The Death of LucasArts Adventure Games | Grim Fandango Retrospective
Ойындар
Adventure games were once one of the most popular video game genres, and LucasArts was (and still is) considered the king of adventure game developers. Now, however, adventure games are much more niche and rarely seen outside of indie titles. Their last adventure game was Grim Fandango, directed by Tim Schafer, and is considered their finest work. Today, we'll explore Grim Fandango and why it led to the death of LucasArts adventure games. #GrimFandango #LucasArts #TimSchafer

I'm glad someone is mentioning how genuine and caring Manny and Glottis' friendship is.

There's also something about Plana's performance that makes Manny sound likable regardless If he's being sarcastic or not
I know it might seem tedious and it isn't introduced in an obvious way, but I love the dialogue transcript feature in this game. Not only did it help with language learning, but it also gave you an option to review dialogue that was said earlier and/or that you skipped over.

Great game. I love Tims work. Day of the Tentacle is still my favourite adventure game! Yes that was LA. Tho I found out that there IS an unwinable situation in Grim Fandango. But that is unintended! Just put the scythe back where you trapped the waiter and you don´t have your scythe later on! @17:03 That bug was always there even in the original.
Great video about one of the greatest games of all time.
Dude. This is freaking awesome. Also because of this video, I now bought Grim Fandango

Enjoy it! It's certainly an experience.
I totally agree with you! The story and originality of the setting are what holds up the best. Gameplay does feel dated and holds back the experience.

It's a shame the gameplay is so antiquated, because I know it will prevent some people from experiencing the story and setting. Maybe this is a game that's better to watch a full walkthrough of rather than play? I still love it regardless.
Man that worker bee at 17:17 heard that break bell go off lol I first played Grim Fandango a couple months back and fell In love with the game, as of now I'm on my second playthrough but also doing a walkthrough as well!
Awww man, great video, you deserve more subscribers.
Cool videos my man, you have a new sub.
I’m not usually into requests like this but this is good
Indiana jones and the fate of atlantis is the best for me. They should remaster it for PS and XBOX as the story is amazing and the gameplay is wonderful indeed👍🏻
Nice video man 👍 Grim Fandango is a classic

Agreed!
I tried to play this game in the 90s, when it was released. But I was too young to gasp the beatuy and storyline. Maybe that's why abondend it. 20 years later I can enjoy it much more. I enjoy it so much to explore the world, the aesthetics and the music. The characters feel so alive and the only thing which is truly furstrating sometimes are the puzzles. But otherwise, I can recommend it 100%
What's your favorite LucasArts adventure game, or if you haven't played any, what's your favorite LucasArts game period?

I remember having a lot of fun with Shadows of the Empire's opening level, but never really progressed beyond that. Really need to pick that one up again.
The fucking car direction puzzle.

13:38 This! 😆
I seriously think the flowers could be taken to the other side if they had a ticket and were taken on the train. Because we see a ticket still drawn to the flowers of a sprouted good guy. Meaning he should still be on the train. My favorite line in this game is *to weak...to grind.*
Shift key makes him run
Tim Schafer and that crew from Lucasarts are some of the best game developers on the planet.
And Grim Fandango is the reason Space Quest 6 never was released! Even tho Monkey Island went on...
I was just about to give you a like and subscription then 30:35 happened :(
Tank Controls are perfect for Adventure games, they're a little slower and move at a relaxed pace and that type of control scheme works.

James is the man!
I tried to play this more recently, and went in blind. Gave up without ever leaving the parking garage. I've concluded that, for me, these kinds of games always sound more fun than they ever actually are, and I shouldn't be lured by "beloved classic" labels. They're from an era where 90% of the difficulty is from just not knowing what to do and wandering around aimlessly for a frustratingly long time.

I felt the same way, but my love for the art style and Tony Plana (who I saw from Ugly Betty) made me keep going and used online guides just to hear more of the voice cast and see more art.

Yeah so dull and pointless and such dumb puzzles. I wouldn't blame anyone from quitting the game at this point, which I bet a lot of kids did back in the day.
