The Disappearance of Janet Castrejon, Chiricahua Mountains, Arizona. What Happened?

#missinghiker
#unsolvedmysteries
Hello everyone In today's video we will be discussing the disappearance of Janet Castrejon (44) who went missing on June 19, 2015 in Rustler Park in Southern Arizona. She went for a walk with her mother to the campground pay station at which point her mother had to use the restroom.. when she came out Janet had disappeared out of sight. After many search efforts nothing was ever found until....
Years later a hiker was in the same area and came across something that shocked her. After almost a year of testing and various DNA work they confirmed it was in fact the remains of Janet:( Although the family did get some closure, so many questions still linger. What really happened to Janet Castrejon? How could she disappear so fast and so close to the campground? Did she have some kind of medical episode? Did she just get turned around and lost? Possibly but why wouldn't she have called out for help?
Sadly, we will probably never know but I hope and pray that somehow the family will get more answers 🙏
My thoughts and prayers go out to Janet and her family, friends and everyone who knew and loved her🙏🙏
Thank you for watching!

Dear everyone: After reading Janet's story, I thought of a verse that a friend gave me in a time of personal loss and bottomless sadness. It is by the English poet Alferd Lord Tennyson. I walk the hills from end to end, And all the landscape underneath. I find no place that does not breathe, some gracious memory of my friend.

Hi Bryan! Thank you for covering Janet's story, it's really sad that she ended up passing away. It must've been frightening for her even more so since she had a disability due to her car crash a long time ago. I used to work with individuals like that and it can be more challenging for them especially if they got lost while out with family or other people. She must have been so scared. I recall a National Park ranger going missing in Chiriquhua back in the 80's I believe. I'm not sure I spelled it correctly, no worries about pronouncing it. I hope her family finds peace and comfort and may Janet rest in peace 🙏🕊️. I hope you are doing ok. May God bless you this day, and I continue to keep you and your family in my prayers daily. Have a good week.

Mid June in Southern Arizona temps are up to 107 f in the shade. Many have been found just a mile from camp like this. Very sad. Currently with the use of drones, people should be found much easier. Getting a picture from a few hundred feet up is really an advantage that did not exist back then that I am aware of.

Sometimes something mysterious happens to a person's brain, and she was venerable in that way. Foul play still seems a possibility, but unless some advances are made in that regard we'll never know. How she could have died there, mysteriously, that day and not be found seems truly mysterious.

it’s tragic that a person could wander off so close to camp and not be found but obviously it does happen. Possibly she may have had a stroke from the heat and combined with her tbi she became disoriented wandered off and passed. During the subsequent search she was just missed by search dogs and the boots on the ground only to be found three years later. Edit: spelling

Thank you, Bryan, for talking Janet Castrejon case, how sad for her and her parents. As a parent, I can honestly say that we worry about our children just with the day to day. The fact that she became disabled after a car accident is terrible luck. No matter how old your children are- it would be devasting to lose a child at any age. my prayers for Janet and the Castrejon family. May she rest in peace 🕊

My heart goes out to Janet and her parents. I live in southern Arizona and I have been to the Chiricahua mountains many times. It is a very rugged and dangerous place if you're not prepared. There are mountain lions, bears, and numerous rattlesnakes in that area. But. It is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. On a side note. If you check for missing people in this area you should find many more cases in and around these mountains. Some cases go all the way back to the 1930s. Thanks for the video. Great work as always. Keep em coming.

Hey Brian, thanks for sharing. This is in my backyard. Can't believe they couldn't find her. The name of the mountain range is pronounced like this Cheericowa. It's the homestead of Geronimo. He was able to hide from the union army for five years in the country. Mountain lions frequent this area as deer populations are pretty good. Tough name if you aren't from here. I think he means her weight would have prohibited her from getting very far in a short amount of time. The authorities only have the family's version of what occurred, so that might be a factor in sifting g out the truth.

tragic. dehydration is common amongst many persons who either do not drink sufficient WATER. signs of dehydration are confusion and physical as well as mental challenges. janet may have been confused, could not see her mother or family member, wandered away in the wrong direction and in the heat and either fainted or was unconscious and died from hyperthermia. i suffered heat exhaustion and collapse at a seminar in someone’s backyard! always, cold or hot days, drink WATER! stay in the shade! it may save your life.

We hear this on 411 cases, people being found near where they disappear. She may have had a medical episode, or she could have heard the kind of call that ive heard about other people. They suddenly drop what they are doing, and rush off into the woods sometimes never to be found. I dont know if there was some kind of human foul play or if something of high strangness happend, and it was something we cannot explain But I 8:10 am terribly sorry for Janet and her family to have to go through this awful event. There was additional info in this video that I had not heard before. How long was her mother in the restroom? You mention that a cry (for help) was heard, so it must have been an abduction of some sort. People need to NEVER separate. Even when going into a restroom. Her remains were found only a mile away? Weird.

It's quite ablist to assume that this woman who had just completed a semester of college was so "extensively disabled" that she couldn't be left alone for a few minutes. Many disabled people who need help with some aspects of day to day living, are quite capable of being left alone for a few minutes (if not longer.)

Given her height & weight, & that she vanished SO quickly... if she was taken by a Sasquatch it would explain it. They are reportedly very fast, & kill by breaking the neck, & would be capable of carrying her off for that distance. It is interesting the "authorities" said both it was likely an abduction, but her autopsy didn't reveal 'foul play'- which is a euphemism for being a victim of a crime. But it would be interesting to know if there was evidence of being killed & eaten by something... they would have a difficult time in that area covering up a Sasquatch attack with the explanation that she was eaten by a bear. It was repeatedly phased in this narration of events that no one "had any idea what could have happened". Well, there's an idea. So very sad she suffered the car accident & all that went with it, & then lost her life in some way that no one can (or will) say for sure.

How did an "extensive search" occur in a, comparatively, barren desert area, including use of a helicopter, and sniffer dog, nobody spotted anything, despite her bright colored clothing, an abduction was extremely unlikely, so she was there somewhere. Was a grid pattern or concentric ring sectioned search used, at all, to eliminate where she wasn't ? Or just a we'll kinda sorta look around a little bit, go over the same ground, and miss covering part of it, disorganized type of thing? I don't think I am being harsh. Look what happened. Then the person was later found, 3 years later, less than a while away ? That fact, is saddest of all. It sounds like some serious medical issue happened, unfortunate, enough, but the "search"... enough said.
