The Diorama that Almost Broke Me... (W/ Waterfall Tutorial)
I'm finally back to finish this piece! This was only supposed to be a waterfall tutorial, but it turned into a whole project with an overcomplicated acrylic case, light fixture, and a painted mini. I take a long time to complete my pieces, but that's how I keep the enjoyment going :)
Feel free to leave any questions or thoughts in the comments below, see ya on flip side!

Holy F&*% how does this channel not have a million subscribers? The crafting alone - all the multidisciplinary tools and skills, the perfectionism, the un-afraid-ness of new crafting techniques - would make this excellent, but then the editing and videography is so entertaining and fun!

I just found this channel and was wondering the same damn thing... very well done videos with excellent presentation. Well f@#$...
One of the rare channels where there is no boring faffing around, instead crisp clear, easy to follow steps. Above all, highly professional presentation, vivid dose of humour, entertaining and perfectly fitting film tricks. A lot of thought and effort went into the filming. One of the best modelling channels I've ever seen.
This channel deserves a lot more attention. Your videography and modeling skills are top notch. If the fact that you casually designed, printed, and painted the stag is a tangential aside, then you know the rest is fantastic. Really great stuff. Glad I stumbled on this!

Thanks so much! I love making these projects and videos, more coming soon 😊
I'm a WW2 modeler. Tanks mostly but I have wanted to start putting them in diagrams of the European theater. These videos were incredible, and very helpful. Thanks 👍
Can't tell you how much I enjoyed this. Your sense of humor it fantastic, the editing is super fun, and the lessons learned tie it all together. Overcomplicate projects . . . That's my brand!! Glad i'm not alone. Keep'em coming!
Definitely worth the extra work! Love love love a custom display box 💜

thanks! I didn't realize how much that custom acrylic case would add until it saw it at the end. I'm glad I did it :)
I appreciate your story telling technique. Entertaining and upbeat.
Worth it? I'm in awe!🤯 The stag was a perfect finish. But with all that vertical, you could have added a flying hawk. Just kidding, but wow, incredible stuff.
These look so fun to make! I do resin art but more sculpture type not just flat stuff. I played around trying to make a waterfall with 1:1 resin and used holographic window film to give the back side of the waterfall that prism rainbow effect and found a fondant mold that looked like flowing water. I think it was some type of ribbon mold or something. Made a mold for the shape of the waterfall I wanted. Poured the resin on the silicone fondant mold and covered it with the holographic so the top is the back. Waited until it was almost cured (bendable but not sticky) and it worked great! I used my heat gun to warm up spots on top to secure it and pulled some apart and bent it to make it look like splashes off of the rocks. This acrylic sheet and gel looks much faster. Lol. Very cool project! Love it!
I started really appreciating my power tool collection about 2 mins into this video you’re much more dedicated than I ever have been with my crafting 😂

Yeah I do like to make my life difficult 😅. When I want to get something done, nothing can stop me from doing it (i.e. trying the most absurd ways until I get a passable result 😂)
One of the best crafting channels. Your work is so good! And your videography and editing are second to none.
Thank you for the white water, baking soda tip, I would not have thought of that. The piece looks amazing. 👍
Absolutely love your art... tutorial or not... you fricken CRUSHED it...
Wow! Gorgeous and serene. It makes me want to lay in the grass next to the waterfall.
From one Canuck to another very talented one .......... well done.
Just discovered your channel thanks to Lyla Mev (The Mini Witch). Very inspiring work, love it!
Awesome! Not only your diorama, but your editing skills! Well done and very entertaining!
Got recommended to me. Apart from the obvious crafting skills, the editing is amazing!
Not too friggin shabby indeed!! Amazing job!!
What works for cutting acrylic sheet like that is a dremel using the drill bit type cutting bit and the router attachment. Stick the sheet to a 2mm or so MDF board with spray mount first, though.
Cool edits, quality work and fun commentary!! Solid work 😎 thanks for the content! 😊
Just found your channel and I'm blown away. Looking forward to future video. Keep'em coming 👍.
Great work, congratulations for showing this marvel, greetings from Spain
I really enjoyed this - you seem to have a very wide array of skills.
I could watch you spinning that acrylic sheet for 10 minutes straight :D
The quality of the edit and filming is crazy. I come from different crafting area of KZread and the tips per minute of what I have learned is crazy. IPA for hot glue! Nice.
Holy crap, how am i just finding you?? Awesome work
Oh my god. You've got to be in the gaming or filming industry on how you sculpted that stag. Not to mention all the vfx. Superb really! New big fan right here :)
Wow, I have no idea how your channel came up in my feed but I’m glad it did. Can’t wait for your next upload. Thanks for sharing your amazing talent.
Great production value, storytelling, and final product. Thanks for a lovely watch!
Lyla the mini witch sent me over here. And im very glad she did! Keep up the good work!
Beautiful. A lot of steps, but the result is excellent. Nicely done
Nice work. The end result looks awesome! I would add an tree at the top to finish it off as the top looks a bit bare? The lamp idea does look good though 👍 Great job. Monique
This channel is recently becoming one of my favorites ! Love every aspect from the crafting tips to the great editing! Can't wait to see it grow to a huge audience

