The Differences Between Omaticaya Navi and Metkayina Races Explained

Ойын-сауық

The Na'vi are a race of sapient extraterrestrial humanoids who inhabit the lush jungle moon of Pandora. Humans are known to refer to them as "blues", "savages", "the locals", "hostiles", or "the natives". There about 15 Na'vi races in total and here in this video, we will focus only the two main races seen in Avatar 2 and explain the Differences between Omaticaya Navi and Metkayina Races.

I loved this. They didn't make the other clans radically different, instead just added a few subtle differences and changed the skin tone slightly, just like human races.

Navi are significantly more racially diverse than humans. Their bodies are literally built differently to adapt to their respective environments. Humans that lived near the water didn't develop webbed feet and hands.

@@jed52 Eh, I wouldn't say significantly more, just different. Humans seem to have much greater differences in leg to torso length ratios, facial structure, and skin tone compared to Na'vi. Their differences are just far more specialized, likely the result of being a much older species with much greater levels of isolation.

Not only that, the Metkayiba have larger rib cage, meaning they have bigger lungs, bigger chest not equal to bulky; the back widens by being in constant contraction and expansion of the muscles of the shoulder blades, breast and shoulders when doing dives and strokes. While the Omaticaya have longer fingers as well their feet and toes have become more like a second pair of hands, not only to grab on unstable ground, the mounts but also to have a better grip while walking on the branches, they also have longer tails for balance.

To me it’s also fascinating how their clothes are hairstyles differ from each other. While the Omaticayan people almost exclusively wear braided hair, the Metkayina also have a lot of open hairstyles. It’s probably because open hair is difficult to take care of in a jungle. You’d always get twigs and dirt in it and wouldn’t be able to wash it very well, but since the Metkayina literally wash their hair in the ocean every day, it must be doable.

However, when you look back at the scenes when they show planet Pandora from space, you don’t see any warmer conditions in the planet’s equator. So where would the desert be? I was surprised to read a comment here wanting a Navi based on African/Sahara type. I assumed it was obvious from the first movie the Navi race in Avatar is kind of inspired by the thin tall African Masai tribe and their dressing, and the tallest people in the world the Tutsi tribe of East Africa. I live in USA but I'm Nigerian /Yoruba woman and when I watch Avatar I think of those tall skinny East African tribes. (They look different from most of us in West Africa in their body type.) And this new water tribe make you think of Pacific Islander type like Samoan. But as an artistic person I really enjoy the movie for the cinematography, and the great job of creating fantasy world with CGI imagery. I like how this video explained how their body types is shaped by adaptation to their surroundings too -- I was thinking of that and comparing both tribes during the movie.

In the film, EARTH moves outward to distant planets in order to satisfy its resource hunger. In their search, EARTHlings arrive on Pandora, a biologically rich planet with a diverse and complex ecosystem. EARTH is a major part of Avatar, in fact there wouldn't even be a movie without EARTH being a factor. Since we are getting technical here, I was also referring to it mainly taking place on land. However, Purple-ish is seen on the Jungle-Savannah Navi...so their skintones dont always match the environment 1:1, there are more factors in play. Thats said, any shade drastically different from the blue color area (like orange, or yellow) would be too different of a variation. Whiter blue is possible since its still a shade of blue, same with darker shades of blue.

Interestingly, despite the prolemuris being hexapedal, it only has two upper arms which then split at the forearm. Each forearm has two digits. This could imply that the navi’s tetrapedal physiology resulted from two limbs of a similar four-armed species somehow fusing together over the course of evolution until eventually, instead of two forearms with two fingers each, there is only one forearm with four fingers. The prolemuris could be a descendant of these ancient primate analogues that went down a different evolutionary path and never had their arms fully fused together.

