Thanks for telling her story, Bryan. I have been there. It is very easy to get lost in the jungle, and you can't believe how hard it rains up there. Also, as you can tell the cliffs are incredibly steep. One wrong step is all it takes if you're near the edge. I'm sorry she has never been found. At this point I'm sure there's nothing left.

I know I would have been more than a little pissed off. That was a huge red flag waving. IDK what I would have done considering her car was stuck there, miles from anywhere. I probably would have taken her to town so she could figure out how to get her car out of my yard and get herself sorted out. I'm surmising of course.

Wishing everyone happiness, we really are so fragile in ways. What is confounding to me is how fragile the human mind is. My heart hurts for this woman who seemed lost even before she disappeared. I can't imagine my brain becoming my worst enemy, and I don't even know it. She is at peace finally, if there's any solice to be had in knowing that. Thank you for sharing this heartbreaking story with us. There are lessons to be learned in each one of these tragic tales, and I try to learn something from each one in honor of the life lost. 😢❤

This woman obviously was quite off track in some regards. The weird way she just drove her car in somebody's backyard and got it stuck there, how she took a stranger's car without asking, the amount of prescription drugs in her luggage anc so on... You actually don't need a serial killer to explain her vanishing, I'm afraid ...

Nothing wrong with law enforcement checking everything including the patio. There are cases where some were murdered by someone they just met so putting that to rest is good and they can focus on something else. A lot of people get lost in the woods and maybe that's just it or maybe it was foul play. I do hope she is found.

Great job covering this strange case - this one is strange. My first thought was that the Hawaiian islands are full of lava tubes, and I’ve heard of people falling into them with very little evidence of what happened (one such story was covered on the MrBallen KZread channel). I’m thinking she could have fallen into one accidentally. Stranger things have happened. I agree that we’ll likely never know after all these years, but I pray that she’s found, if just to give her friends and loved ones answers. BTW, I’m very interested in buying one of your calendars and can’t wait to see the beautiful pictures. If you still need more pics, let me know!

One of the many questions I have about this case is why didn't the person who originally reported her missing ever come forward? Why not help with the search? From what gwen and I could tell Melanie did an amazing job of leaving little to no paper trail of her life in California. Just so many questions in this case. Thank you again for watching🙏

So awesome of this lady to reach out to you in hopes of keeping this poor girl's story alive and so awesome of you to share it for her! This one is definitely an odd one. Surely she has to have family in the states looking for her? Almost makes you wonder if Melanie Summer wasn't a "new identity" she came up with after fleeing her abusive husband, it definitely sounds like it could be an alias to me. Which also makes me wonder if she could have a missing person case in California (if she was honest about where she was from) under her actual name.... Really enjoyed this one as there are so many oddities here to think on. Thanks again for another awesome video! P.S. You sound great by the way, hope you're feeling better!

I once had an elderly friend show up at my front door with a suitcase and many bags filled with prescription drugs, properly ordered by her doctor and dispensed. Sad and strange story. It would be easy to get lost in the jungles/forests of Kauai. I visited the island and did some hiking and some of it was pretty rugged. We had a Jeep but still found some of the roads very eerie and turned back to main roads. This case feels really creepy and suspicious to me, though. Melanie was obviously in a very distressed state. Bad experiences in two relationships and she now had gotten her car hopelessly stuck. She didn’t inform Bill she was leaving I suspect as she didn’t plan on returning. The medications might have been part of her plan. This case was particularly unsettling.

That's a red flag I would have thought because a) she could have been suicidal b) she could have been some sort of drugs mule or c) she might have been killed by someone who wanted to steal them. If they were prescribed meds, and she wasnt suicidal, surely she'd have only taken enough for a few days as she left everything else behind. A very sad mystery xx

This existence is but a passing vapor. the only thing that keeps me sane is knowing that Heaven awaits all of those who accept Jesus as Lord. This world is sick. i almost dont even want to live to see how bad it gets. Between ai takeover, George orwell 1984 slave state, Fema camps and complete societal collapse and death to fiat currency... a part of me is praying that God takes me out of this world soon. I have a mystery illness since getting double pneumonia right before covid, then getting covid a couple months later.. ive been suffering from a litany of symptoms. I cant help but thank our Father because his plan is to take me home where there is no more pain and rejection of friends and family anymore.. no more parents who abandon you.. no more debilitating illnesses . Just Peace and Love... Everything God... There's only one way to Heaven and thats by way of Christ Jesus. if you're not saved yet, i earnestly pray that You accept Our Abba. it will be the best decision you ever made!! There's many false representations of christ by people who profess to know Christ. The bible says wide is the way to destruction and narrow is the way that leads to life and few find it. Just know that Our God is so incredibly good i cant begin to describe. Alot of people pimp out christ for personal gain and or just dont operate by way of his spirit. There are true children of God out here, it took a long time for me to even find one before i was saved. Glory to God. I love you, Much respect to you. i will pray for you always