Oh gosh thanks for the kind words! Glad you enjoy it! :)
super happy to see how you make your waterfall, I have been struggling with which medium to use for my project and as you know, when you have so much time invested in the structure of a project, you don't want to mess it up with an ugly waterfall. Thanks for your advise and I like your spirit!
You got another subscriber to your channel. Love your tutorials. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Damn. This is at the same level as the heavy hitters in the model making space.
Exciting tips as your crafting gives has great ideas. “ Oops & mistakes” along the way is how we all learn.. fun is what everyone should be having while modeling/crafting.. outstanding case display by the way.

Holly guacamole.......goodness me, young lady. You've got magic hands
The result was definitely worth the effort Outstanding masterpiece.
Really snappy and entertaining Video style. Love it
That's seriously some incredible work! So many skills!
You can try to use Wires to trace the outline and use as a guide for grinding. or if you prefer, you can also heat it up to cut the shape.
That's a great looking lamp diorama. Whats your secret for keeping fingerprints off acrylic, i turn around and its covered in prints whenever I use it in any project.
@Geordiecrafts
Жыл бұрын
Thanks Knarb! And the secret is that I had a few scratches I needed to polish out at the end so it was freshly cleaned and polished during filming. After that I got fingerprints everywhere 😅
Absolutely amazing diorama! It all fits together so well and looks just stunning. Keep going, I can't imagine this channel not blowing up with this extreme quality of all aspects. Camera, editing, engaging flow, creative shots representing the process and of course the final product. But I have also one critique or more like suggestion. The stag looks quite out of place. It is too big in my opinion. Compared to the mountain and the trees, which have really thin trunk and skinny branches. They look like big trees. In context with the stag, they seem more like bushes, but bushes split into branches mostly right out of the ground. So the scale feels weird. Maybe smaller stag would sell the diorama much better.
You are so funny yet so crafty! First time watching you I had to subscribe to you! Thank you!
The editing always makes me smile. Great craft.
Really great work! For lazercutting- you could totally see if there is a makerspace near you that you could use instead of all that investment
I completely agree with Hack 'n Slash Crafts below! You really have the skills! I don't know why I haven't found your channel before today! After I watch Black Magic Craft and Tabletop Witchcraft and some others I always look for other awesome crafters like you! Well I hope my subscription and likes make your channel easier to find! Great video and great tutorial!
Lots of really fun transitions like from the screen to the printed model in your hand, super satisfying build!
Love it!! Great methods on that water. In retrospect, baking soda seems so obvious, but I never would have thought of it. Also, I have a tip to try if you haven't yet. Your results may vary, but I use gesso for my 3d print smoothing, and it makes it glossy smooth with relative ease. I had much better results than bond-o, and much less toxicity (especially on smaller prints). I rough sand, apply gesso and let it dry, followed by a quick medium to fine sand, then buff with a towel. However, it's highly probable that I didn't bond-o correctly, so maybe gesso isn't as good.
Glad to see you came back to this, I definitely will use the rock formation how to from the previous video and the tip on adding dyes!
Very good. Informative, Thank you. I would have added a tree at the top of the waterfall, but that's just me. Good job.
Your videos are great quality. Love your channel. I hope it grows like crazy. My thought about the acrylic/print joint is you could print a groove instead of the ledge. The depth of the groove would give you a margin for error in the cutting of the acrylic

