These new Detroit’s are a shadow of the old reliable 60 series. Best 3 motors from all 3 manufacturers, 3406b from cat, n14 Cummins, and 60 series Detroit. Although they aren’t as reliable as the 60 series. I have had the opportunity to drive an old two stroke 12v71 and that thing was awesome, it produced sounds of the heavens and pulled good to. But the 60 series is a damn good motor.

@@mintos2089 especially the 4-71 it could runaway at 10K RPM for 7 minutes before it dies. Cummings can only go 30 seconds before throwing a rod. Search "trying to blow up a 471 detroit"

Fools arguing about what one pulls and not the other--. It is the gear ratio of your DIFFERENTIAL that determines how much you can tow---. A 450 HP with 3.36 rear diff will out tow a 500HP with 2.46 diff gear ratio---.

Yup true however you gotta remember more horsepower means more work is done faster, so to me there perform the same.

Torque means a little more than horsepower and then the transmission and rear differential too. My brother is a mechanic at a Freightliner dealer and Western Star service shop. He loves working on Detroits. But also some engine manufactures measure teh specs differently. Some do it with the engine only, CAT I believe use to measure it from the tires not the engine. So if it was rated for 500 hp and 1850 ft/lbs of torque the engine itself would be producing more than that but is lower do to the loss between the engine and the tires.

Hello detroit diesel I have a 2009 cascadia dd15 and love it I can't stop telling Cummings owners how crap they're motors are can't even get to 700 without blowing a window in the block can you guys give my motor a breakdown and refresh to show how well they hold in short run traffic my truck has to idle a lot and run overweight loads all day and she just keeps on ticking it's hauled 101k pounds on it it's about to hit 700 k no problems in sight and would love to see the internals but I don't trust mechanics with my baby detroit for life

i am a jabroney what world you live in I have seen those junk piles in shops all day with blown head gaskets oil pumps that quit and damaged the motor regen issues if you're talking about sales yes they win since bad ass detroit diesel only makes big engines not tiny pick up truck junk if you have a Cummings and you come to la I will out pull you out turn you out everything you want in you're China made junk

humpty I'd bet my yearly salary my 475/550 CAT outpulls any Detroit. I don't care about sales or what you perceive to be a good motor. Detroit is garbage, most of the time like the garbage drivers that like them.

I Have a 2014 cascadia DD15 bough it with 305k now it has 940k and is running like Day one with same power oil change every 10 to 11k other than is Deletet love it...,

nothing like the sound of a DD16 prime mover if you want power for your trucks get a DD16 and place it under your hood.

I Have a DD15 980k never had a problem with the engine had it Delete at 600k people talk bad about engine if you change the oil every 30k what do you expect..,

I like the power but so many problems with a d e f. So many problems with all the sensors it's enough code broke a person.
