To be honest, The Deep confuses me. Is he a good guy who screws up, is he a selfish butt kisser, or what. He just doesn't come aff a malicious the way Homelander and the rest of Voughts top brass does. More often than not he comes off as a guy who has no idea what's going on, and a fascination with blow jobs (which is disturbing, but manageable). This scene comes off as our of place, because he lives sea life and doesn't crave respect the way Homelander does.

They were both pretty much children with super powers. The Deep was usually ineffective so he appeared more harmless. However, A-Train started to mature and realized that he became what he hated. The Deep instead regressed and fully embraced his irresponsibility and childishness.

Lots of People don’t get how stress and shock works, you will experience moments of spacing out because your mind is focused on what you just did, eventually, your brain would temporarily lose the ability to track time. Plus the increased blood flow makes you feel like you spent 10 minutes in that room when in reality you’ve been in there for 40 minutes or an hour. Edit: nevermind

This actually makes a lot of sense because it can be seen just a few minutes earlier, they are cuddling on the bed out of water and you don't do that for less than 30 seconds. If they wanted to cuddle without a whole ton of unnecessary stress, they would be cuddling in the water. The interpretation that the actual murder taking about an hour or maybe even longer, makes complete sense and looked intentional.

Here’s the thing, Deep never once ever tries to atone or redeem himself in anyway. But there was an insinuation that his relationship with (apparently conscious) sea creatures was at least an attempt at genuine-ness, and rooted in sympathizing for their collective abuse at the hands of humanity. It was entirely possible that since childhood, he’s had something of a hatred for humanity with how they treat sea creatures, which would make his conduct slightly more understandable, even if fucked up.

Many people will diminish Ambrosius as just "an Octopus ", but this scene is the PERFECT representation of a toxic relationship where the other is a DEPENDENT of their spouse. Not "dependent on" emotionally, but a physical dependent. Ambrosius chose to be with Kevin, despite being restrained to a tank, and Kevin CHOSE to be with her. Their relationship is no different than if she were a human in a respirator who depends on the care of their lover. She had no where to go, even if she wanted to, and yet she DESIRED to stay. The way that The Deep treated Ambrosius, through her persistent patience and sincere desire to support him to her fullest despite being dependent on him, is nothing short of despicable.

Never in my life did I anticipate getting all choked up over a talking CG octopus. And now here I am 😭

Imagine arguing with your partner and only you can hear and understand her. Also I love the Karma Deep gets, every bad thing that happens to him is what he does to himself.

I see Ambrosius as the last good part of Deep that he had left. After she dies, the next scene is Deep saying to homelander: "I will kill whoever you want just say the word" or something along those lines

Crazy how realistic and relatable they made this murder. An octopus.. Absolutely gruesome and chilling lmao, wow.

Wild how everything the octopus said was true...and proven quite soundly later.

Ambrosius was an elegant and classy woman. Dare I say, she was dignified. Too good for The Deep. She deserved better and will be missed.

@@whoami4352 it isn’t but it represents how far gone he is for the sake of pleasing Homelander. I mean he GENUINELY loves sea animals and the only time he’s caused harm to them is through his own incompetence or being forced to but this time he did it out of pure rage to one he truly loved which I feel is reflective of A-train killing his own gf and then slowly beginning his redemption arc whereas Deep had some minor redemption or trying to be a better person to now this as the series begins to reach its climax

The funny thing about this scene is knowing that tilda swinton was voicing over the octopus and doing these dramatic dying sounds makes it way more funnier!

Literally “I think very highly of you, I didn’t realize you think so low of me” but way more darker and sadder and more despairing. Poor octo 🥺

Fun fact: most species of Octopus can hold their breath outside of water for about 30 minutes to an hour …..meaning that Ambrosius almost definitely spent well over half an hour locked in that closest writhing in agony as she slowly suffocated. And deep could’ve helped her at any point during that period.

This scene was weird to me cause when deep crushes the tank ambrosia started to suffocate, but she was chilling in bed with the deep breathing just fine earlier in the episode

Never thought I would feel sad for a CGI octopus. I hope Deep gets to know "Kessler" sometime soon.

First time he's ended a sea creatures life deliberately and intentionally. I mean, he's taken out a dolphin, whale, lobster, ate an octopus etc. But this? Was ego and anger. Good stuff.

I didn't need to hear Tilda Swinton's death rattles today or any day, but now, in the span of 15 hours, I've heard it thrice.

I'm sure the broken glass pieces of her tank harmed her too.

I did a quick read on how long an octopus can survive outside of water, cuz man I really wish Ambrosia was faking her death just to escape.

Do you not care about octopuses in a general sense? Like, could you watch one of those mukbang KZreadrs eat a live octopus and remain emotionless? Genuine question here - I understand and second your main point. It was just interesting to me that your statement implied that under other circumstances we wouldn't/shouldn't feel pity for an octopus.

Octopuses are mollusks, and the last common ancestor between the two species lived millions and millions of years ago. I'm really curious about your comment. Do you believe that just because *you* don't care about octopuses, no one else on the planet should? Maybe most people don't care about individual octopuses, but they're a fascinating species that we have only just barely begun to understand. "Who cares?" is a bit reductive - I suspect you already knew there are smart and influential people who care about the octopus, so maybe your comment should read "They're just fish. I don't care." Edit: Ah, yes. Alright, diving into your comment history makes this a bit clearer. Your parents were obviously killed by an octopus judging by the numerous "It's just a phucking fish" replies you've left on other comments.
