That’s the theme they are going for in this series. It’s part of the plot and the over arching narrative. Emperor=really bad. Vader=bad but sympathetically bad with a spirit of vengeance for the slights he has been given. It’s really good villain writing.

Can you imagine being Vader trying to catch the brat who crashed his bosses car only to find out it was his own son? No wonder he looked so aged under that helmet

I think this was a huge part of how Palpatine controlled Vader. He always put Vader in horrible straights that fueled his anger but would eventually give him the chance for vengeance. This was basically a dopamine hit to give his apprentice some measure of satisfaction. It never occurred to me until now that Vader was basically in an abusive relationship with Palpy.

I actually liked Tagge from the movie. He seemed like one of the more level headed Imperial Officers, not outright hostile towards Vader like Motti either. Had a realistic view on what the Rebellion was capable of and didn't blindly trust in the power of the Death Star. Also why would an Imperial Army general being commanding the Imperial Fleet?

He was made Supreme Commander, which gave him authority over all military forces. Think General Douglas MacArthur during WW2. Even though MacArthur was an Army officer, he still had full authority over all other troops, regardless of service branch.

You'd think after witnessing what Darth Vader did to Tagge, Admiral Ozzell would have been more careful.

Tagge actually had a fair bit of respect for Vader. His only flaw was that he unwittingly allowed Cylo to take over the Executor. Had that not happened, Vader might have let him live, knowing, as he did, Tagge’s strategic brilliance.

Despite being a man obsessed with graphs and analytics, Tagge was a fool. A truly smart commander would have spoken with Vader privately and come to terms with him. He no doubt had information on how many imperial officers that Vader had...retired during his career. If he and Vader had come to an understanding, made it look like Vader was being punished for the emperor. He might just have lived long enough to see some of his ideas come to fruition, as well as having Vader's backing, not as a friend, but at least as someone Vader had a mutual respect for.

Apparently he missed the safety briefing about not pissing off the giant murder borg.

That's always been conflicting Canon though Vader really *DIDN'T LIKE THE DEATH STAR* so in essence 3:10 or so in when Tagge mentions "Tarkin's Folley" Vader really canonically speaking should've agreed there are multiple source materials with Vader disapproving of The Death Star

@@laneneely1077 From what ive read and seen, he really didnt like Tarkin but respected him for the most part. Tarkin's vision of a weapon that would make all systems cower when mentioned would be great for the Empire, but making it a Single Station was the biggest mistake. Many people shared this sentiment but kept quiet due to fear of "opossing" the Empire; even Thrawn saw it as a massive risk to focus so many resources, especially when the Fleet/Navy could be improved further to be far better trained and equipped.

@Lontracanadensis tis what I referred to as saying *MULTIPLE* He does To Krenic in Rogue 1, He does in the books including Thrawn Alliances when he flat out basically tells Thrawn he agrees 100% against the Death Star & wants More Capital Ships & Annnd *TIE DEFENDERS* He tells Thrawn "I will personally tell The Emperor I agree with you not only on the amount of waste in the death star but I want your Capital ships & Tie design to be pushed through" mind you Rogue 1 is Disney Era so both Lucas & Disney & the in-between books, comics fan made, most lore more consistently says "Vader is NOT Keen On The DS Project"

It was Vader's punishment for the Death Star's destruction. Tarkin and Motti were dead. Someone had to answer for it, and since Vader was the highest ranking person to survive (not to mention one of the few), he was the fall guy.

Vader did nothing wrong, the Emperor knows Vader did nothing wrong and objectively. There would be no way to blame Vader for anything that went wrong, because he was always against the idea of the death star in the first place.

What Cassio Tagge failed to see is that his power relied on paper, someone named him a commander, others acknowledge it. Darth Vader's power comes from The Force, he is powerful regardless of what others say. And a Paper Tiger like Cassio Tagge will always be shred to pieces by an actual Tiger.

They should make this into a live-action mini-series.

More than one person tried their crap with Vader. They did not realize that Captain Respirator was Palpi McScrotumface’s right hand. A rather unfortunate oversight.

I think Tagge was put there to kind "punish" Vader by the Emperor - let a lesser person essentially boss him around a bit. But in the end, when Tagge failed, the Emperor, knowing al about Vader's humiliation by the smug noble, and wanting to set an example, let Vader be the one to essentially punish Tagge. After all , Vader was Palp's enforcer. Keep the others in line with fear.

The one thing he should have remembered, was that Vader was that apprentices can be hard to replace, commanders not so much.

@@helghast1149 Given the comics, Vader draws a fine line to most Imperial officers, and a finer line to those who got the position through influence and politics than military achievements. Those directly assigned under his command like the Inquisitors are also seen to hold similar if not greater disdain more or less directed to non-military branches.

I always thought the force-chokeng thing was a bit soft, for a man like Vader who lives life suffering ceaseless pain from the dark side, almost like some act of kindness. Especially when I think of reality, such as hung drawn and quartering, the iron maiden, or even the modern electric chair. Seems Vader is a humanitarian after all.

Guy claded in black armor, uses a crimson laser sword, some magic gestures to kill others and pull big thigns around, is always in direct order from the Emperor, a totalitarian figure, head of this new bloody regime and for some reason ppl think is a good idea to mess with this towering man machine fulled by rage and contempt. Yeah... The lack of self awareness is strong in the ranks of the Empire. No wonder they lose so much.

This entire thing doesn’t work. Tagge was stationed on the Death Star, no evacuation was ever ordered and there is no way he survived that explosion.
