I used to listen to this skating at night. Floating through the darkness with the stars above. The moonlight reflecting off the lake. I almost reached nirvana

In conclusion, the reason why The Fragile is my favorite major studio album release, is because I connected so much with it. I still love just about everything else that Trent has done, though.

Couldn't agree more. The Fragile and Hesitation Marks are my two favorite albums he's done. Everything else is collectively great to me, but nothing can beat those two. Hesitation was the first album I got, Fragile was the first I connected with.

I remember in the late 90s waiting for The Fragile to come out. The NIN website had images from it, and a clip from this song on repeat.

That website was really really good. It was ahead of it’s time really … in fact better than that It was such a build up till the album coming out, and they had updated tour footage to watch … Trent shared stems … it was just amazing. They stopped maintaining it , and then post 2000s everyone switched from making their own websites to using Facebook and Twitter etc … It was a little moment of time that was really special. The end of the old world of the internet

One of Trent' s best semi-instrumental songs. Only saying 'semi-instrumental' because he sings obviously. With that said, I find this song inspires me like no other. Cheers!

"There is a place that still remains. It eats the fear, it eats the pain." screamed in the background is probably the best part of this entire song. He didn't use that effect again on the vocals until Year Zero.

(continuing from last post) I had bought TDS as my first NIN album, and didn't really connect with it that much. Later on, as my first love and I were going through hell with each other, I found The Fragile, and the rest is history. For me, I connected COMPLETELY with The Fragile, and didn't want to put it down for a second. That's the one song that represented every emotion that I felt for that girl, and it was like Trent was saying everything out of my mouth. It was perfect.

Didn't know that Al was behind some of Broken/Fixed. That would explain alot, haha. Even though a lot of the agression also came from Trent trying to brake away from TVT Records, and fighting that battle. I still haven't watched the Broken film, and I've heard it's one of the sickest, most horrible films ever made: more reason for me to watch it! But...to be let down by The Fragile. I don't know, man. Believe it or not, it was The Fragile that made me fall in love with NIN.

The single shouldn't cost that much, I don't remember how much I paid for it, but, I don't remember it being too costly. I'd say around $15, maybe. But I doubt it'd be even that much. And yeah, haha, it's weird that you're between the posts like that :P, I noticed a mistake in one of my posts: "That's the one song" should have been "That's the one *album*." But, like I said, that's the one album I connect the most with. Awesome that it inspired you to write a novel, I'm a writer too.

I highly and humbly disagree. Sure, Broken/Fixed and The Downward Spiral were both agressive and intelligent but they just don't touch the level of emotion and personal being that was put into The Fragile.

  • @CountAbel

Such an old post, but I have to reply either way: I agree with you. However I think all of Trent's earlier albums are extremely emotional and personal. The Downward Spiral is a very tough album, because the emotional content there is so brutal and often times hard to swallow. On The Fragile, I find Trent less armored, and more honest about the pain he's feeling, making the album much more relatable.

@@CountAbel even older now, but still want to add my thoughts. The Fragile just has so many nooks and crannies, alternate versions, extras, none of it really feeling non-related to the album. All fits a story. And it's still happening today, for instance Deviations 1. 1 indicating there are even more nooks and crannies from an album 20+ years ago, and still just as exciting. I don't know if I'd be nearly as excited hearing about new unreleased extras from TDS.

I hate to do this qualitative bullshit, but this is probably better than every song on that double LP . I'm no expert, I tend to prefer their remixed work, but this seems like a different take. They didn't need to bring in Rick rubin, Aphex Twin, or Dave Navarro for this one. This wouldve been a great closer.
