Yitzhak Navon is one of Israel’s newest railway stations, and one of the world’s deepest at 80 meters below ground. Sometimes called Hauma, this station has multiple levels, a sleek modern design, vaulted glass ceilings, and mosaics on the walls. With over 5,500 square meters of space underground, it can also serve as a refuge for 5,000 people in an emergency situation. I was in Israel last September (2022) and rode the train quite a few times from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. What impressed me the most, particularly the first time, was how amazingly steep and long the escalators are. The first experience blew me away. After I'd reach the top of one I was surprised to see yet another waiting ahead. Very impressive.

I live like two minutes walking from my house to this station that means i have used it a lot. One of the most terrifying things about this station is that there are 3 escelators lead down to the station and when you look down you get the chills from how high they are.

Its primary purpose is a bomb shelter. You can see the blast doors between the first and second escalator levels going down. Hope you can run fast when the sirens go off.

@@IgorProkhorov111 because jerusalem is placed on a mountain, if they had built the station above the ground it couldve create problems with the train because of the down/up hill of the mountain

Building this 🚆 Train system was the most intelligent piece of engineering that Israel has built it's wonderful to ride this train into the Old City..It brings you write up to Central Square 🚌 Bus station where we like to see the big clock on the building and MAX likes his piano 🎹 there..We don't travel at Tel Aviv Bus station sorry 😔 to say it's not safe and the Malls are very fewer Now.. Yitzhak Navon is the name of the train station. It's named after one of Israel's much loved presidents who grew up in Jerusalem.

I am struck by how clean everything is. The man playing a grand piano in the station. No homeless people, no fear, Wow. Compare this to the stressful, weird dump that is Penn Station in New York. Unbelievable.

Penn St, being a piece of dump, you're correct, still is famous rather for excellent musicians like Lucky Chops playig there :) This is not yet the story over here, but who knows.

Amazing,we know about the light rail,but the subway is an additional travel mode,great.
I used this station and was impressed by its sheer size and design. The journey to Tel Aviv takes about 1.5 hours and I was even more impressed when leaving Jerusalem the tunnels covered more or less half the distance to Tel Aviv!

The train ride from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv is 35 minutes. Maybe by car it's 1.5 hours.

If the passenger train is coming in from sea level Tel Aviv, 66 km away, it's quite a climb to Jerusalem's elevation of 754 meters (more or less). So, a station 80 m. below the surface in Jerusalem is not only impressive, it is a necessary accommodation to engineering and geographical reality. Congratulations to Israel!

It is a real engineering marvel. As resident of Jerusalem, I travel intercity on the train. Really great. Not big compared to other stations around the world, but very efficient. One can travel from Jerusalem to Ben Gurion Airport in 23 minutes. Stunning views along the way combined with great stretches of underground tunnels. Took many years to build, but is well worth the wait.
