Earl Simmons (December 18, 1970 - April 9, 2021), known by his stage name DMX ("Dark Man X"), was an American rapper and actor. He began rapping in the early 1990s and released his debut album It's Dark and Hell Is Hot in 1998, to both critical acclaim and commercial success, selling 251,000 copies within its first week of release. DMX released his best-selling album, ... And Then There Was X, in 1999, which included the hit single "Party Up (Up in Here)". His 2003 singles "Where the Hood At?" and "X Gon' Give It to Ya" were also commercially successful. He was the first artist to debut an album at No. 1 five times in a row on the Billboard 200 charts. Overall, DMX sold over 74 million records worldwide.
On April 2, 2021, at approximately 11:00 pm, Simmons was rushed to White Plains Hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition following a heart attack at his home possibly resulting from a drug overdose. The next day, his attorney Murray Richman confirmed Simmons was on life support. That same night, Simmons suffered cerebral hypoxia (oxygen deprivation to his brain) as paramedics attempted to resuscitate him for 30 minutes. Simmons' former manager, Nakia Walker, said he was in a "vegetative state" with "lung and brain failure and no current brain activity". His manager, Steve Rifkind, stated Simmons was comatose and that he was set to undergo tests to determine his brain's functionality and his family will "determine what's best from there".
On the morning of April 9, 2021, Simmons lost functionality in multiple essential organs, reportedly his liver, kidneys, and lungs, and was pronounced dead shortly after at age 50. It was revealed on July 8 by the Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office that Simmons' official cause of death was a cocaine-induced heart attack.
DMX's funeral ("DMX's Homegoing Celebration") took place in Brooklyn at the Christian Cultural Center on April 25, 2021. It was livestreamed on the BET Network and its KZread channel. It lasted around five hours to a limited capacity of 2,000 people. DMX's casket was in the color red and featured the word "FAITH" in large printing.
DMX is buried at Oakland Cemetery in Yonkers New York.

I can only imagine the joy on DMX face and in his heart the moment he left this earth and stood before Father God our Creator. I can picture DMX hugging God and feeling the infinite love of God surge through him, removing any and all pain he endured in his life. To know that DMX will be experiencing that type of love for all eternity makes me smile. 🥰

This was a hard one… he was a lyrical genius and to know some of his raps were actually his prayers. He fought demons all these years. He was a special guy that didn’t get enough flowers while he was alive. Great video Scott and RIP DMX.

I didn't listen to a lot of rap and hip hop. But I did listen to DMX. So I was deeply saddened when I heard of his passing. Still hard to believe that he's gone. His headstone is beautiful. I'm 48 and he was way too young. I clicked on this video the moment it popped up. Forever rest in peace DMX. Gone way too soon. And thank you as always Scott. Your time, dedication and hard work are second to none. Peace ✌️ out ❤.

We have to make sure people know that he was introduced to this drug by a horrible and irresponsible adult at 14….I work as a substance abuse nurse…the stories I hear are terrible. How can anyone do that to a kid. And he struggled with that all of his life. I couldn’t stop crying when I found out about this. Beautiful tribute as usual Scott. I wanted to click on this as soon as I saw it…but I was at work. I’m watching now that I’m settled in at home. Bless you.

I know he had his struggles, but how he kept his faith in God and family, always made me feel like I was that much closer to him. I was lucky enough to see him at his peak during the Hard Knock Life tour back in 99 and I will take that memory to my grave. We are heading back to NYC in the next few months and will definitely be making a stop to his grave. Thank you SO MUCH for this video!! ❤️❤️. ✖️ BAAAAABY!!! #lldmx #dmxforever

Being that I am a huge mental health advocate when he shared his mental health struggles/addictions, and encouraged other’s to seek help and not be ashamed of having any mental health disorders I gave him 🙌 for putting his pride down to share his struggles. Adding…I do a lot of JFK, Boston and White Plaines FA ✈️ trips…White Plaines is known to be where the wealthy East Coast people live. Another, GREAT vlog!!! 🙌👍🙌

Hi Scott 🙋🏽 Good Evening to you. The first time I heard of DMX l was At my son's house. And he was playing his music. After that I became a fan of DMX. His struggle was really real. But with addiction it's hard. Take it from me ‼️ l was fortunate to be in a position to get away from the crowd l was hanging out with. Once I get rid of them and turned back to the LORD I got clean . And I've been clean for 15 years now. DMX WAS doing so good this last time. I WAS confident he WAS going to make it this time. But God knows best. Rest in Eternal Peace DMX ❤✝️ 🛐 ☮️💟💜🙏🏾💯.

Even when I don’t know the people you discuss, I appreciate so much the fact that their loved ones could watch your mini-documentaries and feel proud and appreciative of how you portrayed their loved one - especially when the person was misunderstood or made some bad decisions in life. Scott, did you know that DMX was shooting a movie when he died and was almost finished. They were close to the end of filming and DMX only had a few scenes left. The movie was called Doggmen not to be confused with the movie The Dogman. When director Antonio Simmons announced that he would be using CGI to finish DMX's last few scenes l would occasionally check for a release date but still today there is no release date. I don't know if DMX's estate shut this project down, if the cost of using CGI was too much or what happened because Antonio was adament about releasing this movie after DMX died. A legion of rappers have come over the past two decades, many born in poverty. The have come, each with a candle in hand, to light their way to fame and fortune. They have placed themselves for all the world to see, and have received tumultuous applause, money beyond imagination. But to many, the money was a poisonous snake in the form of gun bullets, white powder, crystals, a tube, a rolled bank note, or a syringe. Money has brought many face to face with their mortality - many have fallen. And only a handful Survive. RIP 😢

Hi Scott, I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing this for "DMX" Earl Simmons. He died way too soon. He was such a great rapper and actor. My husband loved his music he had every CD. He would constantly play his music in the and sing along with him. He knew every song by hard and constantly watched his favorite movie, "Romeo Must Die". When the news came that DMX passed away from crack, My husband, said wow,and said he was so disappointed of how he died. 7 months later a week after my husband's birthday ,he was found dead. Hiding the fact that he was hanging out with a junkie whore who got him in to doing crack. He was found dead in a motel room. Exactly 6 months later the pathologist called me with the toxicology report. He died of crack laced with Fentanyl. 58 yrs old.

I love that they put that scripture on his grave because it's the beginning of his song "Lord Give Me a Sign" right before the part he spoke about. Rest in Peace we all miss you ❤

He was so naturally Talented with rapping. He truly struggled with his upbringing. He had a strong spiritual influence but battles with drugs overrode that. I remember he went to a very isolated area thinking it would work. Rip my brother. Thanks Scott.

Loving this video Scott. I remember borrowing his first CD of my friend when he was getting out there. Little did we know his life will be cut short. We never see footage like this on news or TV. It's all thanks to you and your hard efforts. You are awesome