lovely video!!! i love biology and evolution so much! I was thinking what the other tribes will look like... i have some ideas feel free to read! feel free to add anything id love to hear your ideas! also sorry about spelling errors lol Snowy navi: a very pale blue (kinda grey looking) with darker grey stripes... or maybe instead of stripes they would have spots like snowy owls! depends where they live though.. if they lived in a snowy forest then yes. however if they lived in mountains and snowy plains then they would probably have stripes. i feel like they may either be fluffy (protection from the cold), or they may have a lot of chub on them to act as an insulator too (like whales!). they would have fluff coming out of their ears to protect them from getting snow in them. i do imagine them to be sharper if that makes sense, and bigger as they would need to rely on hearing mainly for hunting! their sense of smell may also be better. would also be cool if their hair texture was different, kinda like really thick fluffy fluf. i imagine their hunting style to perhaps be burying themselves into the snow and then jump out... or they would hunt similar to the omaticaya tribe. they also likely have great immunity to the cold. also! it would be cool if they had deer antlers! this could also be apart of how they choose a mate! their house may be a big igloo like thing! their main animal would be a big wolf like creature (but more alien). they of course would have HUGE horns, be three legged and very fast. unsure about what other creatures they would use... maybe a flying squirrel type thing (as all the tribes have a 'flying' creature of some sort.... what do yall think? NEXT is the sand navi: they are similar to the snowy ones in the sense of they are pale, only these guys would be more on the warm side blue if that makes sense. they would also have stripes, maybe kinda mimicking sand storms (so very random and swooshy if that makes sense).. okay finally my favorite part.... their tails would be like scorpions!!!!!! so they are barbed and have venom in them. however it can only stun something for a couple hours. they are also a lot longer and usually stay curled up. as for their skin! i imagine them to maybe have scales? and instead of warm blooded they are cold blooded (as many desert creatures are reptiles). they would also have that special eyelid that the metkayina tribe has to protect them from getting sand in their eyes. OooooOOOo another idea for their tail is that it is like a rattle snake!!!! their ears would also be very big (bigger than the snowy tribe too maybe), and they also have the fluff in their ears to protect them from sand. inspo is from a fennec fox! these guys may live in a big ol sand save like thing. it also would be cool if they drank with their skin (like that one lizzard ha) in order to optimize water! oooOOoo it would be cool if they live in a desert oasis! mmmmm...... unsure what their main animal would be... maybe like a scorpion with a coyte..? however. they do have pet sand cats (they are so cute omg) okay finaly we got the earth lads: a very muddy blue with maybe speckles to mimic dirt .. BECAUSE they live underground!!! and so.. they would have VERY poor eyesite... but very good claws for digging! they would probably have little to no tail (as they wouldnt really need it). but if they did it may be like a meerkat. they would also have either very little or very big ears, however, they have the best hearing and smelling of them all and so they act as their 'eyes'. would be cool if they also worked like an ant colony and so they would have a queen who is 'more in charge' . they would also be a lot smaller than the rest. OOOO they may be able to ecolocate (like bats) their main animal would be like a giant sand worm like thing, that can dig through anything (kinda like in dune ha)... or maybe a centipede bonus! deep sea tribe! so we got the metkayina tribe as the 'lagoon like navi'... however, if you go DEEPER you will find the deep sea navi! they are veryyyyy dark blue and have stripes. they have a little light on their head used to attract prey (like that one epic fish), they also have sharp teeth. these guys would also be rather blind if they were to go near the surface. they have VERY good nightvision, they only breathe underwater (gills)... and they have no legs (so mermaidsss!!!!). their tails are very powerful, and they have webbed hands like the metkayina tribe. they may also be able to use ecolocation their main animal may be a GIANT octopus or something like that and they too are connected with the whales that i forgot the name of DAM that was a lot of typing... thank yoy for reading this far but id love to hear what yall think!

If I could make my own avatar, I would choose the beautiful turquoise skin instead of the blue skin. Instead of having blue or turquoise eyes, I would have the yellow eyes that are so stunning on the original avatars. I’ve been fat all my life, so I think I’d rather have the slender body of the land avatars instead of the ocean ones. As beautiful as the ocean is, I hate getting wet all the time and it’s freezing in the water. I love the mountains and I love rainforests. So if I can make my own avatar, that’s what it would look like.

I have one specific Problem with the Way of swimming of the Metkayina. They move while swimming like Fish or Reptiles insteadt of Memmals. But since they're Na'vi they have to be Memmals and their Spine is made for a Wave like movement typical for Memmals. And even the Tolkun have this Memmal-typical movement, so why not the Metkayina? I mean they're so close, why shouldn't have the Metkayina adapted the "normal" Memmal style instead of the Reptile or Fish like?
