The Day the Dollar Died
Remembering August 15th, 1971, the day #Nixon officially closed the #gold window, killing all that remained of honest money. The gold #dollar died and the fiat era was born.
The Schiff Gold promotion ends Friday Aug. 20th.
Note: This video was originally posted on the night of August 15th, but due to a slight error we needed to take it down, and we were not able to re-upload it until after midnight.

I am 71 so I remember that Sunday night quite well. One thing almost everyone seems to miss is the geopolitical aspect of the 8/15/71 decision. The severing from gold led to the massive inflation in the early 70s. Nixon’s wage and price controls did little if anything. Fast forward to July 1974 when Kissinger & William Simon, Secretaries of State and Treasury respectively, went to Saudi Arabia and made the Saudi Kings “an offer they couldn’t refuse.” Either price your (OPEC) oil in US Dollars ONLY, and reinvest the proceeds into US Treasuries, or we will bring “ American style democracy” (i.e. invade) and seize the oil fields. That was the stick… the carrot was we will keep these sorry ass Saudi, Kuwaiti, et al, kings and princes in power indefinitely. Kind of Mafia protection racket for us an insurance policy for the Saudis against Islamic extremism (i.e. bin Laden). Fast forward up to August 1990… Saddam invades Kuwait and is threatening Saudi Arabia as well. So the Saudis file an “insurance claim” and the US Military makes good on the 1974 Kissinger deal and destroys the Iraqi army within a few days. Problem was we overstayed our welcome in Saudi Arabia. Fast forward up now to September 11, 2001 where the main justification for the attack, espoused by bin Laden, were “infidel” troops in the holy land. He paid some perfunctory lip service to the Palestinians an Iraqi sanctions but our troops occupying their holy land was primary the motivator for the 19 fanatics strapping themselves in a plane and a fiery Kamakasi attack. If there was no severing of the gold standard in 1971 no Kissinger/Simon protection deal; no Gulf War I; no 9/11; means no War on terror; no thousands of people killed; and no wasted $5 Trillion dollars.

I was just a baby in August of 71, probably just starting to walk and I don't remember it. But I remember the middle and latter part of the 70s and watched our family's decline. My dad was college educated and a union man. As the 70s went on, we got poorer and poorer. Eventually in the late 70s my mother and most of my friends' mothers went to work, that is those whose mothers didn't divorce their fathers. This is why early gen-x is so screwed up. We remember what we lost.
I'm forever grateful I listened to you on the Joe Rogan podcast. I've learned so much from you since then, Peter. You are like a father to me. To think that I was this close 🤏 to skip that episode 😅

All the rules of the past are upside down yet every time I think to myself “ this next event will be the catalyst that pops the balloon 🎈’ it never seems to happen? Nobody knows how this will end but Peter’s theory makes the most sense and I think this will only end badly.
Geez, I had no idea that it was THIS bad! I will never forgive Mr Nixon for what he did. He interrupted _Bonanza_ for petes sake!
I bet they don't teach this in history or economics class.
Hilarious how they don’t teach this in public school
The major difference is economy and Federal Govt didn't (permanently) collapse in 69 like it did in 08. In 2008 the consequences of war and offshoring brought the US economy and Federal and State Govts to it's knees and since then neither has been able to even attempt to get back on it's feet!

Peter, I followed you to PR and bought a place in Palmas in April. In just 4 months, the 5 gallon bucket of Behr paint that we chose has had TWO price increases. Initially, it was $194, then $208 now $227. Assuming real consumer prices are up just 10%, by being in gold I’ve lost ~20% of my purchasing power. I saw inflation coming, I made my bet, I was right with my forecast but I’m losing my bet. How much longer til these “markets” pay me?!?!?? I’m pissed.
