The Detransition Survey - Christina Buttons

Ойын-сауық

Christina Buttons is an investigative reporter dedicated to revealing the weak scientific foundations supporting gender ideology. In this video, she presents "The Detransition Survey," a report that explores the connection between autism and gender dysphoria. Christina explains how a significant number of young people with autism are being diagnosed at gender clinics. She discusses the impact of gender-affirming care and shares personal stories from individuals who regret their medical transitions after discovering they were misdiagnosed.

This topic needs to be published and autism charities should be contacted to make them realise the harms they are pushing on autistic people. At the moment most of them are actively pushing gender ideology.

This is HUGE! Thank you for this study and i hope we get more. I have been saying this for awhile based solely on anecdotal observation. So im happy to see hard data. In my opinion, autism, sexual trauma, and various disabilities can cause bodily dysphoria that may mimic gender dysphoria, causing ppl to mistakenly believe they are trans. I hope we can study more of these so that people suffering can stop being led astray by gender care professionals who make a ton of money off this industry.

Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder are (closely related) disabling conditions that are frequently co-morbid with autism. They cause a great deal of physical discomfort, particularly in teen and young adult women. Serious menstrual problems also are common in girls and young women with these disorders. The opportunity to leave these difficulties behind by "becoming male" is an attractive prospect.

@@ellyw7201 I actually have EDS and i totally agree! Chronic pain makes you hate your body, or feel like you are in the wrong body. I agree it also seems to cause or mimic mental health issues. I have bipolar and several autism traits. I also have a ton of sexual trauma. I have often thought I was trans, but as I've gotten older i understand it is just a myriad of things that resemble gender dysphoria. When a condition (in this case, gender dysphoria) is so easily mistaken for a multitude of other conditions, then any treatment for that condition requires extensive diagnostics. Yet adults and minors get affirmed within one day. That's just objectively wrong on a clinical level.

While you should always be critical about subjects or even this topic, you should also stop judging and marking the world as black and white, when you actually probably have no idea about the subject. Yes, this is a problem, and much to much people transition because of internalized homophobia, misogyny and unresolved trauma. And that sucks. Totally true. "Transition is never the answer". False. You are judging other people expériences and you are actually not in their body, nor mind. And don't start to yell at me. Just look at many "troubles" like autism, we only finally are in a society that stops treating that as a mental ilness... but for a long time, many people had many opinions on it. And always knowing it better than autistic people themselves. You're doing the same with trans issues. So clear example. Young kid who grew up in a familly where every single one familly member was just waiting so much for a girl being born in the familly, because there were already a few boys in that generation... but no girls. Parents themselves too btw. Dad absolutely wanted a girl, no other option in his mind. Didn't even want to look at boys names. Mother was a strong-opinionated, quite feminist woman. Could just as much walk around all feminine on high heels, dancing ballet and rock and roll, and would work as lumberjack. It's quite an equal familly, with definately no misoginy. Oh, and btw, aunts are openly lesbian, it's all okay. And the kids best friend also has two mums. Homosexuality has always been an open subject... but actually no one knows any thing about trans stuff. The kid can play with all the toys they want, wear all the clothes they want. Oh and by the way, she definately, to all the joy of the whole fucking familly was born a girl. There is still, with all psychologues nothing that has been found in the familly that could have pressured her into believing other wise. Homosexualety is okay. No weird familly history. No misogyny. But still, at two years old, this little girl refuses to wear dresses to "school" because "boys don't wear it, only girls and I'm not a girl". Parents try to explain otherwise, even explain sexuality stuff. "Oh but mine is just a late grower" "no it isn't" Parents end up accepting their daughter only likes boy stuff, but totally keep calling her a girl. But the kids keeps insisting. They are btw a wonderfull very happy, very energetic, inspiring, couragious and curious kid... and very happy. Until they are 8 years old, moving to another, more misogynic country and there this kid realizes that they just don't get allong with the boys here, and ends up only playing with the girls... and realises that in this country they just doesn't want to be a boy, because theses boys are asholes... and they just can't identify with them. So she'll try to be a girl then, because girls are greater. And mum likes girls more. So here end up with a insecure teenager, that hides themselves in to big a clothes (even before puberty) and when asked later how they feel about their body they answer "like a walking head, I don't connect with my body". As an young adult, they are just realizing they'll be single their whole life because they are so unconfortable in their body and society... until they start working with a therapist that doesn't know anything about trans issues... and comes out finally that this adult that is totally a tomboy feels like they are acting like they are a woman, and playing a role their whole life. And finally come to the conclusion they just feel like they are a man. And it's not a happy conclusion: being a man isn't a good thing in their mind, especially not in their familly. They don't remember anything about the years before moving to the other country. But they keep working with the therapist, doing now a bit of research about trans stuff... and end up transitionning. And now again we have a young man, 27 years old, energetic, curious, couragious, building his own house, having a blossoming carer... and basically the parents feel like they finally have the same person as before they moved, a fantastic kid that's good in their skin. And he transitionned 7 years ago, and just still feels every day more like himself. Nobody of his sisters understand why the heck he wanted to transition, being a boy is dumb, but everybody sees how he has changed in 7 years, going from a little mouse to a lion again. And yeah, I know what I'm talking about, because I'm that guy, and it's my life story. So I'm worried about trans pressure/cult, but just as much about transphobia. It's not black and white.

My daughter was diagnosed as Autistic at 13. She had been befriended by several kids who introduced her to the trans ideology. These kids were more accepting of my daughter, whereas she was essentially left out with the other girls that age. Now, I realize she was no longer able to mask socially. One girl had already (in 8th grade) changed her identity. At one point my daughter asked about “binding” her chest. That was a huge red flag and prompted me to devote extensive attention to educating myself and my daughter about this ideology. Fortunately, we were able to switch my daughter to homeschooling during the lockdown. I believe educating ourselves and switching to homeschool saved my daughter from going down this road. Today, she is 18 and has an excellent understanding of how harmful this ideology is to her peers. Thank you for your talk! Very informative and interesting.