Beautiful build! And that tricky case ended up looking incredible.
That water looks amazing. Love how your editing is improving leaps and bounds every video - awesome work!
First thing to hit my mind with cutting the acrylic was "Use a jigsaw, or even a bandsaw". And when you get a lasercutter, remember that a diode laser won't cut clear acrylic, the light just shines through :)
@Geordiecrafts
7 ай бұрын
I didn't have a jig saw or a bandsaw at the time (likely won't ever own a bandsaw haha). I actually decided against getting a laser cutter in favor of a cnc machine because it has a broader range of applications 😊
Outstanding work, very inspiring!!!
That is beautiful. I will have to apply these techniques when I begin my scale model train table. Thank you!
This channel is criminally undersubbed. Amazing.
This is one of the best waterfalls i've seen. Hat down.

Excellent work, Geordie! This is informative and entertaining; your editing skills are tight!

This was so good! I especially enjoyed the edit where you snatched the stl out of the screen. This must have taken a long time to put together so well done!
Kick ass as always! Loving the humor and silly sound effects in this one. More of that! Your efforts sure didn’t go to waste in this one, the acrylic looks amazing and I totally understand that you’ll never do that again without a laser cutter 😅 great work on the stag paint too, looks so good!❤

Thanks so much! It's scary to by myself a bit more on camera, but it feels more authentic so I'm glad I'm moving out of my comfort zone haha. And as much as I love doing those transitions, it's easy to miss that it was 9 hours of painting for that stag haha!

@@Geordiecrafts it's always scary to move out of your comfort zone, but I agree with you that it feels more authentic. And you should only do it if you feel comfortable and safe with it! Those transitions are amazing, and you do them so well too, especially the one where you grab the model out of the screen and then drop it on the table... very well done :) And I totally didn't notice it was so many hours in between, so kudos there too! ;P Even more kudos that you're showing mistakes and mentioning safety too
Your work is awesome. I'm a new subscriber just getting started in my own train layout and this is some great tips thanks for sharing
Wow what a cool idea! Well done on the dedication to nail the fit of that acrylic!
I was going to say that I'm amazed at the videography and editing on top of the quality and complexity of the build itself, but then I scrolled down and saw that every comment was exactly that. So I won't say anything...
The intro to this video was Oscar worthy! Of course, I'm kidding, but it was funny as f*@#. Love your channel and will check out your other modeling vids.
This came out sick dude!!!
Looks amazing... I could see that as a background setting for action figures but without the stag.. Great job👍

This video is just great. So many skills that you have shared with us. Thank you G
Wonderful work! I have new goals with UV resin and waterfalls now :D.
I am so surprised! You are on the same top level as for example Martina (Nerdforge) or Luke Towan. The only difference is you have just a few videos. Please, make some castle, or spooky house, or some cozy house, or anything!! Please!
If you use acetone to make the putty thinner you can spray it. And it’ll be less sanding.
Great video as always. I'm glad you persevered, it's amazing!
Amazing work! Been working up the courage to try resin pouring in my builds, you make it look effortless! :)
Beautiful work looks really realistic
Worth it for sure! Great job and thanks for sharing.
Hi, I just found your channel and am enjoying your work and processes; thanks for sharing. I won't take time to repeat all the well-deserved compliments made by others, but I will offer you a tip: If you use a black alcohol marker to color the bottom edge of the acrylic cover, the white line should disappear (test it on the back side). Beautiful work!
@Geordiecrafts
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I appreciate it :) I actually like the glowing white line, that was the whole reason I did it this way instead of sinking the acrylic into the base. It adds a nice rim of highlight I think. To each their own of course though! 😊
This video was super fun to watch! Just found this channel a few days ago, and it's quickly becoming a new favorite. The quality of the final product & the video are both excellent. Keep up the great work!
Fantastic work
Incredible! It takes a lot of courage to just decide you're going to 3D print a stag - you did it, and very successfully. I'm in awe... (Also, your video editing skills are outstanding.)
That was amazing. Thanks for sharing!
Great content, video editing, music and other skills.
Im not sure which one which one looks better. The art on the table, or the art in the chair 😂
Over-complicating things is what we do. This is the way, That said, my first thought would have been to make an acrylic top that covers the entire thing.
Looks amazing! Great editing work as well!