Melanie reminds me of another person a lot like her. She was one of those people who seem helpless and a victim, yet are amazingly adept at survivng by getting other people to take care of them and somehow attract trouble for their benefactors. Once you help them, they make free to halp themselves to your stuff..and make themselves ‘at home” When it is time for them to move on they can’t leave because they have nowehere to go, nobody to call. Their vehicle is broke down in your back yard….. There is an old saying ‘No good deed goes unpunished” i do wonder if Melanie just decided to walk away, literally, She had her back pack and her meds and could have hitchiked back to town, rent another car..and continue with her plans. maybe she thought she would come back later for her suitcase, or maybe not..

Happy New Year Brian. I wish you health and happy trails in the coming year. There are so many possibilities. I find the bag of pills along with the taking of the car to be disturbing. Was this a way to end her life? Or did she not take her meds, and that ended her life? It sounds like the weather alone would have been enough to endanger such a small person as Melanie was. Taking someone's vehicle indicates to me that she may have been running from someone and wanted to make sure it was extremely difficult to track where she was - no paper trail as there would be with a rental or self owned car. All in all, it's next to impossible to come to any conclusion. Melanie was more or less a stranger on Kauai, in a strange and difficult place. Without a body or a confession, there is little to point to.

They can be paranoid and or irrational. These ladies are incredibly common which is a shame. I think they are just trying to get lost so they can't be found and some don't survive.

these people were nice, I would have called to have it towed and would never let a stranger stay at my house. she sounded like someone with mental issues.

Sometimes people disappear themselves. Remember the prescription bottles . . .

Melanie sounds like she was the problem in her life, for whatever reason whether her life experiences drove her to be the way she was but her behaviour was really off

That serial killer was only charged with a parole violation and is related to Dept.of Land and Natural Resources' main man. It's an island where few murders are solved😢

You quite literally hit the nail on the head with that one! On 10/17/21 one of my neighbors disappeared. She was 56 yr old Jodielynn Taylor. She had only moved into our Apartment complex a few months before. She was divorced with grown kids. She used to go fishing early in the morning before sunrise just a couple miles away. Theres video of her buying Bait at the local grocery store on the morning (day) she disappeared. Her car was found at the local beach where they thought she was fishing. Three weeks later her body was found decomposed with a length of rope in the bushes nearby( according to her Daughter, about the rope). The body was in an advanced state, but that did not mean that there would be no clues( her hyoid bone being broken could tell them hanging was her cause of death). According to her daughter, nothing was around her neck. The rope, she said wasn't even close to the body! Beaches often have LOTS of rope mixed into the crap that washes up to the high tide line/ bushes. They closed the case, saying she unalived herself with the Rope. All that according to her angry daughter, who knows that someone must have done something to her Mom....additionally its VERY rare for Women to do that form of unaliving. The Police on Kauai have been described as crooked, lazy, & incompetent by many!

What kind of person hops in someone's car and just takes off. Even if it's was someone I was dating I would be totally pissed and consider that as insane behavior yet they kinda assumed the oh well, not a big deal stance. Something is way off with the story.

Very strange..its weird hearing you talk about a person with my name. Lol.. But this case is sad...I actually think all those pills were part of her "plan" to exit this world... And she wanted to do it in a beautiful place like Hawaii

Melanie only weighed 101 lbs. She would not survive long if she got lost, or if the temperatures dropped. Some of her unusual actions like "borrowing" a strangers car, made me think she might have had some psychological issues. Which may have been what some of the medication was for. As far as having so many pill bottles, I've known people who save perscriptions for years, every scrip they ever had and didn't finish. Or maybe she saved the empty bottles. When my ex died they found hundreds of empty pill bottles in bags behind his recliner.🙄

Hate to sound this blunt but this is experience speaking.... Nature will weed out anyone who doesn't have their senses about them and is in shape so fast it spins heads, Nature is designed to do that. It's a rude awakening for most