I was horrified to find out that Seattle Children's Autism Center, where my son was diagnosed and who were useless for helping him (and many others I have found) after, has paired up with Seattle Children's Gender Clinic. They offer outdated therapies, drugs, and gender services. It wouldn't surprise me if they are encouraging their most "difficult" patients to try a new hyperfocus: gender. This is also the only place in our area where kids/youth can be formerly diagnosed. This is wrong on so many levels.

@snorgonofborkkad Fragile-X is a progressive genetic mutation of the X Chromosome, so it proves that progressive is not a good thing. It could be the leading genetic cause of Autism. While it seems obvious (Ms Buttons is not the first to have pointed this out) that there are a disproportionate number of children with ASD who (suddenly) identify as "trans", what seems to be an even more common feature among them is adolescence. And what I remember of adolescence is that it's murder. And confusing. Even letting adolescents decide what to make for dinner can be risky. With that, I don't wish to say that people with ASD are not more vulnerable, but that most - I believe - youngsters with GD are i some way delusional and need to be saved from their own convictions.

My son tells me the best thing I did for him was to warn him what to expect with puberty and to remind him whenever, however, whatever he was feeling - that it was normal. Parents take note- TELL YOUR KIDS: You’ll feel uncomfortable in your own skin. You’ll feel like you’re going crazy. You’ll be sad for no reason, sometimes for awhile, or angry or silly or happy or however you are. You’ll feel ugly sometimes or a lot of the time. You’ll feel like there are parts of you that you hate. You’ll have times when you won’t want things to change. You’ll go back and forth and change your mind. You’ll want things and your feelings will be strong, at times those feelings may be all consuming and it will be all you can think about. Whether its a ‘thing’ you want or thinking you’re in love, or an opinion you have - you will think you ‘know’ and you’ll think you understand and you’ll forget that it’s literally impossible - because your prefrontal cortex hasn’t finished developing. You’ll have an instinct to rebel, even at times you know you’re wrong. It’s a necessary part of growing up, so you can follow a path different from your parents. Watch it so you recognize it when it happens. Your body and brain is IN a state of transition; never think you don’t like who you are, because you are in a state of becoming- and you have no idea who you will be. Every adult you see has been through it - and survived. It’s going to suck, but you’ll be ok. --- I’m sure there’s probably more I could say. But people don’t tell their kids anything and worse they panic when their child comes home anxious or upset- it’s normal! And it’s ok to feel that way!

I reckon it's because it occurs in a variety of degrees of severity. Worked with an Aspy who was actually quite amusing to have around. He had no insight into his condition and worked in accounts - a very binary world. I learned that when his obsessiveness became dysfunctional I just had to be rude and tell him "ENOUGH" - he appeared quite non phased by this treatment (well I like to think I didn't hurt his feelings!) I am very low in trait Agreeableness and very high in trait Openness so we dovetailed in our obsession with exploring and collecting information about the world around us (I have been assured by a psychologist I am just very interested, not Aspi myself!). Where Autism and Aspergerger's overlap is a mystery to me, but I do know that my colleague's social awareness was pretty limited and I can imagine a lot of the world was unintelligible if not completely invisible to him.

I would add that trans activist organizations can be incredibly influential (I think threatening as well) to healthcare professionals and organizations. Look at how Mermaids influenced care at the Tavistock. They can literally change the culture and treatment approach, and often have done so. If you're not familiar, please, please read Hannah Barnes' excellent book, "Time to Think," a brilliant expose of the Tavistock Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS).

This is excellent, vital work. Congratulations to Christina Buttons and her team. I was saddened when she parted ways with the Daily Wire (I believe she was important to Matt Walsh's activism), but I'm thrilled that she and Michael Shellenberger's group found each other.

She seems so nervous bless her, which is probably coz of public speaking but also probably coz of the backlash shes worried and probably will get. Sucks how just gathering data and publishing it should make someone that nervous

As a parent of an autistic girl who wasn't diagnosed until her late teens, and who eventually decided she was trans based on online research she conducted about her symptoms, this makes perfect sense. I always felt there was something off about the decision to "trans" so many youth, but this study points to the fact that this is most likely simply a misdiagnosis from the psychiatric community, enabled by a large social media campaign from trans activists. As Buttons pointed out, you cannot give informed consent if you aren't told the actual facts of a treatment or if your medical professional purposefully misinforms you about possible diagnoses and treatments.

I wonder if females with autism aren’t diagnosed until adulthood because females are generally better at mimicking socially acceptable/normal behaviour despite it feeling inauthentic for the individual. Might have to have a long think about this.

Convenient, can't get attention from dysphoria or when it goes wrong? Then move on to another trendy diagnosis. Adults, if your teenager is hopscotching from diagnoses, please investigate what is causing the need to be different. Over psychological intervention in children lead to over diagnosis, and an over abundance of kids leaning into disability points. It is tragic for some kids are deeply affected by autism when other kids, who are high functioning, and would be better served by the old fashioned 'eccentric' label are making a mockery of the truly deeply affected.

I’m a transwomam and after 8 years of transition I’m now seeking and autism assessment. No one ever brought up autism when I started transitioning I don’t feel like I was pushed to transition but no one ever tried to talk me out of it or look into other causes of my discomfort. I’m mad and upset with the medical community for not even looking into ASD for me. I will say I don’t regret transitioning and prefer to be seen and live as a woman but I’m also not 100% certain that I would have still transitioned knowing I had autism and now I have no choice I’m medicalized for life.
