Samoa, American Samoa, Western Samoa, German Samoa, The Samoan Islands.... You've probably heard these terms used now again but can't quite figure out what the difference between them all is. Samoa and American Samoa are the same people, same culture, same language, but just different political entities. Political affiliation is the only main difference between Samoa and American Samoa. Unfortunately, Samoans have not had any real control over the political identities that were thrust upon them from history.

Actually, the official name of what used to be "Western Samoa" was changed by them to "The Independent State of Samoa." However, the UN and many people call it "Samoa." Further, geologically Swains is not a part of the Tokelau chain, which goes mostly east-west, and Swains is farther south, it is not part of any other chain. Originally it was occupied by Tokelauans, but Samoans subsequently took it from them. You also omit Rose Atoll, which is part of American Samoa. Geologically, however, it is not part of the Samoan volcanic hotspot chain, it is much older, as atolls are.

Upolu Samoa is the main island of Samoa and its a little more updated and upgraded than American Samoa. You will find people are different in many different ways. The Samoans in American Samoa rely heavily on welfare system while the Samoans from the other Samoa are independent and hard working people. You will also find more obese Samoans in American Samoa than Samoa. You will find that people in Samoa are more mixed with Samoan, English, German and Asian. In American Samoa you will find more full blooded Samoans. I enjoyed my visit and hopefully I can make it back soon.

You dont blame American Samoa for its political status .. U.S. goverment gave them option .Wether to choose Independent or Joint the Samoan as 1 nation. But instead they stayed with the U.S. as their territory.

He makes it out to be a very unfair deal, but leaves out that under this deal American Samoa was able to make it so that white people are not allowed to own land their and they are allowed to maintain their traditional system of governance, which is unconstitutional.

American Samoa has no independence and is unsupported at the same time. Has no energy independence and is reliant on American coal. Yuk America. Meanwhile, Western Samoa has hydroelectric and biomass and is almost energy independent. The difference between NZ leadership and US leadership. Also Samoa getsore support and more access to NZ than American Samoans get from US Samoa. Samoa also gets support from Australia. Feel sad for Hawaii too after the fires. $700 per family one off. Jobs gone, still have mortgage and no infruststructure. They will loose their homes, fathers or mothers will need to find work elsewhere. Or sell up. That's was the plan. And if it wasn't, it will be for other parts of Hawaii.😢

Wishing that Somoa joined united states 🇺🇸 as a territory and forget about the time zones problem. Nothing wouldn't stopping them from being close ties to New Zealand.

Samoa is a people not a political term. We are a people of the same flesh and blood, thus the term uso or uce, because it runs deeper than some political division. I can’t say that my siblings from the same parents are not Samoans because they were born on a different island.
