The DayLight Rescues Pangolin in Grand Bassa, Liberia

The DayLight has rescued a pangolin in Grand Bassa County, west-central Liberia, the second such effort in less than a month.
A farmer voluntarily turned over the animal after we told him that it was illegal to hunt or kill it.
James Harding Giahyue, our managing editor, then threw it back into the forest, where he had picked up the animal a while before we encountered him on the route to Gheegbarhn.
Liberia has four of the eight species of pangolin worldwide, which have been declared endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and the Convention on the Trade of Endangered Species (CITES).
Locally called ants bear, the scally mammals are killed for their meat and scales, a key commodity in Asia.
Two weeks ago, our deputy director for administration and programs, rescued another pangolin from a hunter in Bokomu District, Gbarpolu County.
