    You don't have to go digital to get accurate readings. Digital's work by measuring the compression of a spring - if the spring weakens then you get a false reading. What you need is good quality.

    I think you would want to also test if there are major differences based on how you stand/lean. I know my scale at home is super accurate as long as I stand on it EXACTLY the same way. The second I stand 1" off or lean forward or back just slightly then it will fluctuate up to + or - 3 pounds.

    Been through three scales including two digital scales and the battery slowly goes out without you knowing it and they get funky. I want to know what I actually weigh. I'm getting a medical balance beam scale. I've been on a budget and I understand getting the Walmart job. It's time for me to get a scale that's accurate and doesn't vary.

  • @UnapologeticGeek
    @UnapologeticGeek8 жыл бұрын

    sorry Mike, but those scales run special scam algorithm to FAKE consistency simply by showing the same number over and over even though they're actually reading a slightly different weight. the real test is to weigh yourself with and without a small known weight ( about half a pound ). if the scale shows that 1/2 pound difference it is good. if it shows the same weight twice it's running the bs algorithm. there really aren't any good digital scales at walmart, but with this test at least you will have a good idea of how bad your scale is. if you have a lot of space ( like a basement ) get one of those balance beam scales like the ones at the doctor's office - they have the best accuracy per dollar, but they're huge and you obviously can't travel with them.

    wolverine114 well i use a $400 healthometer professional ( i did unboxing video and review on it ) and i would buy it again. i suggest you get a scale that's more than 20 dollars and one that doesn't look gimmicky and is from a reputable brand and where you can return it if it doesn't pass your tests. if you can stretch your budget a bit for $200 you can get healthometer professional 349klx which is the little brother of the scale i use, and is also the scale used in Bev Francis Powerhouse gym ( number 1 hardcore bodybuilding gym in US ). on the 349klx the numbers never stop moving - it just keeps showing a changing number as you stand on it, so there is no algorithm on it at all - neither honest nor BS one. on my 752kl the numbers stop after about a second, but the algorithm to calculate the final number is honest. on bullshit scales they never show you any numbers at all until it calculates the fake number which is the only number it will show to you.

    I had a feeling that was the case as I was watching this video. Also, the first two scales here were consistent, but at least one of them was consistently wrong. I'd rather have one that fluctuates as much as .2-.4 than one that is consistent, but off by over 1 pound.

    I will probably buy a balance beam scales since I'm now on a diet. Those digital things are pure garbage. And the analog ones isn't much better when you are on a diet and wanting to see the progress. Hell I didn't think I was going to run into such problems when I started dieting.

    Thanks for not telling us the brand. It doesn't matter that much because I don't know anyone that is so anal retentive about their weight that they have to take their scale with them when they travel. FYI I just want my weight. Why would I need a "Smart Scale"? Memory, Bluetooth etc. I have a "Health-o-Meter" that I bought at Target 22 years ago. It is digital with a LCD screen and non charge or replaceable batteries (no 120V AC either). I was concerned about the non replaceable battery life, but 22 years later, it still works like day 1. Nobody will make this quality or lifespan anymore. No! It was less than $20.

    These cheap scales are not all the same. Many round up averages from the last delivered weight and won't shift that number until you move things in quite a large amount either up or down. Effectively making them pointless. You need to see those differences before they're 2+ pounds more or less. In a weight loss situation, every ounce lost needs to be shown to you, to keep you driven. You owe it to yourself to keep things mechanical, and not cheap out here. If you have a digital scale that delivers suspiciously repeating numbers every time you step on it. Test out yours by picking up a half pound weight and see if it changes. Keep adding weight until you see it register as more. Then you'll know the flex it allows, and won't let you see. You are actually using their scam and choosing one based on these factors. It is much MUCH more likely that a real reading would show a slight variance, and also not lock in on a weight. You should be able to bounce on the scale slightly and see the weight go up and down. It should be able to detect you holding a half pound weight. Don't fall for their marketing tricks. The one locking a number and showing the same, is not as you put it "a winner".

  • @g1981c

    @g1981c

    8 жыл бұрын

    +William Dean advanced scales have temperature compensation ... certainly not $20 scales nor even $500 scales really. at least some $500 scales have gravity compensation so depending on whether you're closer to equator or north pole you can adjust for that. balance beam scales are inherently compensated for both temperature and gravity and are a great value if you can deal with their huge dimensions.

    Each object in our "verse" goes through a creation process that, nanoscopicly , cannot be precisely replicated. Nearly the same amount go through shipping and handling by imperfect humans and therefore are inherently different in obvious, yet subtle ways. Your scale, regardless of title or appearance, is different and so you should still have tested it. Congrats btw on choosing the same scale. Whoohoo.

    me to, I have the same scale he picked and I can stand on it 8 different times and get 8 different readings, anywhere off within like a 3lb range. Looking to replace it but haven't yet because I don't know what to buy and Im not spending 200bucks on a balance beam scale. Like others said its sad in the 21st century with all the electronics we have that we can't get a damn accurate digital scale. I don;t want any bells and whistles, I just want an ACCURATE scale, but that seems to be to hard to do.

    This is not a great strategy. I have a Healthometer digital scale that gives me the same weight consistently because it clearly has memory. Even when I pickup something to add weight it returns the same weight it gave the first time until I add a full pound. They are tricking you into believing accuracy with this method.

    You a scale with precision not accuracy, precision is repeatability, accuracy is how true it is. If you weigh 120lbs 4oz and say your weight never changed, a scale that shows you being a different weight every time you use it but it's always near your true weight is a scale that's is highly accurate, but it's not precise and useless to track your weight. Say you weighed 120lbs 4oz and you never gained or lost any weight at all. A scale that consistently says 240lbs 4oz, meaning your true weight (120lbs 4oz + 100lbs) is highly precise, but not accurate. Again if you always weighed exactly 120lbs 4oz and that never changed, a scale that always showed 120lbs 4oz would both accurate and precise.

    Just a little nitpick about the terminology you're using. What you are assessing here is precision, not accuracy. A measuring tool is precise if it gives you the same answer every time. It is accurate if it gives you something close to the correct value (at least on average). A scale that is precise might be out a few pounds, but it will always be out the same amount. Precision is more important if you are simply trying to measure changes in weight, although ideally it's nice to have both accuracy and precision.
