Post natal confinement is practiced by many cultures around the world. Simply put, it's a time for rest and healing for mother and baby. Depending on the situation, it may take a few weeks to few months. From what I seen, in China, this tradition dictates that the one who gave birth should also be cared for and watched over, including watching their diet, body temperature, and amount of rest. In Africa, many cultures don't let the baby out of the house before a full month goes by.
