    Tank Gang: Tank enthusiasts Tanker: Truck which carry large tanks full of liquid, usually fuel or water. Can be used for the trucker who drive it as well. Tankie: Authoritarian leftist, typically Leninist, Maoist, or Stalinist.

    Or in more literal examples, "Tankie" as in anyone thinking that the Soviets sending in tanks to quell the Hungarian Uprising, or the Chinese tanking up the Tiananmen, was a good idea. ...most leftists think those are low points of history.

    Tankies pretty much always have a terrible result. I'm all for lefty ideals probably left of progressive, but violent takeovers are situationally rife for a cult of personality who's just going to tell you whatever you want to hear to gain your loyalty and claim power. Power belongs to the masses, not a few 4$$3$.

    Besides the Siegfried Line being dated back from the Inter-War Period, when biplanes were the norm and more than 2x 30. Cals on your fighter was considered to almost be approaching Overkill; it also REALLY didnt help that most of the newest/non-obsolete weapons and equipment got stripped from the Siegfried Line to help build up the Atlantic Wall covering... Well, the Atlantic; and the various Ostwalls built on the Eastern Front (aka "Ost Front") as the Germans fought their fighting retreat trying to delay or hopefully even stop the Soviet Advance (They were rarely effective, as each time they pulled back to the next defensive line; it'd happen so quickly that there hadn't been much construction time available and the lines were usually rushed or incomplete in areas weakening it. So the Soviets would end up breaking through faster than tf it'd been properly and completely built, forcing them to fall back faster to the next defensive line, rinse, repeat.) The Siegfried Line got stripped so extreme to the point they'd even remove the metal doors, etc from concrete emplacements to reuse on other "More important at the moment" defensive lines. Then after D-Day succeeded, the Siegfried Line was ordered to hastily be rebuilt. So it had ALL kinds of problems reducing its overall strength and effectiveness. Besides just dozering and packing dirt into the Dragons Teeth and simply walking/driving over the whole thing bypassing it entirely; my other favorite Siegfried Line story was a German Officer or something who said he knew the war was lost when "The Americans are sniping us with 155mm guns". This was because while the M12 and M40/43 were actually self propelled guns/howitzers (Mounting an artillery gun into a casemate built on a tank hull/body, giving your guns better mobility and allowing them to be set up, shot, and moved much faster than towed artillery) and intended to be used as artillery guns, we Americans would creep our M12s up a slope/hill staying hull down, then peek the gun over the ridge like "Killroy" and almost point blank (for an artillery gun) blasting concrete bunkers with their 155mm gun using either High Explosive rounds, or AP rounds designed specifically to be an anti-concrete round for use against fortifications. I know the M4s with the 105mm howitzers had HEAT round for the same purpose, but I'm not sure about the 155mm. So with that tangent over, and along with all the OTHER issues it had; there was no way the Siegfried Line could EVER even be as stong as German Propaganda claimed.

    The winch was never meant to pull it out of a ditch. It was meant to help take off/put on the exterior tracks. The idea was the crew could mount and dismount the tracks by themselves. There is also a video by the museum and Sofilein of them putting the exterior tracks back on it. They used 2 M88s to do it. And its designation is T28/T95 Gun Motor Carriage. T95 with the exterior tracks, T28 without. And yes, it can operate without the exterior tracks. Plus, the exterior tracks are for weight distribution. The picture he showed of them behind it, was meant for transportation when it's on its own.

  • @Myomer104

    @Myomer104

    21 күн бұрын

    The two designations are because of its core design and bureaucratic debate, not the tracks (That was an invention by Wargaming for World of Tanks so that they could put it in the game twice, an invention that War Thunder would later copy.): 1) It's designed to break through enemy lines, a role doctrinnally held by heavy tanks. The next project number available for a heavy tank was 28, thus T28. 2) It has no turret, so it was temporarily reclassified as a self-propelled gun. The next available project number for those was 95, thus T95. It would flip-flop a couple of times during development, but the last decision before the project ended was that it was a heavy tank, so its designation permanently became T28.

    Ah yes...the T95...that was a great unique Tank-Destroyer to play in WoT, my strategy was hug one of the Side-Edges of the map (To use the Map-Boundary as a Rear-Guard in Emergencies) and slowly advance on the "Front-Line" BUT always making sure to keep a backup Team-Mate close behind me at all times...and if my backup tank gets destroyed then I quickly put my T95 in REVERSE and Back-Track until I get to a new backup Team-Mate

    At the end of the day the "best" of anything is what you can bring to the field and use in a sittuation that presents itself. Any Gimick build to counter a specific thing or to deal with a specific issue will usually be quite bad as a general purpose tool. Which is why I would say the overall "best" tank of WW2 has to be one that saw massive use over a large frontline in all kind of sittuations and still did it's job. And then there is no contender. The T-34 was the workhorse of the Red Army. Can you find tank models that did specific stuff better than the T-34? Certainly. But the T-34 was everywhere and it just worked. The Sherman is certainly a contender. But the T-34 has the M4 beat in both numbers and in how early it saw large scale deployment on the main frontlines.

    My favourite tank is the Panzer III Ausf E. Which probably is on nobody's list of favourite tanks. It is the main gun tank of the German Army of the beginning of the war armed with a 37mm gun, the armour is nothing to write home about (granted a lot of tanks in 1939 and 1940 were not heavily armoured aside from the French Char B1 and British Matilda). I just like the looks of it. It is not a Panzer IV, not a Panther or a Tiger or Tiger B. By the way, the T28 that was behind those bushes, was also "hiding" in an open field. Not in some heavily forrested area. Granted there are forrested areas around it, but still.

    I think the T28 would win in a fight 1v1 on the German Maus. Look that one up. It was so big, enemies couldn't miss it, but the armor was so thick that nothing short of a 105mm gun would pierce it. Thankfully the T28 has a 105mm main gun. Without the outer tracks the T28 would sink into the soil, not mud, soil, like quicksand. Horrific ground pressure.
