The Departed was actually a remake of the movie "Infernal Affairs", Leo's character was played by Tony Leung - the actor who played WenWu in Shang Chi

@@k3n12ock Actually Scorsese himself was respectful towards the original and even named the film when he won the award for it. The problem was Harvey Weinstein and his company who bought the international distribution rights and deliberately gave it a shitting release just so most people didn't know about it so they could capitalise on the remake. The worst part is the film doesn't even have a 'based on the screenplay" credit.

The plot in this movie is one of a kind. Keeps you intrigued the whole time. So great

Only Martin Scorsese could get away with killing every A-list actor in Hollywood in one film 🎥. And people loved it.

Minor clarification. The Massachusetts State House (designed by Charles Bulfinch) is gilded with 23 karat gold (pure gold of high purity); the copper was added by Paul revere to make it watertight. because there was leakage in the original shingled dome.

28:20 That's a flaw in the movie that annoys me. DiCaprio having his phone on ringer like that is something he's not going to do especially when he was trying to be quiet in the theatre just minutes before. He was way too cautious.

Great reaction. By the way, the building with the gold dome is the state capitol. It was Matt Damon's character's dream to advance to the governor's office.

Such a great movie, everything is superb, from the storytelling to the acting. Everyone is fantastic in their roles, but I especially loved Jack Nicholson, imo it’s one of his best performances.

Love Martin Sheen who is a great actor and became a better activist. Starred in Apocalypse Now and is dad to Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen.

Another crime movie that’s really good is Heat, it stars Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.

Anyone can say any of these actors were their favorites, and each person would be correct because every actor was great. My favorite was DiCaprio. He captured the image of a man on the edge knowing he could be killed any second.

React to the 1989 Puppet Master

Departed was one of those movies that have an interesting development and production story. The DKM Celtic punk track is probably the least notable aspect. The producers slapped aspects of Infernal Affairs into Departed when they couldn't get an ending. The movie was supposed to be the biography of New England Irish mafia boss, Whitey Bulger, but Bulger's trial was extended for years due to Bulger being a part time FBI informant, Bulger killing any witness he couldn't buy, legal motions and continuances. Everything from the drug bust with Frank Costello (aka: Whitey Bulger) dying and thereafter was made up, since Bulger was still alive and on trial. Frank Costello name, btw, was taken from the NYC Irish/Italian mafia boss of the early 20th century.
