loan debt, less accountability, more time to engage in other aspects of one's life. PA vs MD/DO is a VERY personalized decision. I am a VERY dedicated family man. And have a great passion foe community service. I am also a fitness, science, and education enthusiast. Being a PA has allowed me to pursue these interest. I hope my circuitous answer helps some people make decisions about their academic choices and careers! I have REALLY enjoyed being a Physician Assistant for all these years! I love the thing he said towards the end "I can't think of too much downside to being a PA", however, I think the people who choose to go towards the PA profession do not care so much for the prestige and the autonomy is something that comes with experience and trust obviously but this was a great video. Does not deter me from pursuing my goal of being a PA.
